The next day, Jack and Alex was in Mariana’s office.

Mariana looked up at the both of them in shock who would have thought Jack and Alex would be together it looks like the impossible just happened.

" What brings the both of you to my office? ”

“Mariana, Emilio D’amore is in Lusaka ” Jack said.

“And so? ”

“What do you mean and so? Mariana you know what will happen, have you forgotten your so called father arranged your marriage last time and his here to finally claim you as his. For fucks sake Mariana don’t tell me you forgot? ”

" Oh I totally forgot about him ”

" Mariana be serious ”

“I am being serious Jack”

“So I you going to marry him”

" Not on my watch ” Alex replied before Mariana could.

" I got a plan ” Jack said getting everyone’s attention ” What if you look for someone who can pretend to be your boyfriend? ”

" Jack cmon this is not a movie and do you think it will work? For Christ sake best friend get back to reality ”

" Boss I think Jack is right if you don’t want to marry the guy then you need to look for someone who will play the role of your boyfriend, it won’t hurt to try ”

" So who do you think will be the perfect candidate to play the role? ”

“Me” Jack said making both Alex and Mariana roll their eyes at him.

" Cmon Jack, Edward knows you are my best friend he won’t believe us”

“What about me? ” Alex asked

" No I won’t allow you to be my best friend’s boyfriend”

" Jack we are only pretending it’s not like he is truly my boyfriend ”

“I can look for someone else to play the role, just give me a minute”

" Jack why look for someone else when Alex is right here, what’s wrong with him? ”

“Everything and I won’t let him be your boyfriend and-”

“And nothing Jack. Alex will be my boyfriend and that’s final”

" If you say so” Jack said and walked out of the room.

" I wonder what Jack has against you? ”

“I don’t know either”

" I think you guys should find a day to talk things out ”

" I guess we will ”

“Let me look for Jack and talk things out and if you guys want this plan of ours to work you both need to work together” Alex nodded and Mariana left the office.

Mariana found Jack in his office, she walked towards him and sat on his laps, putting her hands around his neck and her head on his shoulder.

" Why are you usually upset these days? You have totally become a different person ever since Alex came. Do you hate him that much? ”

" Am only doing it for you ”

“For me? ” Mariana looked up at Jack confused.

“Yes”

" So why are you doing all this for, what reason? ”

" To protect you”

" From what exactly or should I say from who? Don’t tell me it’s Alex because I won’t believe you”

" That is the problem Mariana you won’t believe me. What if I told you Alex is not the man you think he is ”

“How is he”

" What if I told you Alex has been lying to your face from the beginning. He is heartless, bitter, merciless, cold hearted, someone you would not want to be close to” Jack said with so much hatred in his voice. Anyone could see how Jack hated Alex, but why?

" But he is not ” Mariana said innocently and scared at the same time.

" You don’t know that”

" Jack he is only pretending to be my boyfriend nothing else ”

" What if you fall in love with him? ”

“That will never happen I promise you”

" That is something you can’t promise you know that it will ”

" Jack stop talking like that you know it will never happen”

" If you say so” Jack said looking away from Mariana. She removed her hands from his neck and cupped his cheeks in her hands.. Mariana smashed her lips on Jack. It was only a quick and small kiss, Mariana didn’t want it to get far. Mariana pulled away and met Jack’s gaze on her and she chuckled.

" What’s up with that look? ”

" Nothing we’ll it is just funny you kissed me who would have thought that it will happen ” Jack said with a small chuckle.

" Cmon Jack stop being dramatic, it’s not the first time we are kissing ”

" Yes but you have been ignoring me ever since Alex hit me last time ”

" Jack please, am sorry if I made you feel bad but I think I don’t want to be friends with benefits anymore ” Mariana said making Jack laugh.

“Who said we are friends with benefits? ”

" Well no one said that but what else would you describe best friends making out ”

" Okay fine yes you are right, so does that mean it’s the end of our make outs? ”

" I guess, yes”

“Wow thank God it did. It was surely gross making out with my best friend”

" Get lost Jack, let’s get out of here and check on Alex”
