chapter four
11th century Mystic Falls
"come on, our brothers are fighting again" Rebekah says, running off, and the twins following close behind. two of their brothers, Niklaus and Elijah, were sword fighting.
"oh, look, our sister's have arrived to watch my fast-approaching victory" Elijah said and Niklaus pointed his sword at his brother.
Niklaus smirks, "on the contrary, Elijah," he tries to hit is brother but he blocks it and they continue to fight. minutes later Niklaus cuts his brothers belt off and their siblings laugh, but their father gets angry.
Ester puts a hand on her husbands shoulder, "relax, Mikael. Niklaus means well"
"that is precisely my problem" he says walking up to his children. their faces fall has he takes Elijah's sword.
"so. why don't you teach me that trick, young warrior?" he asks and tried to hit Niklaus but he blocks it.
Niklaus backs away from his father, frightened, "father, we were just having fun"
"we fight for our survival, and you find time for fun? i wanna have fun! teach me! come on" Mikael was now yelling and a crowd started to form.
"father it was nothing"
Mikael attacks Niklaus and knocks his sword out of his hands. he trips Niklaus and he falls to the floor and Mikael points his sword right near Niklaus' neck. Aleksandra holds her breath.
"you are foolish and impulsive, my boy. what, no more laughter?" the tip of the sword touches Niklaus' neck and his shakes in fear.
Ester steps up, "you've made your point, Mikael"
Mikael draws the sword into the dirt right beside Niklaus' head, "some days, it's a miracle you're still alive... boy"
Alex trembles at the memory of her father. Klaus made sure that most of them were taken away in 1488 when he forced her to live with the Petrova's. but after her transition, they still come back once a certain person or event is brought up like her father. ever since Rebekah told her that Elena was wanting to wake up Mikael, she had been having memories of him flood back.
"Alek, were you even listening to me?" Rebekah asked.
Alex shook her head and sighed, "I apologize, Bex. I was just remembering something" Rebekah nodded, knowing what she meant, and turned on the radio. the door soon opened revealing Elena.
"hey, what's up?" Rebekah asked cheerfully putting glasses of champagne on the table
"you invited me over. to talk" Elena said and Rebekah smirked.
"alright girls. have at it" she said and a group of girls came in wearing dresses, "okay, now, twirl please" Alex looked at them smiling and then turned to Elena.
"you compelled your own private runway show?" she asked confused.
"we need homecoming dresses. so, what do you think? pick two" Rebekah said pointing towards the girl.
"i'm not here to help you two shop. i'm here to talk about why you don't want me to wake up Mikael" Elena said.
Alex vamp sped to one of the girls and showed her fangs, her eyes glowing a bright red, instead of the dull hazel one's she normally held, "pick two, Elena" she snarled.
Elena gasped, "the red for Rebekah and the gold for you" she said pointing towards the ones next to Alex.
"there. that wasn't so hard, was it?" Alex tuned to the compelled girls, "go away. remember nothing"
Rebekah picked up a glass of champagne and walked towards Elena, "you do not threaten us. you will learn what we allow you to learn. is that clear?" Elena nodded and Rebekah walked away.
later, Alex had heard that Rebekah had told Elena about how they became vampires and what happened to their family. that Alex's twin, Henrik, had died so their parents thought of a way for them to become immortal. the five eldest siblings became vampire's, but the ancestors rejected the magic for Alex, stating that she was too dangerous for it, and they put her under a spell to keep her asleep for a century at a time. and while her siblings ran about the world as vampires, Alex slept in a coffin that was kept safe by the witches.
Rebekah had left by now, and it was just Alex and Elena.
"we're done with you, it's time to go" Alex said walking towards the door but Elena just stood still, "I said leave, Elena! I don't know what you're up to but Rebekah and I are no longer playing along" she yelled.
Elena stepped towards her, "im just looking for one good reason why we shouldn't wake Mikael"
Alex glared at the doppelganger, "we've given you a thousand! he was a ruthless man! but alas, you'll wake him anyways. I know you want him to help you kill my brother, im not stupid"
"it's no secret that I want Klaus dead. he has a hold over Stefan's life. and over mine. don't you care about that?"
"you may have been my first friend here, but i will not kill my brother because I want to join the 'Save Elena Squad'. i came back here for Stefan and Damon, to check up on them, and I came back for my family. do what you need. wake Mikael at your own peril. but make no mistake, if you come after my siblings, i will rip you apart to the point no one would be able to tell your identity. now leave"
just like that, the frightened Elena left without a word.

that night, Alex was talking to Tyler on the phone. Tyler was telling her about his break up with Caroline, that she left him because of Alex.
she laughed at his story, "I've only been here a couple weeks and my coming home is already ruining relationships"
"she'll get over it soon" he shrugged. Alex was going to speak, but stopped, as she heard a crash from downstairs.
"i'll call you back Ty" she hung up and walked downstairs. she turned to see Rebekah on the ground crying and Elena standing in front of her, "what did you do?" Alex glared at the doppelgänger. she ran to her sister and hugged her.
"i told her the truth. Klaus killed you mother. not Mikael" Alex's heart sunk at Elena's words. her brother wouldn't do that, he wouldn't kill their mother. he loved her more than anything in the world.
as it all sunk in Alex got angry, "you're lying! he wouldn't do that!" she yelled, holding her only blood related sister.
Elena walked towards the Mikaelsons, "he killed her, Alex! Klaus was the one who killed her" Alex felt tears fall down her face and wiped them away.
"go" she whispered knowing Elena could hear her, but she still stood there, "I said go!" Alex screamed. her eyes flashed a bright red once again and she pushed her hand out, causing all the lightbulbs to shatter.
Elena ran out, and Alex and Rebekah spent the rest of the night crying. knowing that they had been betrayed by their brother once again.
