When everyone came over to the table where I sat, I put the papers on the table and turned it to face them. Vincent took up the papers and scanned through them. His eyes widen in shock, as he realizes what I had earlier.
"What is it?" Brian asked.
"It looks like the man who owns this place knows about the sharkgator living here." Vincent replied.
Mr. Raglan walked up to the front of the group, his eyebrows furrowed in confusion. "What do you mean?"
"Look," Vincent said, holding the papers out in front of him. "He's the reason the alligator looks like that."
"Yeah, he used the male sperm of a shark to fertilized the female alligator's eggs when it was out of the body. In the water, the sperm and ova shed simultaneously to fertilize the egg." I put in. "I don't know how he got a shark's sperm and I don't even want to know."
"Why would he do something like that?" Anna asked.
"Because he's a sick man." Tamika responded, wrapping her arms around her body.
"Wait. So isn't the mother alligator and the brothers and sisters around here then?" Kate asked.
I shrugged. "For some reason, I think they are dead. The sharkgator is the only one that is left."
"So, he knew the sharkgator was here and yet he accepts people here." Patrice said in horror. "Why would he do something like that?"
Everyone fell in silence as we thought about the answer. However, I had a feeling why he did it and I think everyone else was thinking the same thing.
"It's his way of feeding the sharkgator." Brian said, breaking the silence and mirror my thoughts.
"Feeding it?" Patrice shrieked. "That thing is not a pet! Why would he want to feed it?!"
Vincent put the papers back on the table. "To repeat what Tamika said earlier, he's a sick man."
"And I suppose all those meats in the freezer is for the sharkgator?" Patrice asked.
I nodded my head. "Yes."
Patrice brought her hands to her temples and rubbed it. "This is all too much. I have to sit down." She turned away from the group and walked over to the couch and sat down.
Brian ran a hand through his hair. He turned away as well and began to pace the floor. Everyone else turned away as well and continued to explore the cabin. Vincent was the only one left behind.
"What are we going to do now, Vincent?" I asked.
Vincent sighed and ran his hands through his blonde hair. "I don't know, but I sure hope we get out of this soon."
"I hope so too."
Vincent look up at me. "You look exhausted. Am sure all of us are. It's best if we get some sleep here and think of a plan in the morning." He suggested.
I nodded. "You're right." We've all had a long and tiring day, walking for hours and trying to escape the sharkgator. A nice shower and sleep would do me good.
We all took turns in using the one bathroom that was in the cabin. After my shower, I went into the living room to bunk on one of the two couches that occupied the room. Patrice, Anna and Tamika shared the one bed in the bedroom. Kaitlyn was on the couch with me, while Lance took the smaller one to himself. Mr. Raglan, Vincent and Brian spread blankets on the floor.
Even though it was around 7:30pm, we all fell asleep instantly due to our exhaustion.
------
"I think the only option we have right now is to kill the damn thing." Lance suggested the following morning. We occupied both couches in the cabin's living room, trying to figure out what to do next.
Patrice, who was sitting on the couch in front of the one I was on, spoke up. "Kill it?" She asked, looking doubtful. "How are we supposed to do that?"
"We have to come up with a plan, to trap it." He said. He stood up from beside me and began to pace the floor, deep in thought.
Patrice shook her head. "I don't think that's a good idea. We don't have anything to capture it with." She replied.
Lance swing around to look at her, losing patience. "Do you have a better idea?" Patrice opened her mouth and then closed it again, so Lance continued. "We can't just sit around and wait for that thing to pick us off one by one."
Patrice crossed her arms and was about to respond, when Brian held up his hands. He was standing behind the couch I was sitting on. "Guys, let's not turn on each other now. All of us need to be working together to figure out what to do."
"I agree." Vincent said, nodding his head. "I also agree with Lance to capture the sharkgator. It's our only option."
Mr. Raglan, who was on the other side of the room, nodded his head. "Alright, so we all agree on killing it." We nodded our heads. "Okay, so the problem now is to figure out a plan."
The room fell silent as everyone thought about ways in which to capture and kill the sharkgator. After thinking about it for a minute, I came up blank. I really didn't know anything about this kind of stuff. Everyone began to give ideas, but they were discarded right away as not going to work. Getting overwhelmed with all the thoughts and discussion about the sharkgator, I got up from my seat on the couch and walked to the kitchen.
When I was in the kitchen, I rest my hands on the counter and looked outside through the small window at the trees that decorated the forest.
"Are you okay?"
I turned around suddenly at the sound of the voice. I saw Brian standing at the doorway watching me. I was so caught up in my thoughts that I didn't hear when he entered.
"Yeah, I guess so. I just want this to be over with." I replied.
He walked closer to me, his eyes never left mine. "I know what you mean."
"I can't believe this is happening." I added, looking down at the ground. "I would have never thought I would be in a situation like this. It's like an ongoing nightmare with no way of escaping."
I didn't know that a single tear had run down my cheek, until I felt his hands cup my cheek. He used his thumb to brush the tear away. Surprised at the contact, I lifted my head and looked up at him. When I did so, I felt my breath catch in my throat. I also notice how close he was standing to me.
He didn't say anything, he just looked back at me. In that moment, I wanted him to hold me and tell me that everything was going to be alright. To tell me that we were going to get out of here alive. Even though I knew there was no possible way for him to know that or promise that, but to just hear him say it would make me feel a lot better. Letting my thoughts get the better of me, I closed the gap between us and wrapped my arms around him. I couldn't take it anymore, I just wanted to hug him. He wrapped his arms around me as well, holding me tight.
I buried my head in his chest and inhaled his scent. For some reason, I felt better. I wanted to stay in the hug for a bit more, but he pulled away. He didn't move away from me though. He still held me close as he stared down at me. The look in his eyes made my heart beat picked up speed. It was beating so loud, that it echoed in my ears.
He then lifted his hands to tilt my chin up to him and he brought his lips to mine and kissed me. I felt him tremble in my arms, before I immediately kissed him back. His lips moved against mine gently, softly and I couldn't help but cling to him. The kiss did not last long though, as he soon pulled away.
I opened my eyes to see him looking at me. He cleared his throat. "I'm sorry. I shouldn't have done that." He apologized.
I smiled at him. "It's okay."
Suddenly, Anna came into the kitchen sporting a smile. "Guys, come and listen this. We have a plan to capture the sharkgator."
