âï¸ Killian âï¸
"Great job man, that Ponetro guy didn't know what hit him when they put Killian the Serpent on his case." Cain, my co-worker, praised as he clapped my back.
I chuckled at the nickname I received but I was feeling somewhat proud about my achievements today.
I'm not a detective for only our mafia's sake, but because I actually enjoy it.
I get drunk off the feeling of knowing that I stopped someone from hurting any more people and I just love the thrill of the chase my job gives me.
It was actually after I got this job that Dominic requested I keep track of what other mafias were up to.
And I wanted to help my brother in any way that I could, so I agreed.
As I made my way towards the exit, everyone I pass by greets or waves at me.
Not to brag or anything, but I'm pretty popular around here.
It has been dark outside for quite a while now, the only light being the mini streetlights scattered around the parking lot.
When I finally close the door to my car, a deep sigh escapes my mouth.
I rest my forehead gently on the steering wheel as the never ending thoughts rush through my head.
The silence only making them louder.
Different emotions hit me all over again when I remembered what had happened to my sister.
I tried to get my mind away from it by distracting myself with work but once I'm alone, it's all I can think about.
No person should've gone through something like that, let alone my sister who was only 8 years old.
My sister, who came out stronger than ever, but had to do it alone.
And that's what truly made my heart shatter into a million tiny pieces.
She had to grow up at the age 8, she had to make money somehow to make sure she wouldn't be starving on the side of the road, she had to get through life on her own.
But what broke me the most was imagining a little Leonessa, who was shot by her own adoptive father, alone on a hospital bed knowing that the only family she thought she had was now gone.
All because of some mentally unstable psycho who physically harmed someone else's child, to make the sick delusion his mind had created a reality.
Leonessa had been through so many hardships and we weren't there to help her through it.
But it's different now because she's back and there are still many more important steps she has to take in her life.
And this time we'll all be right next to her, every step of the way.
With a new found energy, I start the car and reverse out of the parking space.
It's been a long week and it's time to go home.
Back to my family.
â¢Â°â¢Â°â¢Â°â¢Â°â¢Â°â¢Â°â¢Â°â¢Â°â¢Â°â¢Â°â¢Â°â¢Â°â¢Â°â¢Â°â¢Â°â¢Â°â¢Â°â¢Â°â¢Â°â¢Â°â¢
I quietly close the door behind me and softly put down my keys on the glass table.
I cringed as the keys made an unecessarily loud noise the moment they touched the the table.
I don't understand how something, that wouldn't bother anyone in the day time, can make such a huge ruckus.
Make it make sense please.
As I was about to make my way towards the stairs, the sound of something falling and a small groan that followed after caught my attention.
It's after midnight and everyone is supposed to be asleep. What could it be?
I was now on high alert as I followed the sound to the livingroom.
I grabbed the nearest thing to me, which just so happened to be a tissue box, and held it securily against my chest.
Eh, I can make it work.
I pressed my back against the wall and and slowly peeked my head around the corner.
What I saw was a lone figure standing in the middle of the living room and facing my way. They haven't noticed me yet since I kept my body hidden and it was quite dark.
My heartbeat slightly picked up as I aimed the tissue box at the figure.
"Be gone, spawn of satan!" I yelled out.
I threw the tissue box as hard as I could and made sure that my aim was perfect enough for one of the corners of the box to hit the figure on it's forehead.
"OW! SHITS AND SPRINKLES THAT HURT!" The figure exclaimed as the tissue box came in contact with their head.
Hah, bulls- wait that voice sounds awfully familiar.
I quickly switched on the lights and the first thing I saw was a head covered with messy mocha brown hair.
A wave of relief washed over me when I realised who it was but it went as soon as it came when my eyes looked down at the face.
"AAAHH! IT'S A GHOST!" I sreamed in a high pitched note.
Yes I'll admit, not one of my best features, but hey, I'm still sexy as fuck.
"Oh my cheesesticks, would you stop screaming like a little girl Killian. It's me, Leonessa!" She stated as she looked at me with slight annoyance whilst rubbing her head where the tissue box hit her.
"Oh shit, sorry Leonessa, you just look like Ghostface from Scary Movie with those dark circles under your eyes. Wait, why do you have dark circles under your eyes?" I asked with worry as I quickly made my way over to her.
"It's just that I had to catch up on a lot of work that I missed since I was a little preoccupied. And I'm just so frustrated and tired and I just wanna pass out but I can't because I have to prepare for a very important event that's happening next week." She sighed out as I hugged her.
I felt bad for her and how she had to stay up this late to complete work no teenager should be doing.
Suddenly a brilliant idea popped into my head. I quickly let go of Leonessa and took out my phone.
"What are you doing?" She asked confused but I ignored her as I connected my phone to the speakers that were situated under the TV.
I ran to the lightswitch on the wall and slightly dimmed the lights to make the room a bit darker.
I ran back towards Leo and tapped the 'play' button on my phone.
The room was suddenly filled with Frank Sinatra's 'Fly Me To The Moon'.
"Killian! You're gonna wake up our brothers." She exclaimed quitly and I only chuckled.
"Oh don't worry Leo, those ogres could sleep through the first atomic bomb and still not wake up." I said as I pulled her into a comfortable dancing position.
It took her a minute before she wrapped her arms around me as her head rested on my chest.
I slowly started swaying us side to side.
"So what's this 'very important event' you spoke of." I asked out of curiousity.
"There's gonna be a fashion show next week Saturday for my new line of clothing. But the thing is I have to fly out the day before to make sure everything is ready and presentable because very important people are gonna attend the show. Everyone in the fashion industry looks up to them and I guess it's just putting me on edge." She said all in one breath and I nodded my head in understanding.
"Ok and where exactly is it that you have to fly out to." I asked again as I twirled her around and brought her into my arms again.
She laughed at the move before answering.
"It's in France, Paris to be exact." She said with a little bit of hesitance.
I hummed at her answer and a small smile appeared on my face.
"You know, I've always wanted to visit Paris and I'm pretty sure the others would love that too, hell we would be honoured to even model your clothes." I stated with a hint of exitement.
"Really?! You'll come with me? I actually am in need of a few male models." She said as she looked up at me for conformation.
"We'll discuss this when eveyone's awake but I'm 101% positive they'll instantly agree." I said with certainty and she suddenly hugged me tighter.
"Thank you Killian, you made me feel a lot more better." She said and I jumped with pride on the inside.
I would do anything to make Leonessa happy.
My sister wasn't just the light at the end of the tunnel, she was so much more than that.
She was the fairylights that were strung along the wall, she was every beautiful sunset, she was every laugh and every smile.
She was everything that made it worth living.
She was my Leonessa.
And so I couldn't help but hug her tighter as we gently swayed to the music in the middel of our living room.
I lock this memory within the deepest part of my heart and mind.
Hoping that I could replay this moment for many years to come.
