Karina snatched her coat and bag before dashing to answer the door.
Carlow was standing outside.
âHey, what brings you here?â Karina asked.
âHaleigh invited me for dinner,â Carlow said, holding a bag of food and smiling.
Haleighâs voice rang out from inside.
âIs it Carlow at the door?â
âItâs me, Haleigh,â Carlow replied, flashing a grin.
âKarina, keep Carlow company for a bit.
Dinner will be ready soon,â
Haleigh said, still busy preparing the meal in the kitchen.
âHey, Haleigh, I have to step out.
Feel free to enjoy your dinner without me,â Karina responded.
With that, she changed her shoes and got ready to leave.
Carlow raised an eyebrow.
âDinnerâs about to start.
Where are you off to?â
âMind your own business,â Karina snapped before grabbing her bag and leaving.
Carlow quickly set down the bag he was holding on a side cabinet and turned to Haleigh, saying, âHaleigh, weâve got to head out for a bit.
â
Karina paused in front of the elevator and noticed Carlow trailing behind her.
She turned to confront him.
âWhy are you following me?â
Carlow, hands in his pockets with a playful smile on his Lips, responded, âWith that fierce look, are you planning some mischief? It seems you might need someone to handle the aftermath.
â
His voice was soft yet carried a hint of warmth.
Karina shot him a brief, searching glance.
Lately, he was often seen around her, his gaze filled with unspoken emotion.
Could he have feelings for her?
As the elevator dinged to signal its arrival, Karina stepped inside, with Carlow close behind.
Inside, she caught his reflection on the mirrored wall of the elevator.
Without turning, she asked bluntly, âDo you have feelings for me, Carlow?â
Carlowâs eyebrows lifted slightly as he met her gaze through the reflection.
His lips curled into a half-smile.
âYou caught me, didnât you?â he replied.
She was right!
With a scowl, Karina stated firmly, âDonât harbor any feelings for me.
Iâve told you, marriage isnât in my plans.
â
