A Changed Milka
After looking a little closer, I saw that it was Milka.
Serulis had probably run back to her home in order to get some new clothes.
âThi-this is embarrassing.â
Milka said awkwardly.
They were likely Serulisâs old clothes.
It was cute and quite appropriate for the rich daughter of Lord Morton.
There were frills and accessories.
Her hair had also been brushed and cleaned.
Serulis must have done it for her as they bathed.
That was why Serulis had been so eager to clean the place.
âHehe.â
Serulis stood next to Milka with the smuggest expression.
She had seen my surprise at this transformation.
âYou did this?â
I asked. And Serulis said proudly,
âWhat do you think? Doesnât it suit her?â
âThese pretty clothes donât suit me at all!â
âThatâs not true. It looks very cute.â
âBu-but. There is no way that it does. I-Iâm going to go and change!â
Milka turned around and left.
âMilka, wait.â
I called after her, and she stopped.
âI-Iâm sorry. But I canât clean in these clothes, can I?â
I think she thought I was going to be upset.
âMilka. I think it looks very nice on you. It is very cute.â
âReally? N-no. You donât need to flatter me. I know that it looks horrible on me.â
âNo. Why would I lie? It does look good. Are these your old clothes, Serulis?â
âYes. I decided to give her my old clothes.â
âThank you, Serulis. That would be a great help.â
âOh-oh. Itâs nothing, you know!â
Serulis said, a little embarrassed.
âShia, Luchila. What do you think?â
âItâs very nice. Yes, yes. It is very cute.â
Shia said as she circled Milka several times.
âYes. Itâs cute. Itâs like dressing up a pack horse, as they say.â
Luchila didnât realize it, but this wasnât exactly a compliment.
âRe-really?â
But Milka looked happy as she blushed. And so I didnât bother explaining it to her.
She was doing that a lot.
She started petting Grulfâs head after he came close.
âGrulf. Grulf.â
âGrr?â
Grulf looked confused as she scratched his fur.
Then he looked towards me for help.
âCluck!â
Gerberga flew down and landed on Grulfâs back.
âLord Gerberga is very cute as well.ân/ô/vel/b//in dot c//om
Milkaâs attention moved to Gerberga, who was now subject to her petting.
âCluck!â
âGrr.â
Gerberga had come down to help Grulf, who was at a loss over what to do.
He was a kind chicken.
After that, I had Serulis and Milka registered at the door in the library.
When that was finished, Milka said excitedly,
âIâm going to go and clean now!â
âWhy donât you start tomorrow?â
âBut...â
âYou were put in such nice clothes. You should relax and enjoy it.â
âDo you think so?â
âYes!â
Serulis said as she patted Milka on the head.
After that, Serulis, Shia, Luchila and I went to the drawing room.
I didnât call Gerberga, but he came anyway.
âMister Locke. What is it?â
âHmm. Eric asked me to search for the noblemen who were backing Kabino.â
âThat is quite the request.â
And so I explained everything that Eric had told me to Serulis.
As we talked, Gerberga perched on my lap.
âThat will be very dangerous.â
âYou are waiting for Kabinoâs confession for now?â
âThey also need to inspect all of the evidence confiscated from his mansion.â
âWill the district manager keep you informed of everything?â
Shia said. Serulis looked at me very seriously.
Of course, I just needed to show the necklace that Eric had given me.
However, I should only use it when it was necessary. And so I was hesitant to use it from the beginning.
Besides, I wasnât really worried about acquiring information about the investigation.
âI did tell Eric to protect the district manager, and prevent others from interfering with his work.â
âHmm. Hmm.â
Serulis listened carefully.
âEric should do everything that he can to protect the evidence. I even told him that Kabino might be assassinated if he is not careful.â
âI see. I do think that that could happen.â
âBut how will he ensure it?â
âWill he assign more bodyguards?â
âI donât think he would want to attract too much attention. Yes...â
I thought about it.
âPerhaps he will move the evidence and Kabino to the palace and make that the headquarters for the investigation.â
âEven if it is done in the palace, who will be investigating?â
âHis guards?â
âI donât know. Itâs all up to Eric.â
And I knew that Eric would choose someone that was trustworthy.
âItâs a serious matter and also very urgent. That being said, we cannot act recklessly either.â
âAny wrong moves will make them cautious.â
âI just want to paint a target on all of the questionable nobles.â
Then Shia blurted,
âIt is only Kabino now?â
âWhat do you mean?â
âKabino was gathering sacrifices, wasnât he? And his mansion was stocking weapons.â
âYes.â
âIf there are great noblemen backing him, I think there should be other people at the bottom like Kabino, who are doing the same thing.â
âI suppose so.â
Shia stood up from her chair.
âIâm going to go and see if there are any quests for missing persons.â
âIâll go with you!â
Serulis said as she jumped off of her chair.
