Gail was right.
If Brian was missing, there were two possibilities.
It was either he had escaped the car when it fell into the sea, or he hadnât survived.
She clung to the hope that he had escaped, even though there was no news of him yet.
Though the thought of him missing was unbearable, it brought her a sliver of hope.
As long as he wasnât found, she could believe he was alive.
She needed him to be alive.
Her eyes welled up again as she recalled his words to her before the accident.
âHoney, where could you be? Please be safe,â she whispered in her heart.
âDonât cry, dear.
God looks after good people.
Heâll be fine,â Gail said, wiping the tears from the corners of Rosalynnâs eyes.
Rosalynn nodded vigorously, her eyes red but determined.

âHe must be fine,â she repeated, more to herself than to Gail.
Seeing Rosalynn calm down a bit, Gail felt a slight sense of relief.
âCan you tell me what happened, dear? Why did your car suddenly fall into the sea? Lyndon said there were bullet holes in your car and the tires blew out.
Were you attacked?â
Rosalynnâs eyes flashed with anger as she spoke.
âLast night, a car followed ours.
The people in that car had weapons.
Their intention was clear-they wanted to kill Brian and me.
â
She paused, her eyes filling with tears again.
âBrian made me jump out first to save my life.
He stayed behind to draw the attackers away.
â
Seeing her daughter on the verge of tears again, Gail felt a deep sorrow in her heart.
âBrian is a good husband.
Heâll be okay,â she reassured Rosalynn.
Rosalynn swallowed hard, fighting to hold back her tears.
âNo, heâs not a good husband.
If he were, he wouldnât have left me and gone missing.
â
Gail was taken aback initially, then she saw the sorrow in her daughterâs eyes and gradually understood the frustration in her words.
She sighed softly, wishing for her son-in-lawâs safe return.
âRosalyn, do you know who wants you dead?â Gail asked, circling back to the topic.
