In the fading light, the silhouette of a castle loomed through the trees, its presence ominous.
Under the scant illumination, armed guards were visible patrolling the ramparts, their movements methodical and soldier-like.
Rosalynn peered through her binoculars, scanning the foreboding structure, then lowered them with a deep breath.
Hugh maneuvered the car onto a narrow trail and halted after a kilometer.
âThis is as far as we can go without being detected.
â
Sanford unbuckled his seatbelt, his voice firm.
âHugh, thanks.
â
With a supportive smile, Hugh exited the vehicle and watched as Sanford assisted Rosalynn out.
âEnsure you all return safely.
Iâll be awaiting your good news.
â
âOkay.
â Rosalynn smiled.
Hugh bumped fists with Sanford.
They shared another quick embrace, then Hugh climbed back into his car and drove away.
Soon after, Arthurâs car rolled up to the scene.
He and several of his subordinates disembarked.
Sanford frowned.
âMr.
Nixon, surely youâre not planning to infiltrate the Green Gangâs stronghold with just this small team?â
âOf course not,â Arthur replied confidently.
âIâve dispatched additional squads in various directions to encircle the area through the woods.
â
.
.
Library
Sanford nodded.
âUnderstood.
Letâs go.
â
âJust a moment,â Arthur said, his attention abruptly turning towards Rosalynn, a hint of surprise in his gaze.
âWho is this beautiful woman?â
Rosalynn had chosen not to disguise herself, instead appearing as she typically did.
She offered a slight smile.
âMr.
Nixon, itâs me, Rosalynn.
â
Hearing her words, Arthur was momentarily taken aback, his eyes fixating on her face.
âYou really are Mrs.
Hughes?â
âYes.
â
Arthur swallowed, admiration apparent.
âYouâre so beautiful!â
Sanford frowned and stepped forward, positioning himself protectively in front of Rosalynn.
âMr.
Nixon, keep your drool in check!â
