Noemi yelled, âI told you to leave! Didnât you hear me?â
Deanna interjected, âMom, please donât push Brian away.
He loves you, and he is willing to divorce Rosalynn.
Right, Brian?â
A brief silence enveloped the room, and Rosalynnâs fingers involuntarily clenched into a fist as she listened to their conversation.
She eventually heard Brian say yes.
Deannaâs voice came again.
âDid you hear that, Mom? He has agreed.
Can you lie down for a while?â
Noemi asked, âBrian, are you really going to divorce her? Are you going to do it right now?â
Brian assured her, âMom, I donât have to handle the divorce process myself.
Iâll have the lawyer take care of it.
â
Noemi seemed satisfied.
âExcellent, Brian.
I donât want to stay here any longer.
Book a flight right away, and letâs get out of here.
â
Brian replied, âSure, itâs all up to you.
â
Rosalynn stood at the doorway, her gaze unfocused as she released her grip on the door handle.
Had Brian really agreed to divorce her?
Did he actually mean it?
When she had asked him outright if he intended to divorce her yesterday, he hadnât given her a straight answer.
It was as if he had enough of her and was just waiting for the right opportunity to divorce her.
A sudden, intense pain gripped her heart.
It was like she had been slashed by a knife.
She felt moisture on her cheeks and instinctively reached up to touch it, only to realize they were her tears.
She looked at her damp fingertips and smiled self-deprecatingly.
She was always known for her resilience and unwavering optimism.
