Chapter 15 Relying on You in This Lifetime Henry stood inside the door, bloodshot eyes hurt Evelyn.
âEvelyn, do you need to see it ?â
Evelynâs throat tightened, and the stinging sensation blurred her teary eyes, âNo, Henry.â
Evelyn suddenly grinned, a smile uglier than tears.
Before Henry could react, she cried and plunged into the manâs arms.
âFortunately, I arrived in time. You scared me.â
âI was foolish, I was stupid. I misjudged people in the past, and now I regret it. Can you forgive me?â
âPlease donât dislike me, Henry. I beg you to like me, please continue liking me.â
Evelynâs voice choked, words incoherent, fearing that Henry might really give up on her.
Evelynâs tears were truly lethal; she softened Henry, melted him with her tears.
He reached out to embrace Evelyn and only then realized she was dressed too lightly, as cold as deep winterâs ice, stiff and freezing.
âYouâ¦â
Before he could finish his sentence, the elevator slowly ascended, carrying chaotic sounds from inside.
âReporters?â Danger flashed in Henryâs eyes.
âI donât know. It wasnât me.â
Mia had suggested to Evelyn to find reporters to provoke Henry, but Evelyn had rejected the idea.
Unexpectedly, Mia had done it behind her back, which explained why Henry had been angry and kept her confined for several months in her previous life.
Henryâs deep mistrust wounded Evelyn deeply, but she knew that she deserved this.
âIâll explain to you later. Letâs hide for now.â
Evelyn pushed the man into the room.
The woman she had prepared earlier was unconscious, lying on the bed in thin clothes.
The private room at the club was large, but the decorations were too simple to conceal anyone. After searching for a while, Evelyn reluctantly managed to bring Henry into the closet.
Shortly afterward, a chaotic knocking sound came from outside.
The two looked at each other, silent.
Henry lowered his head and saw Evelyn with one foot wearing a hospital slipper and the other bare, the sole covered in tiny wounds, a mixture of blood and mud, dirty and miserable. He furrowed his brow, visibly displeased.
Sensing his change, Evelyn pleaded softly, âPlease, Iâm cold.â
The girlâs eyes were watery, making her look like a pitiful abandoned puppy.
Henry remained expressionless and said nothing.
Evelyn persisted.
Sniffling, she feigned pitifully, âIt hurts.â
One second, two seconds, three seconds passed before the man finally made a move.
He took off his suit and put it on Evelyn. Then he grabbed her foot, avoiding the wounds, and tucked it into his arms. The mud on the sole dirty his shirt.
A warm flow spread from the sole make Evelynâs nose tingle.
She knew that this foolish man couldnât bear to let her go.
âSo warmâ¦â
Evelynâs eyes sparkled. She deliberately tapped Henryâs chest with her foot.
The manâs eyes turned reddish in an instant.
Pretending not to notice, Evelyn shrugged off the suit draped over her, leaned forward, and rested in Henryâs arms.
âWell, actually, Iâm not just cold in my feet. Would you mind warming me up a bit more?â
In her previous life, she didnât even want to look at Henry, but now she felt like Henryâs body was a magnet, irresistibly drawing her closer.
She willingly approached him and reveled in it., enjoying every moment.
She was still immersed in her own world and didnât notice that from the moment she approached, Henryâs entire back had tensed up, his breathing becoming heavy.
After a while, he spoke with difficulty, âEvelyn, do you know what kind of wine I drank?â
Evelyn was stunned, not expecting him to drink the wine despite knowing there is something in itâ¦.
Soon, Henryâs body changes interrupted her thoughts, so hard and warm⦠That is⦠Evelynâ face reddenâ¦
With a small hand against his chest, Evelynâs slender body became still. âYou⦠itâs⦠itâs too narrow hereâ¦?â
