The Vampire Hunterâs Request
Serulis tried to explain after rolling into the room.
âN-no. Thatâs not what this is.â
âWhat is it then?â
âUmâ¦uhhâ¦â
ââ¦â
I stared at her.
Serulis lowered her head.
âIâm sorry.â
âThat was not very polite of you.â
âYes. Iâm sorry.â
Serulis apologized earnestly. That was a good thing.
âYou should apologize to Shia as well.â
âIâm very sorry.â
She said and bowed.
âOh, no. But you must not tell anyone else, understand?â
âYes. Iâm very sorry.â
And she seemed to mean it.
âIn any case, you should come inside too, Luchila. And you can stay here, Serulis.â
âReally? Even after eavesdropping?â
âItâs fine. I want to introduce you two to Shia.â
Serulis looked a little nervous.
Luchila said nothing but walked inside with Gerberga.
I sat them both down in chairs.
âThis is Shia. She is a B Ranking Adventurer who is a Warrior and Scout. She is also a beastkin vampire hunter.â
âI am Shia!â
âIn fact, she helped me kill a Vampire Lord recently.â
I said. Serulis muttered, âOh.â
She was impressed.
âCluck.â
Gerberga clucked as if to say hello. Luchila nodded.
âAnd this is Serulis. A pure Warrior and F Rank Adventurer.â
âIâm Serulis. Iâm Mister Lockeâs apprentice.â
Serulis introduced herself as my apprentice out of nowhere.
I didnât remember ever agreeing to such a thing.
âSo you are his apprentice.â
Shia said believingly. This was annoying.
ââ¦Sheâs not my apprentice. Serulis is Goranâs daughter.â
âLord Mortonâ¦â
Shia looked surprised.
It was probably because she looked rather delicate compared to the rough Goran.
âAnd this is the demon, Luchila. And the one he is carrying is the God Fowl Lord Gerberga.â
âGod Fowlâ¦â
âThe God Fowl that you were just saying the vampires were searching for.â
âOhâ¦â
Shia was at a loss for words.
The chicken that she thought they were going to have to search for was right in front of her.
It was no wonder she was surprised.
âI witnessed the God Fowlâs powers a short while ago. It turned an Arch Vampire into dust while it was transforming with just a cry.â
âSo then the legend is true.â
Then Shia stood up and bowed before Gerberga.
âLord God Fowl. It is an honor to meet you.â
âCluck-cluck!â
Gerberga clucked loudly.
He exuded a magisterial aura.
I asked Shia,
âNow that the Gow Fowl is under our protection, does that mean we just have to go out and kill the Vampire High Lords?â
âYes, that is correct.â
âDo you know the place?â
âI do know the areaâ¦â
âArea? How accurately?â
âIâve grasped that they are somewhere among the mountains that are a days journey to the north of the capital.â
Upon hearing this, I asked Serulis,
âSerulis. It would be helpful if we had a map. Can I borrow one?â
âWait a moment. I will go and get one.â
Serulis rushed out of the room.
She quickly returned.
âI brought a map from my room.â
âThank you. This will help.â
âDonât mention it!â
The map that Serulis brought was quite detailed.
It was clearly an incredibly expensive item.
âShia, whatâs the general area on this map?â
âSomewhere in this zone.â
Shia indicated a very wide area.
It would take a long time to find them.
âIt would be nice if you could have narrowed it down a little.â
âBut, it was incredibly difficult for me to get this information.â
According to Shia, there were too many vampires in the area for her to get close.
âSo Miss Shia, Mister Locke and I are going off to fight High Lords and Lords. How exciting.â
âNo, Iâm not taking you, Serulis.â
âWhat?â
Serulis looked like she had been stunned.
Vampire hunting was Shiaâs job.
She had to go hunting as part of the rules of her tribe.
Even if I didnât go, she would probably go alone. Even if it killed her.
On the other hand, Serulis was different.
And there was no way that I could take Goranâs daughter to such a dangerous place.
However, I felt like she would secretly follow us if I just left her here.
And so I decided to assign her a role.
âBecause I need you to protect Lord Gerberga.â
âGerbie?â
âCall him Lord Gerberga!â
Luchila scolded without delay.
âWell, it is not as if we can take the God Fowl, which the enemy is after, right into their base?â
âThat may be, butâ¦â
âThey will be waiting for this opportunity where we are separated from the God Fowl. Itâs possible that they will attack.â
âButâ¦â
âWeâre within the royal capital. I doubt any Lord class vampires will attack⦠But I would still feel better if a brilliant Adventurer was guarding the place.â
Serulis perked up at the words âbrilliant Adventurer.â
âIf thatâs the caseâ¦I suppose I have no choice.â
âThank you.â
Now that it was settled,
âIâm home!â
Goranâs voice boomed in the house. Apparently, he was home.
âWe will tell Goran as well and ask for his help.â
âLord Morton?â
Shia asked in a somewhat nervous voice.
