âDamn, this place is ridiculously far. Are we crossing a country or something? Weâve been traveling through Shanxi this whole time, and itâs taking forever!â Seo-jun grumbled.
At his complaint, Chun-bong couldnât help but laugh.
âIf you hadnât been messing around so much, weâd probably have cut the travel time in half.â
âWhat do you mean, messing around?! What did I even do?â
âYou seriously donât know? I could go on about it all day.â
âYou had fun too!â
âWell, yeah, it was fun.â
While some of Seo-junâs antics were unnecessary, she had thoroughly enjoyed the food tours they did in each town they passed through.
So tasty... Chun-bong licked her lips at the memory.
âRemember the bing tanghulu? It was genius to make them out of glutinous rice cakes! Whoever came up with that is a culinary genius.â
âYou actually liked those? They were way too sweet for me.â
âYou have no taste.â
Seo-jun shook his head in disbelief as he glanced around.
âBy the way, there are so many people here.â
âItâs the season for it. Huayin is always crowded, but itâs busier than usual now.â
âThat just pisses me off.â
âWhat now, you crazy idiot?â
âThere are too many people.â
Sighing, Seo-jun picked up Chun-bong and threw her into the air.
âLetâs go, Flying Chun-bong!â
âHey!â
In an instant, he leaped after her, catching her mid-air before landing them both on a nearby rooftop.
âI create my own path. Where I walk, a path is made.â
âThere he goes again, being crazy.â
Chun-bong sighed deeply, pressing her hand to her forehead as she surveyed the scene below.
âYou sure thereâs a place to stay around here?â
âIf not, weâll just sleep outside.â
âGross. No way.â
Spotting a guesthouse in the distance, Chun-bongâs eyes lit up.
âHey! Letâs try over there!â
They used qigong to hop across the rooftops, heading toward the guesthouse, but before they could get far, a man leaped up from the street to block their path.
âExcuse me, please refrain from using qigong to jump on rooftops in public.â
He was dressed in a blue robe, with small plum blossom patterns embroidered on the sleeves. Seo-jun nudged Chun-bong.
âMount Hua?â
âYeah.â
Chun-bong awkwardly smiled and clasped her hands in apology.
âSorry, we forgot for a moment.â
âNo worries. Itâs not a big deal.â
The man smiled and disappeared as swiftly as heâd come.
Watching his movement closely, Seo-jun nodded in admiration.
âThat guyâs skilled.â
âIf youâre about to call him a âfoot masterâ because heâs good at qigong, Iâm going to lose it.â
âNo, no, even I wouldnât go that farâ¦â
Seeing Seo-jun recoil at the idea, Chun-bong cleared her throat and jumped down from the roof.
âAll your fault we got scolded.â
âBoo-hoo.â
Chun-bong sighed again while Seo-jun chuckled and walked along behind her.
âAnyway, letâs hurry before someone takes the room.â
Luckily, there were still rooms available at the guesthouse.
The owner looked them up and down before asking, âOne room? Or two?â
âHmm⦠what do you think?â Seo-jun asked, turning to Chun-bong.
âOne room,â she answered without hesitation.
âFor one night. Do you need food as well?â
âNo need, right?â Seo-jun said, glancing at Chun-bong, who nodded.
âYeah, weâre good.â
Chun-bong paid for the room and took the key.
âLetâs drop off our stuff and get going. Iâm starving.â
âYouâre gonna turn into a pig if you eat too much.â
âOh, shut up. Werenât you the one telling me to eat more?â
âIâve realized somethingâyou never gain weight in your cheeks, no matter how much you eat.â
âScrew you.â
After leaving their belongings in the room and finishing a meal at a nearby restaurant, the two strolled through the bustling streets, each nibbling on a stick of bing tanghulu.
âHey, Goldie, whenâs the registration for the martial arts tournament?â
âNext week.â
âSo, what are we doing until then?â
âNo idea. Just sightseeing, I guess.â
âSightseeing?â
Seo-jun tilted his head, unsure of what there was to see.
Well, in a city this big, there must be something interesting.
âHey, do you think we could visit the Mount Hua Sect?â
âSome areas are open to outsiders, so we could.â
âLetâs go check it out tomorrow, then.â
Chun-bong thought for a moment before nodding.
âSure, why not? As long as I wear a veil, we should be fine.â
âA veil? Oh, right.â
Seo-jun suddenly remembered. This was Mount Hua, after all. There might be people who could recognize Geum-hee, Chun-bongâs real identity.
âNever mind, weâll have plenty of chances to visit later.â
âNo, seriously, itâs fine. Hardly anyone would recognize me. I almost never left the house, so no one outside my family knows what I look like.â
âWait a second, you were a shut-in?â
âMy dad was way too overprotective.â
Chun-bong smiled bitterly, and seeing the sadness on her face, Seo-jun suddenly scooped her up and started running through the streets.
âLetâs go, Chun-bong! Iâll buy you five veils today!â
âOneâs enough, you idiot.â
âWoohoo!â
âStop! Everyoneâs staring!â
In the end, they only bought two veils.
Back at the guesthouse, they found themselves drawn to the lively atmosphere and sat down in a corner to watch the commotion.
Although they werenât hungry, the vibe made them want to order something.
âLetâs order something light to go with some drinks.â
âGo ahead, drink.â
âNah, canât do that. Youâre banned from drinking until youâre fully grown.â
âWhereâd that rule come from?!â
âThis big brother says no!â
Seo-jun slammed the table, and Chun-bong pouted in response.
Just then, a waiter passed by, and Seo-jun called out to him.
âHey, waiter! Can I get a carbonara?â
ââ¦Pardon? A⦠what?â
âWow, no class.â
Seo-jun rubbed his chin before turning to Chun-bong.
âHow about some cold noodles?â
âSure, we can split one.â
âYou think thatâs okay?â
He glanced at the waiter, who nodded.
âThatâll be fine.â
âAlright, letâs go with that.â
The waiter hurried off, and Seo-jun absentmindedly gazed out the window.
So, I win the martial arts tournament⦠Whatâs next after that?
Reaching into his pocket, his hand brushed against a small wooden token. It was the one Mae-wol had given him from Hongwolru.
Should I head to Haomun to check out where I can find some elixirs?
Just as he was lost in thought, a loud voice cut through the air.
âYou dare to insult me?!â
âWho insulted who? What about your spear now?â
âHah! Isnât it obvious? The king of all weapons is the sword! Other weapons can never compare to the sword!â
âFine, then! Prove it right here, right now!â
A man grabbed a spear from the wall, while the other unsheathed his sword from his waist.
The non-martial artists quickly cleared out, but with the martial arts tournament around the corner, many warriors remained seated.
One of them recognized the man with the spear.
âHey, isnât that Quick Spear Nam Soo-hyuk?â
âAnd the other one is Coldhearted Sword Um Ga-do.â
Apparently, both were somewhat well-known martial artists.@@novelbin@@
Seo-jun curiously knocked on the table.
âWow, but if they keep this up, will our noodles even make it out?â
âNot likely. Unless the waiterâs secretly a master.â
âThatâs probably not the case, right?â
âYou never know. What if heâs a hidden expert whoâs mastered the art of evasion?â
âChun-bong.â
âYeah?â
âYou donât actually believe that.â
âNope.â
Chun-bong nodded, and Seo-jun sighed, watching as the two men continued their duel.
âAgh, these idiots.â
He stood up from his seat.
âIâll be right back.â
âDonât get hurt.â
âAgainst them? Really?â
Seo-jun chuckled as he walked over to where the sword and spear were clashing fiercely.
Although they seemed to be holding back from using their full internal energy, Seo-jun could tell it wouldnât be long before they lost control.
âThis bastardâ¦!â
Coldhearted Swordâs remaining eye began to glow blue.
Being outmatched by Quick Spear, he resorted to releasing his Sword Qi.
âYouâve lost your mind!â
In response, Quick Spear coated his spear with a green Spear Qi.
With tables already shattered, it looked like the entire guesthouse was about to come crashing down.
âWow, what a pathetic fight.â
Seo-jun grinned as he stepped between them.
âKeep going, come on. Iâm enjoying the show.â
âWho the hell are you?!â
Coldhearted Sword growled, glaring at Seo-jun with his one good eye. Seo-jun smirked back.
âCanât you see? My cold noodles arenât coming out because of you two! If the noodles overcook, whoâs going to take responsibility, huh?!â
âYouâre insane!â
Enraged, Coldhearted Sword charged at him. Seo-jun flicked his finger.
Ping!
The energy blast was blocked, and Coldhearted Swordâs eyes went wide.
âA masterâ¦!â
âYouâre a novice.â
In the blink of an eye, Seo-jun closed the distance and struck Coldhearted Sword in the chest.
âUrghâ¦!â
The man dropped to his knees, providing a perfect opportunity.
âTime to settle down!â
Thud! Seo-jun knocked him out cold with a sharp flick to the head.
âAnd now, your turn?â
ââ¦I donât want to fight.â
âBut I do.â
Seo-jun took a step forward, and Quick Spearâs face paled.
ââ¦Please go easy on me.â
âSure.â
Thud! A quick flick to the forehead sent Quick Spear crumpling beside Coldhearted Sword.
âIâve avenged my noodles.â
Seo-jun raised his fist in triumph, and the remaining warriors in the guesthouse erupted in applause.
âBrilliant!â
âWhat amazing skill!â
No doubt about itâmartial artists were all a bit crazy.
Shaking his head, Seo-jun called out to the kitchen.
âMy noodles ready yet?â
âYes, sir!â
Thatâs all that mattered.
Grinning from ear to ear, Seo-jun turned to head back to his seat.
âWe meet again, traveler.â
At the sound of a familiar voice, Seo-jun stopped in his tracks.
Standing at the entrance of the guesthouse was the same Mount Hua disciple from earlier.
âOh, itâs you. Whatâs up?â
âI came to stop the fight. Mount Hua is responsible for the safety of Huayin.â
âI see.â
So, what gave those idiots the nerve to start a fight here?
He briefly wondered before shrugging it off.
âGuess they were just dumb.â
The disciple approached him, smiling.
âSo, would you mind coming with me for a moment? It wonât take long.â
âMe? Why? I didnât even start the fight.â
The disciple glanced at the two unconscious men, then back at Seo-jun.
âAh, I see. I did fight.â
âSoâ¦â
âWait.â
Just then, a woman stepped forward from among the martial artists.
Though her bamboo hat hid her face, it was clear to everyone that she was a woman.
âOh, three heads?â Seo-jun instinctively placed his hand on his sword.
The woman tilted her head in curiosity before speaking.
âThis man was only stopping the fight. If he hadnât intervened, the entire guesthouse would be rubble by now.â
âI see⦠well thenâ¦â
âShh. My identity is supposed to be a secret.â
Her lips curled into a smile beneath her bamboo hat.
âBut seeing as youâve met me, could we quietly let this slide?â
âHm⦠Alright, young lady. If he stopped the fight, then of course.â
The disciple smiled awkwardly and bowed slightly to Seo-jun.
âMy apologies for the misunderstanding.â
âNo problem.â
âThank you for your understanding, traveler.â
âHm.â
âWhat is it?â
âIâve got a craving for pizza now.â
âAh⦠I donât think youâll find any in Huayin.â
âAh, darn it.â
Seo-jun smacked his forehead and nodded respectfully at the large-breasted woman.
âThank you for your help.â
âNo worries. Iâve just had my eye on your little sister since earlier. Sheâs adorable.â
âOh, I see you have good taste. Yes, our Chun-bong is the cutest in the world.â
âUfufu, thatâsââ
âOh, my noodles are ready. Iâll be off then.â
He couldnât resist noodles.
