Eric looked at me and Lord Gerberga and nodded.
âVery well. You can leave the rest to us.â
âOnce Iâve cleared the mist, Iâll head to the Ringain embassy.â
The embassy was likely the place that housed the core that created the hole in the divine protection.
âShould I go too?â
âIt will be troublesome in many ways if you enter the embassy, Eric.â
As it was a state of emergency, if it was really necessary, he should not hesitate to go.
However, I felt that I could manage without him. And so it was best that he didnât go in.
âWell, Iâll call you if I need help.â
So saying, I ran in the direction of the remaining mist. And Grulf followed after me.
Right now, there was hardly anyone in the palace.
Perhaps they had all locked themselves up in their rooms in order to escape the vampires.
The only people I met on the way were wolf beastkin.
They were knights, directly employed by Eric as a countermeasure against the vampires.
One of them ran alongside me and asked,
âMr. Locke. Is there anything we can do to help you!â
âIâm fine, thank you. Just wait for the kingâs orders.â
âUnderstood! Is it still a state of emergency?â
âYes.â
âUnderstood! Weâll continue to have everyone in the palace stay in their rooms.â
âThank you.â
And then the knight ran off.
Without the divine protection, it was easy for vampires to slip into the palace.
So it was comforting to have the beastkin wolves here, as they were immune to Charm and could not become thralls.
However, it was different with ordinary people.
And so it would be best to have the humans stay in their rooms.
I didnât encounter anyone other than beastkin knights as I made my way through the palace.
And then I reached an area where there was still some mist remaining.
âDo it.â
âCock-a-doodle-doooo!!â
The godly voice rang, and the mist vanished.
And then three Vampire Lords appeared.
On the floor, there was the same kind of magic circle that had been at the feet of the True Ancestor.
âBa-bastard!â
âYour True Ancestor is already dead. You should give up.â
âLies. He is immortal and indestructible!â
âNot even the gods are immortal or indestructible. You are much too arrogant for mere bats!â
And so I cut down the three Lords with my Devil King sword.
And though they tried to escape by transforming, Lord Gerberga dealt with them easily.
After the three had turned into ash, I cut the magic circle on the ground with my sword.
âAll right, onto the next one.â
âGruff!â
âCluck!â
I took Grulf and Lord Gerberga and continued to run. There were three other places with mist.
After running for some time, we arrived at the next mist spot.
The process was the same. I had Lord Gerberga crow, and then defeated the Lords.
And then I cut and destroyed the magic circle.
After repeating this three times, I cleared five places, including the place with the True Ancestor, of mist.n/o/vel/b//in dot c//om
âNow there should be no more mist within the royal palace.â
âCluck-cluck.â
Lord Gerberga agreed with satisfaction. Apparently, he could also sense if there was any mist in the area.
When I looked up to the sky, I saw that Kathe and the others were still fighting a brutal battle.
But the number of Evil Dragons was falling steadily.
âI wonderâ¦what happened to the fallen Evil Dragons?â
The Evil Dragons flying above the city were especially large for dragons.
And so if they fell down after being killed, they might cause a lot of damage.
As I worried about such things, I saw that another Evil Dragon was defeated.
Dorgoâs claws and fangs had torn into its flesh.
And then without a momentâs delay, Kathe had unleashed a violent wind breath.
The wind breath of the Wind Dragon King had incredible power. Even from the ground, I could see far away clouds being blown away.
I had seen Katheâs wind breath several times before. But this one was much more powerful.
She was up in the sky, where there was nothing that could be destroyed. And her allies were royal dragons. She did not have to hold back out of fear of hurting them.
âSo thatâs what she is really capable of. Incredible.â
If Kathe did her worst with her wind breath in the center of the royal capital, she would probably destroy at least one fifth of the buildings.
And after being hit by such a breath, the dead Evil Dragons were blown far away, and fell outside of the city.
ââ¦So Kathe is even thinking about what happens after they are defeated.â
I was very grateful for that.
And now I had to do what I set out to do.
While I had rid the palace of mist, the Ringain Embassy still had mist inside.
And so I started to run towards the Ringain Embassy.
It was a very large building that stood close to the palace.
Its walls were tall and strong, and the gates thick.
This was a foreign country within the Mendilibar kingdom.
While I was running towards the palace gate, in the direction of the embassy,
âLocke. Can you hear me? How are things going? Where are you?â
Goran started to talk.
âI cleared the palace of mist, just as I said I would. Iâm running towards the gate right now.â
âYouâre a fast one, Locke.â
âBut more importantly, did something happen? Is there a problem?â
âThatâs not it. Things are going well here too. And so Iâll be sending you some support.â
âThank you⦠But will you have enough people over there?â
I had originally meant to suppress the embassy with just Lord Gerberga and Grulf.
Of course, it wouldnât hurt to have some extra people, but sure Eric and the others needed help the most.
There was a lot that Eric and Goran needed to do to recover the cityâs functions and protect the people.
My job was easier, as I just had to kill some enemies.
âDonât worry. Thanks to the mist being cleared, the beastkin wolf guards are able to move again, so we have enough people.â
âIf you think soâ¦â
âMake good use of them. You should be able to meet them at the gate. Iâm counting on you.â
âI know. Thank you.â
After running a little farther, I saw the gate. And there, Shia and Serulis were waiting.
