Rosalynn let go of Karina and wiped her tears.
âWhy are you both here?â
âItâs Brian.
He gave me a call and said you were in an accident.
He wanted us to come to the hospital and check on you.
â Sanford scanned Rosalynn from head to toe.
âAre you alright?â
When Rosalynn heard Brianâs name, her expression darkened.
âs BunnyBookery
âIâm okay,â she replied tersely.
Already aware of the news, Sanford turned his gaze to the emergency room.
âWhat about Barlow? Is he still in the emergency room?â
âYes,â Rosalynn answered.
Sanford wanted to say something but chose to hold his tongue.
He was curious about why Rosalynn and Barlow had gone to the suburbs at night.
Just then, Sanfordâs phone rang.
It was Brian calling.
Sanford glanced at Rosalynn and picked up the call.
âBrian, Rosalynn is fine.
Do you want to talk to her?â
Sanford handed Rosalynn the phone.
âIâm sorry, but I really donât want to talk to him right now,â
Rosalynn murmured, not even reaching for the phone.
Sanford found himself taken aback when Rosalynn declined to answer the phone.
With a sigh, he moved aside and said to Brian, âBrian, Rosalynn is not in the best mood right now.
It might be a good idea to head back home soon.
â
Brianâs response was a prolonged silence before he finally asked,
âShe doesnât want to answer the phone?â
âShe is accompanying Karina right now.
â
After another pause, Brian said, âIâm on my way to the airport.
â
âAlright, got it,â Sanford replied before hanging up.
He turned to Rosalynn and said, âRosalyn, Brian will be back tomorrow morning.
â
Rosalynnâs response was cold and detached.
