The night was young and the scent of pinecones from the nearby forest
filled the air. The full moon was only a week away and Luca could feel
it's power already. All of his senses heightened, his strength, agility his
precision. Everything was perfect since his first shift two months ago
during the full moon. He was to start college at Attica community
college to keep up appearances as his mother was human a half breed
with alpha blood and appearances had to be maintained to safeguard
the family wealth passed down to him after his mother's death 8 years
ago.
His father had returned to the pack, and he was left with his caregiver
Nancy who was his motherâs best friend after he had mastered his
shifts. He was to be Alpha of his pack after his father passes but he
wasn't worried about that kind of responsibility as his father was well
revered for his strength and feared by all who'd crossed his path.
Since his shift in spite of being the son of a half breed, he was the son
of an Alpha, a Lycan. His father could bring forth his fangs, claws, and
make use of all the wolf's strengths and senses without fully
transforming and apparently so could he something that he chose to
keep from his father to be permitted to come study here at Attica. Had
his father known how special Luca was, he never would have permitted
this, appearances or not. To have an heir who was just like him to have
inherited the Lycan trait is an honor above all others.
That was a secret that he would have to keep from his father to follow
his heart; better yet the vision that he had during his first shift of a
beautiful white wolf with blue and green eyes. This wolf seemed to
connect with the wolf inside him. It was as if it was a part of him. Just
the thought of her made the wolf inside him jump for joy. What was
wrong with him.
Luca was permitted to attend a human community college on the
condition that upon completion that he would return to his pack to
choose a mate. All the she wolves of the pack were crazy about him.
They would literally throw themselves at him it was ridiculous. He could
have anyone of his choosing but he really loved a challenge. He wanted
to experience the thrill of the chase; something that did not come easy,
something that he could not have; so naturally when he saw this wolf in
his vision, he knew that it was highly unlikely that he would find her, but
he felt the urge to try.
Luca looked up at the sky and took a deep breath while asking the
moon goddess to bless him. It is said that the Lycans were direct
descendants of the goddess and still shared a connection with her. Luca
was yet to understand this but all he cared about right now was finding
the white wolf that consumed his being ever since his first shift.
âLuca, Dinner is ready!â Nancy called from downstairs. Luca took a deep
breath and smiled to himself as he instantly presented himself to the
dinner table. âShow off!â muttered Soccorah, Nancy's half breed
daughter. Soccorah was half wolf like Nancy and half Fay. An
abomination as some would call her. But to those who knew her she
was the sweetest young lady ever and she had the looks to go along
with it. She was not as magical as her Fay father as she grew up in the
human world with her mother. She growled at him as her eyes changed
to its pink color. She could not shift but she inherited her mother's
strength and ability to speak with her inner wolf.
âYou're gonna have to not use your abilities while you're here. Allow
yourself to be human in order to fit in and not rouse suspicion Luca as
difficult as this may sound.â Nancy advised. She was very worried about
Luca's presence as she knew how special he was. âNance, you worry too
much. I know why I'm here and believe me I'm going to make the best
of it and won't risk exposing our kind. This is great! What is this?
Chicken?â
Nancy smiled and addressed the matter at hand. âYou've turned 17 and
have had your first shift. It is time to choose a mate. Your hormones
must be raging right now as the wolf inside you grows impatient. I
worry about you here in the human world. The human girls are frail and
won't be able to handle you. I beg you to reconsider this college thing.â
Luca laughed and said âIf the human girls can't handle me then
Soccorah will keep them at bay. She will accompany me tomorrow,
right?â âWasn't that the arrangement?â Luca asked. âWhat
arrangement? Am I missing something here?â Soccorah asked.
âWell Lucasâ father and I agreed that given the fact that he is an alpha
that it would be best if u attach yourself to him to keep the humans at a
safe distance given the fact that they won't be able to resist him.â
Nancy explained. âI don't have a problem with that but what donât you
think that this is a bit extreme? Luca should be able to take care of
himself being the next alfa of his pack and all, shouldn't he be able to
handle a few horny girls?â she laughed. Maybe he can just run away
from them she laughed while punching him on the shoulder. âVery
funnyâ he groaned. âHope you don't get too jealous when I start
getting all the attention.â
âOK you two; Enough! Finish up your supper and off to bed, tomorrow
is a big day.â Nancy demanded. That night as Luca lay down to sleep,
he stared out at the night sky and the thought of the beautiful white
wolf consumed him and he fell into dreamland where his dreams were
only of her.
Luca didn't quite understand what the rush was about getting a mate.
He knew that it would take some time before that actually happened.
He knew of some werewolves and Lycans who went through their
whole lives without finding their mates and lived normal lives like
humans did. That deep connection that he'd heard so much about had
not been experienced by them. If he didnât find a mate it wouldn't be so
bad. He had she wolves bending over backwards for him. All the young
and available she wolves of his pack were at his feet. All he had to do
was ask and they would present themselves to him. It did help that he
was going to be the next Alpha when his father stepped down and that
he was filthy rich.
Everyone wanted to be his mate, but a mate was something else. It was
not like simply feeling attracted to someone and wanting to be with
them it was so much more than that. It was a gift or curse bestowed
onto werewolves by the goddess herself. Finding oneâs mate is the
most important milestones in a wolf's life.
One wolf found his mate by looking into her eyes; Another was found
after they bumped into each other accidentally. Some go through their
whole lives not finding their mates as oneâs mate is not always found
within oneâs pack. That is one of the reasons that his father started the
annual mixer with the nearby packs. A week-long activity where the full
moon pack hosts young men and women who become of age within
that year.
The mixer has proved to be a great help and several of the pack
members had found mates in this way however it is more difficult for
those whose mates belong to other species like humans or witches or
fairies, vampires or sworn enemies.
The chances of him finding a mate this year was highly unlikely and he
chose not to worry himself too much about that even though he had
promised his dad he would choose a mate at the end of the school
year. He had enough girls to keep him distracted and satisfied. It was a
bit more difficult as he was a Lycan and so much stronger than a typical
ware wolf making it difficult to have intercourse with humans. It was
dangerous as he could seriously hurt them. It would be a task.
