Brian proceeded to fill a bowl with the soup and handed it to Rosalynn.
She stared at him with narrowed eyes for one brief moment before slowly taking the bowl.
Seemingly encouraged by her action, Brian smiled even wider.
He then plucked bits of the dishes and piled them on her plate.
Rosalynn ate quietly, and for a long while, no one said anything.
Just as they were finishing up, Brian wiped his lips with a napkin and asked, âHow was it? Is the food to your Liking?â
âThe dishes arenât bad.
â
âStill not as delicious as the food you cook.
â Brian paused and Looked her in the eye.
âWhen will you cook for me again?â
If she was willing to cook for him, it meant that she would be his girlfriend.
Was he so sure that she would say yes?
Rosalynn pursed her lips.
âSince you mentioned it, allow me to answer your question yesterday.
I do not want to be your girlfriend.
â
Brian froze, his smile completely wiped off his face.
âWhy not?â
âBecause I donât want to be involved in the train wreck that is your love life.
I donât want to be referred to as your ex-girlfriend once you get tired of me.

She knew that was exactly what he would do.
It was the textbook definition of a player, and Brian was one.
Once he got bored with his current girlfriend, he just broke up with her and moved on with a new one.
Rosalynn refused to be another notch on his belt.
Brianâs eyes narrowed, and a glint of determination settled on his features.
âYou say that you donât want to be my ex-girlfriend.
Rosalynn, are you saying that you want me to marry you? Do you want to be Mrs.
Hughes?â
Rosalynn smiled sardonically.
âYouâre reading too much into it.
Thatâs not what I meant at all.
I just donât want to be involved with you outside of work.
â
Mrs.
Hughes?
She had been Mrs.
Hughes for two years.
She didnât want to hold that title ever again.
Brianâs face darkened.
âDo you have someone you like? Is it Barlow?â
Why the hell wouldnât she want to be with him?
