Chapter 29

Words cannot describe how busy he's been this past week.

Preparations for the wedding, spending quality time with Agatha, legal paperwork, questions and more questions the kingdoms people have.

Truly the prince could go on for hours.

But he doesn't even have time for that.

He sighed, looking at the many stacks of papers placed on his desk.

He never expected a marriage to be this stressful, these past few years had been so peaceful.

He had almost forgotten who he was for a good month or two.

With every hour that passed the stacks of papers seemed to never end. This discouraged him more than he was before.

The prince gave up and decided to stare at the wall behind him, not that it would change anything. But it was better than constantly signing papers and scrolls.

"Prince?" A voice spoke from outside his door.

"Yes?"

"May i come in?"

"Of course."

The prince closed his eyes and deeply sighed. Preparing emotionally for another stack of papers, but instead he was greeted with a cold hand reach his.

This jolted his eyes open. It was Agatha, a relieved sigh escaped his lips. And he looked at her happily.

"I thought you were busy too Agatha ?" He smiled tiredly.

"Well.. i ran away, BUT if they ask for me i was never here. Got it?" She smiled back.

"I won't tell a soul."

"But you should probably go back, don't want you to get shouted at."

Ehann squeezed her hand lightly, she was just as busy as him. And every hour a butler drops off a stack of papers on their table.

He had memorized this because he started an inside game where he would attempt to finish the stacks of papers from before, before the butler came in with another stack.

He had given up after the 20th win.

"I want to help you, my lady gave me some slack on the papers." She hummed out.

Then she looked around, then outside into the hallway. Then she leaned into his ear and whispered.

"Don't tell anyone, but she offered to sign mines while i stay with you."

The prince stared at her with a blank expression. Then bursted out into a laughing fit.

"You're marbles." He laughed out.

"What! It's true you know!" She laughed aswell.

"Well, okay then. What do you want to help with?"

"I'll take this stack." She smiled.

She pulled in the chair from his desk and sat down. Starting to write things and sign things rather quickly than his pace.

He noticed this and attempted to pick up the pace. Agatha finished each paper so gracefully the prince almost felt intimidated.

Then another knock was hear on his door. They both quickly gave eatchother panicked looks, and Agatha ran and hid behind the prince's chair.

It's why she uses short dresses, she likes to move and run around more than other princess.

"Prince?"

"You may enter."

Then his very same butler from before entered the office.

"What is it now Belmont ?" He sighed in defeat.

"Well, be glad you don't have any more stacks of paper. It's a letter."

"And it's anonymous."

This intrigued the prince, completely forgetting about the princess behind his chair.

"Does it have a letter in the front?"

"It's an A, do you know anyone with an a in their name?" He questioned.

"Well, other than princess Agatha."

"Could you pass me the letter?"

"Of course."

The prince inspected the letter, it wasn't an old rusted letter, but it wasn't a new and fancy letter. More like in between.

And the handwriting. He knew it all to well.

The butler had already left. And so he opened the letter.

'𝓜𝓮𝓮𝓽 𝓶𝓮 𝓲𝓷 𝓽𝓱𝓮 𝓯𝓵𝓸𝔀𝓮𝓻

𝓰𝓪𝓻𝓭𝓮𝓷 𝔀𝓮 𝓴𝓷𝓸𝔀.'

-A

And his heart stopped, for a second time.

Its been a week since he's seen Aelius, and to be completely honest. He didn't think he would've reached out first.

If anyone else saw that letter other than him they would think it's a threat from someone towards him.

But reading it. He could feel the nervous ness the other could feel.

And that made him nervous as well.

"Is it from that boy." Agatha mumbled.

That made the prince's blood run cold, and he felt a slight shiver run down his spine.

He had completely forgotten about Agatha being in his office. And so to hear her suddenly talk like that..

"I.. don't know what you mean?" He tried to cover his letter.

Then Agatha dumbfounded, stared at him. Then quickly sat down in the chair she was in before.

"Oh just seriously, just how dumb do you think i am?"

"I-"

"I know there's something going on between you too." She huffed out.

"I've been knowing since i saw the painting you made of him."

"And tell me honestly, what do you plan on doing when our marriage happens?"

She stared at him in disbelief.

"I.. i don't know Aga- tha, i j- just.. i d- on't know." He cried out.

He closed his eyes and covered his face. Not wanting to look at the face she made at him, he brought this out to himself, and now he doesn't know how to end it.

He doesn't have the heart to break it off with Aelius, he still loved him. Deeply.

And to see the letter he wrote to him, scared him the most. Cause deep down, he wanted it to keep going. Selfish, yes.

Extremely.

It all stressed him out. If only he was just a random towns boy aswell. Maybe, just maybe.

It wouldn't be so complicated.

Then he felt a cold hand touch his.

And the cold hand took his hands away from his face.

He opened his eyes to the sight of her crying. And this made him cry aswell.

"Why are you crying Agatha? Don't cry.." He held her hands tightly.

"I can't make you love me, no matter how hard i try. " She sadly smiled.

"You love him, and i can't stop that."

"And neither can our marriage."

This confused him. What did she mean by that? He wasn't ready for marriage, he wasn't ready to love just, anyone in general.

But it happened, somehow.

"What, what do you mean?" He questioned her.

"You love me, right?" She questioned.

"Of course i do, i love you with all my heart." He smiled at her genuinely.

"But you don't love me the way i love you." She cried.

"Our marriage can unify us, sure. But it could never unify out love towards eatchother." She smiled at him.

"And the worst part is. We can't stop it. Even if we pleaded."

He stared at her sadly. He hated seeing her cry, the way her pretty face got stained with the droplets of cries she let out pained him.

She was in pain because of him, she was in pain because he loved another. And she sucked it in all for him.

It wasn't fair to her. And his eyes naturally closed. He didn't want to see her crying anymore, he hated the way he felt.

Even if he didn't love her like how she loves him, he had to suck it in, just like she did.

"I'll stop all of these problems." He smiled sadly at her.

"You don't need to worry about me, loving a man."

"You don't need to worry about me, loving anyone else, but you Agatha."

"I do love you, i truly do. And our marriage is more important than.. than some relationship i had with.. Someone before." He stuttered.

He had to stop it, he had to stop the relationship he had with Aelius. If he kept going.

The thought of double timing would eat him alive. And he feared loosing anyone.

If only, this was all another topic. Like literature. If only, what he experienced right now, was just a book he was reading. And nothing more.

"I need to leave the castle, and finish all of this." He stated.

"I'll... I'll finish you're s- stacks of papers." She mumbled out.

The prince left his office and walked to his chamber,he wiped his tears away and stiffly greeted the guards and anyone who walked by.

He changed his attire to amore comfortable one,and walked out outside the castle to the carriage that was already waiting for him.

His mind was blank, and his eyes fixated on the window beside him. The butler who maneuvered the carriage didn't bother asking what was wrong.

It was easy to read in the prince's face that he wasn't in the mood.

He didn't know how any of this would turn out.

But he did know something.

He hated being prince.
