Hayes' forehead leaned against the cool window so she could lazily gaze out as the neighborhoods passed by. Tiredness was slowly setting in from a draining day. How could one day range from the lowest of the lows to the highest of the highs? What happened to just a mediocre Monday? If tomorrow could be the boringest day on earth, she'd appreciate it very much so.
In a rare change of events, she won 'shot gun' today. The rare part being that her brothers allowed her to remain in the seat and not toss her into the back row like a rag doll.
Maybe they were finally maturing into the young men Austin empowered them to be.
Or maybe, just maybe, Francis pitied her because of the doctor's appointment. When he saw her at school, he immediately made a face at the sight of her band-aid. Apparently he wasn't a fan of needles either.
Anyhow, she didn't want to think about that anymore.
It was probably the latter choice for why she remained in the front, good ole pity for the baby siblings. Hayes didn't like pity. Made her feel more weak than she already felt on her own.
How was she suppose to thrive when no one even believed she would survive?
Hayes let out a tiny sigh, her breath creating condensation on the window. The AC was running cold, which felt incredible after a taxing practice. Honestly, she could take a nap right now.
Mutterings from the back row reached her ears. If she tilted her head at just the perfect angle, she could see her brothers' reflection from behind her. Glen didn't look happy. He hadn't looked happy all day, to be fair. Not even Abe nor Theo could cheer the boy up, and they were as much a clown as Francis was.
"Stop it."
"I'm not doing anything."
"You're freaking touching me. Stop." A slap sounded as Glen smacked Francis' hand away from his body.
"Knock it off, we're almost home." Colton eyed the boys in the rear view mirror while Hayes turned around in her seat to watch this play out. Free entertainment and she wasn't the one who'd be in trouble.
What really caught her attention was Glen speaking. He hadn't said much to her the whole day. To be fair, he did ask her about how her first practice with the team went, but Hayes wanted to save it for dinner so she only had to talk once. Really though, she just wanted someone to actually be excited to talk to her. Obviously Glen was not that, as he simply dropped the subject.
As she looked at him now, he seemed sad and tired. The sadness scared her.
"Baby bro, there's this thing called space and look, it's right there."
"Don't touch me," Glen grumbled pushing Francis' hand away again.
"I'm not touching you,
"I'm not touching you,
"I'm not touching you,
"I'm not touching you," Francis sounded like a broken parrot. Now she wanted to slap him, too.
"Jesus Francis, leave me the hell alone!" Glen's patience had run dry.
Hayes' lips twisted to the side. Was Glen broken?
"Francis," Colton glared at him through the mirror.
"I didn't do anything," Francis denied, "Smiley is just grumpy." He was only trying to cheer his little brother up.
"So fucking annoying," Glen huffed under his breath.
Francis gasped at Glen as Colton pulled into the driveway. "Baby brother, we don't speak that way."
"Everyone out," Colton stated, turning off the car.
Nobody had to tell Glen twice.
He was out the door and disappeared into the garage before Hayes even unbuckled her seatbelt.
"What's wrong with him?" Francis asked, the hyperactivity suddenly drained from him.
Colton sighed, "He just had a long day, Fran. He'll be okay."
It was obvious Francis had something else to add, but Colton nodded his head to exit the car. A private conversation not meant for small ears.
Hayes remained in the car. She could hear broken pieces of them talking outside. Her curiosity hadn't killed her thus far.
It went a little like this:
"... You see what I see?"
"Yes, we're watching..."
"Reminds me of Kota..."
"I know."
"... lose him."
Hayes caught a glimpse of Colton and Francis hugging before Colton patted Francis on the back and sent him inside. Her car door was opened and Colton leaned down to meet her eyes.
"Let's go, Sunshine. Don't need you smelling up my car with your stink." A playful grin was on his face as he stepped back to give her room.
"The pot calling the kettle black! You guys smell worse than me." Shaking off her eavesdropping, Hayes jumped out of the car and grabbed her bags. "Y'all stinky pigs belong in the barn."
Colton barked out a laugh, closing the car door behind her. "Nice to know you think of us as pigs, little sister."
"Go roll in some mud," Hayes stuck her tongue out at him.
"That's real nice." Hayes caught the mischievous glint in his eyes and immediately took off running. "Yeah, you better run!" He shouted before chasing after her. She managed to lock the door behind her, buying some precious time as now Colton had to find his keys.
"Austin!" Hayes dropped her bags by the stairs as she made a beeline to the kitchen to find her refuge, "Austin, Austin, Colton's being a butt face!"
Hayes skidded to a stop in the middle of the kitchen. Austin wasn't there, but Dakota was. He looked slightly out of place as he manned the stovetop. She couldn't remember ever seeing him cook before. He didn't even make his own sandwiches, so why was he using the advanced skill of the stove?
"What are you doing?" The words slipped out before Hayes could filter herself.
"What's it look like I'm doing?" Dakota retorted, glancing at her from over his shoulder.
"Umm cooking?" Hayes replied before suddenly breaking out in laughter. Colton caught her and gave no mercy as he started tickling her.
Dakota raised his eyebrows looking very unamused. The house had been oh so beautifully quiet just a moment ago. "Dial the fuck down, will you?"
"Yeah Hayes, inside voice," Colton teased, unbothered by grumpy Dakota.
"Shut up piggy," Hayes couldn't break free from Colton's grip so she did the smart thing. Become dead weight.
"What the fuck?"
"Ow, stupid piggy you dropped me." The laughter kept bubbling out of her as she now sat on the floor. She had slipped right through his hands and landed on her butt. Colton rolled his eyes as he bent down and picked her back up from under her armpits so she stood on her own two feet.
"Austin's in his room," Dakota mentioned to Hayes, full of his daily dose of Sunshine for the moment. She sure was an oddball.
"Oh thanks!" Hayes shot him a grin. Feeling re-energized, she bounced over to Dakota and surprised him with a quick hug before running out of the room.
"No running!" Colton pointlessly called after her. She was already gone.
Hayes ignored him like any little sister would do and scrambled up the stairs. Veering right at the top, she spotted Austin's door. It was a smidge left open, so she didn't bother knocking. Just full on barged right in.
Something thankfully prevented the door from banging against the wall otherwise Hayes would have been in trouble. Glancing down behind the door, she spotted a black duffel bag that was partially filled with clothes.
The smile dropped from her face. Austin was leaving?
Her eyes trailed across the room, instantly brightening again when she saw Austin. He was standing by his dresser, in the midst of searching for a T-shirt to wear. His eyebrows were raised in surprise at her sudden entrance. Lost in his thoughts and preparation, he hadn't even heard his siblings arrive home.
"Austin," Hayes skipped over to him, gracing him with a hug.
No matter the mood he was in, she could always put a smile on his face.
"Hey there, Sunshine," one hand laid on her back, the other held her head.
"Hi," she grinned up at him, her eyes flickering to the colorful bruise on his chest, right next to his tattoo. "Oh heck. Did I do that?" She freed her hand, her inquisitive finger going to poke the tender bruise.
Austin's hand gently grasped hers, giving it a squeeze. "Didn't anyone tell you it's rude to touch someone's bruise?"
"No, I don't think so," It wasn't sarcasm. Hayes used her other hand to touch it but Austin grabbed that one too. "Glen and me used to do it all the time when we were annoyed at each other but still had to be in the same room. We called it sneak-attack." Austin watched her eyes widen when she realized she shared too much. "You didn't hear that."
Emotions swam in Austin's eyes, from sadness to pain. "Didn't hear what?" He replied, forcing a closed lip smile. The fact that someone hurt you multiple times, enough to cause even one bruise?
Hayes nodded in appreciation, dancing a couple steps back when Austin dropped her hands. "Sorry," she apologized once more, feeling even worse now that she saw the bruise. She broke one of his sacred rules. She hurt her brother.
"Stop apologizing, Sunshine," Austin pulled his shirt on, the bruise hidden now. "It happened, it's over with. I already forgave you, remember?"
"Okay," Hayes glanced around the room, her eyes landing back on the duffle bag. "Are you going on a trip?" She looked back at Austin with a frown.
Austin sighed and ran a hand through his hair. "Yeah, baby..."
"Where are you going?" She cut him off. "Why? How long will you be gone for? Can I come?"
"To go see Emerson. Come on, let's find your other brothers."
"Emerson? Is he okay?" Hayes mind jumped from worse scenario to worsening.
Austin clasped Hayes' shoulder, guiding her out of the room.
"Did something happen? Did he get in a fight? Are you going to pick him up from jail?"
"What?" Austin quirked an eyebrow at her imagination.
"That's what happens in the old movies," Hayes shrugged. "Can I come?" She tried again.
"No, not this time," Austin knocked once before opening Glen's and Francis' door.
"Ew," Hayes wrinkled her nose at the sight. Glen was still dressed from practice, lying face down on his bed whereas Francis was standing in his boxers, about to take a shower.
She wasn't actually bothered by the nudity considering she spent the last several years sharing a room with Glen. It was just the instinctual sister response.
Austin chuckled as his hand moved to cover her eyes.
"Hey, can you both come downstairs for a minute?"
"I was just going to shower," Francis pointed to the bathroom where they could hear the water was already running. "You know, scrub a dub dub."
"It'll be quick." Austin said.
"Fine," Francis grumbled, pulling back on his discarded gym shorts. He ducked into their master bathroom to turn off the shower.
"Glen buddy, that means you too." Austin pulled Hayes to the side, allowing Francis to pass by them.
Letting out a groan that would make a old man proud, Glen slowly got out of bed. Dragging his feet, he left the room to go downstairs.
"Wait," Hayes whispered. She watched Glen turn the corner at the staircase before tugging on his shirt to get just attention.
Austin glanced down at her. "What's up, buttercup?"
Her mouth opened and closed as she tried to formulate words. Nothing wanted to come out
After a moment, Austin took Hayes' hand and began to lead her down the hall to the stairs.
"Wait, wait," Hayes tried again, hurrying in front of Austin to stop him. "Something is bothering Glen. Like seriously bothering him." Hayes said quietly. "He scaring me."
"I'll talk to him," Austin lifted their hands and brushed her cheek with the back of his fingers. "Thank you for telling me." It was already on his radar. Unfortunately, it would have to wait until after this impromptu trip.
Hayes bit her lip as she reminded herself that it was the right call to tell someone. She may not be able to help Glen but maybe Austin could.
"Anything else?" Austin asked gently.
Hayes shook her head.
"Okay, I love you, you know." Austin leaned down and kissed her head.
"I know," her eyes twinkled, "I love me, too."
Austin laughed at her unexpected reply. "Oh my sweet Sunshine," he chuckled, "what am I going to do with you?" Hands still laced together, he walked down the stairs, bringing her along right behind him.
"Take me with you," Hayes said, the grin on her face dropping as soon as they entered the kitchen. Dakota was still placed at the stove, making sure the pasta didn't burn. The rest of the brothers scattered around, waiting for Austin.
Hayes glanced around deciding where to stand before she smelt yumminess. Meatballs!
She let go of Austin's hand and meandered over to Dakota. He watched her with narrowed eyes but didn't stop her from taking a meatball and shoving it in her mouth. Hayes grinned up at him like the little lady she was, letting him see the meatball mess as she chewed.
"Fucking gross," Dakota said, pushing her head to the side, away from him.
"Listen up," Austin called the kitchen to order. Hayes turned around to face him, leaning against the counter just like Dakota, their arms knocking together.
Austin held everyone's attention. Only Dakota had an idea of what was going on since Austin had to give Dakota a good reason on why he should make dinner.
"There was a freak accident at Emerson's practice today and he got hurt," Austin said.
Hayes stiffened and subconsciously moved closer to Dakota. His hand found hers, providing comfort to both of them.
"Is he okay?" Colton asked.
"He will be. Missed a pop-up and it got him in the eye. I'm going to drive up there as soon as we're done. The hospital is keeping him over night for observation."
"I'm coming," Francis stood up straight, "just give me 5 minutes and I'll be ready."
Austin shook his head, "I need you to stay here."
"Emerson's hurt! You can't just stop me."
"Hey. I know you're worried. I do. But I need you here." Austin said sternly. "You have school." And he wanted an extra set of eyes on the kids.
"Screw school. He's our brother."
"You're not coming. End of discussion." They had a glaring contest until Francis backed down. Yes they were brothers but Austin was also his guardian and he respected him.
Colton put a firm hand on Francis' shoulder, telling him to cool it.
"What's your plan?" Colton asked. He was calm, cool, and collected as always, just like a cucumber.
"Once I can see for myself what's going on, we'll go from there. He sounded in good spirits when I talked to him on the phone but that's Sonny-go-lucky."
"Will you come back home?" Glen asked. Hayes' eyes went wide, she didn't even think about that.
"The fuck kind of question is that? Of course he's coming back." Dakota scoffed.
"It was just a question," Glen snarled back. Somebody was still all out of sorts with his mood.
"Stop it, both of you." Austin rubbed the side of his face. "I'll be back in three days max."
"With Em, right? You're not going to leave him there are you?" Francis asked. Emerson was his best friend and he'd be darn if he didn't see him.
"I'll see when I get there. But most likely, yes. He'll be coming with me." Austin replied. Glancing around for anymore questions but hearing none, Austin clapped his hands. "Okay if there's nothing else I'm going to hit the road before it gets too late. Colton's in charge, listen to him. Call me at anytime, I have my phone." He looked at Hayes and Glen, hating that he had to leave them. It was a double whammy since Baker also left today. But they'd be fine. Colton, Dakota and Francis were here. Peyton was down the road. Everything would be just fine.
LOL.
ââââ
Dinner was quieter than usual without Austin inquiring about everyone's day. Dakota didn't like it, felt unnatural.
"How'd the doctor shit go today?"
"Like shit," Hayes replied cheekily, stabbing the pasta with her fork and putting it in her mouth.
"Good job, Kota. Now our sister talks just like you." Colton sarcastically remarked.
"How dare you corrupt our little Sissy," Francis leaned forward and narrowed his eyes at Dakota.
Dakota rolled his eyes and half-heartedly nudged her with his elbow, "Bad Sunshine. Don't curse."
Hayes laughed as her eyes flickered to Glen. Now would of been the time where he'd make some smart remark about her already having a sailor's mouth or something like that to make her flushed. But nothing. He just sullenly ate his pasta.
Hayes kicked his foot, making him look up. "How was practice without me?" She asked, "Did you miss me?"
Glen stared at her, reading past her calm composure. He could see the concern in her eyes for him. She'd figure him out sooner or later because they knew each other like the back of their hand.
But he didn't want his brothers to keep scrutinizing him so he did the brotherly thing and threw her back under the bus. "You mean did Abraham miss you?" He teased, drawling out Abe's name.
Bull's eye.
Hayes' cheeks reddened making Glen laugh in return. Glen knew she didn't actually have a crush on the boy, still in the 'boys are absolutely disgusting' phase of life, but Hayes was too easy to fluster.
He eyed her closely, or maybe she did have a little crushy starting.
"Oooh, who's Abraham?" Francis poked her red cheek.
"No one," Hayes slapped his hand away.
"Doesn't sound like no one," Dakota teased, poking her other cheek. He couldn't resist tormenting his siblings.
"He's a sophomore on my team," Colton answered, sparing Hayes. "Nice boy, too. I like his parents, they sponsored part of our funds for the summer tournament."
"So you like their money," Dakota called his bluff.
Colton flipped him off, shaking his head. "No, I actually like the family."
"You're giving your approval for Hayes to date?" Francis' jaw dropped, "wow one hour in charge and you're already giving Hayes away. Wait until Austin hears about this."
"Fucking idiot," Dakota snickered at his dramatics.
"Stop," Hayes whined, "I don't like him."
"Well I don't know about you Sunshine, but Dakota and I weren't born yesterday," Colton teased.
"Hey!" Francis objected.
"And it kinda sounds like you do in fact like this boy." Colton continued.
"Shut up," Hayes covered her face, hiding her cheeks.
"Who is he?" Francis asked.
"He's Glen's friend, therefore he's my friend. And he's Johnna's twin brother, who you've met already. Okay?" Hayes was exasperated. "Thanks a lot, Glennard."
"Don't mention it." He grinned at her.
"Aww we're just messing with you, Sissy," Francis wrapped his arm around her shoulder and pulled her annoyingly close to his body.
"Let go," she whined, stuck in his hold.
"Shh shh, dear child." Francis pet her head like a dog. If he wasn't careful, he was going to get an elbow to the gut.
"Alright, let the girl go, Fran. She needs to finish her dinner." Colton finally felt the need to intervene. Yeah, let's leave him in charge, Hayes thought bitterly.
Freed from Francis, Hayes didn't hesitate to hop up and change her seat to the open spot next to Glen. Magically, her plate followed her over there too.
"Eat," Colton ordered her.
Silence fell over the table as they all returned to finishing their meals. Her brothers had a second helping of pasta while she stole all the remaining meatballs.
"Hey Cole," Francis spoke up, a whole lot more serious than he had been, "Em will recover, right? He'll be able to play baseball again?"
Somehow Emerson was left alone in the hospital room for a hot moment so he FaceTimed Francis to show off his black eye. He was high on pain killers making him even more loopy than usual. It looked pretty nasty and probably hurt like no tomorrow.
"Of course, it is Sonny after all. He'll bounce back in no time."
ââââ
"You awake?"
"No."
"Could of fooled me," Glen joked, joining Hayes under the covers. "Jeez why are your feet always so cold?"
"I'm cold blooded."
"Ice in your veins?"
"Yes."
Glen snorted.
"May I help you?" Hayes turned on her side to look at Glen.
Yes, I had a nightmare and ran to you for comfort like the pathetic brother I am.
Glen shivered, almost as if he was still in his nightmare. The worst part, was how realistic it felt. He could imagine her cold skinny fingers gripping his arm tight.
Turning his head to the side, he double-, no triple- checked that Hayes couldn't be seen. She was safe.
"Move it, you troublesome boy." mother yanked his arm, forcing him to sit on the couch.
"No, please, I'm sorry! I had a nightmare, I didn't mean to wake you." Glen begged. She was too strong for the 7 year old.
"Mommy doesn't like liars," she hissed, slapping his cheek with her other hand, "I know it was Hayes. Now stay here while I go find my darling daughter."
"No! I'll do it, I'll do it." Glen jumped up only to be pushed back down. As long as the attention remained on him, Hayes would be untouched.
"That's my boy," she cooed, making Glen flinch. "I love mommy-son bonding time." That made one of them. "Give me your arm."
Glen did as told, closing his eyes tight so he didn't have to watch. He'd seen it one too many times.
But if he got through this, then they'd be safe the rest of the night. Mother would be so high she wouldn't even remember she had kids.
Cold fingers touched his skin.
So cold.
He shivered.
"Glen." Hayes shook his shoulder, "Mom isn't here, Glen, its just me. Hayes." She frowned, unable to shake him from his thoughts. "Austin's not here, what do I do? what do I do?" she glanced around the room that was lit up by her nightlight. Austin bought it for her after her last nightmare.
"Oh what the heck," Hayes mumbled, giving Glen one more shake. When he didn't open his eyes, she knew she had to resort to something more.
"Ow," he groaned, rubbing his forehead. She flicked him.
They stared at each other, Hayes' furrowed brow leaving a wrinkle on her own forehead.
"You had a nightmare tonight." she stated.
He nodded once.
"Ice cream makes me feel better after my nightmares." Hayes said, "But don't tell Austin that."
"He already knows," Glen chuckled weakly. Hayes opened her mouth to question who spilled the tea before remembering it was Austin. Her eldest brother knew everything.
"I want to hear how your practice went." Glen not-so-subtly changed the subject.
"Oh, that" Hayes muttered, laying down flat on her back again. She had planned to tell everyone at dinner, but then Austin's departure threw her for a loop and no one brought it up so she just kept it to herself.
"Come on, pleaseeee, tell me all about it." He poked her arm repetitively.
A smile took over her face. "It was awesome."
"Yeah?" Glen asked excitedly. He sat up, making her sit up as well.
"Yeah. It went really well for the most part. In the beginning it was weird because the basketball is so much lighter than what I'm used too since we play with the men's ball, but once I played around with it, everything became muscle memory." She couldn't stop talking. "And the girls are good. Like if Patrick was a girl, that's how good they are. Coach was telling me about how last year they got the closest they've ever been to states and this year he plans to go all the way. Apparently they only lost one player this year since they graduated and he was so happy that I decided to try out. Said I was the perfect fit. Me, little wimpy Hayes who hadn't played on a team ever in her life."
Glen smiled, he hadn't heard his sister this excited probably ever.
"And you want to know the best part?" Hayes was practically bouncing in her seat.
"What?"
She held up a hand telling him to wait and jumped off the bed to find her sports bag. She dug through it for a second before pulling out something and held it in the air for Glen to see.
"Is that what I think it is?"
"Uh huh!" Hayes climbed back into the bed.
"You made the team."
"I made the team," Hayes giggled, dropping the jersey on his lap.
"Hay Hay this is amazing!" He punched her arm, before hugging her. Some may call it a tackle. Off balance, they toppled to the floor. Worried that they might have woken up their brothers, they froze, listening for any sounds.
Hearing none, Hayes groaned and returned a punch to Glen's arm. "Get off of me. And seriously, lay off the chips."
"I can't help it, they are just so good. The Bear was really holding out on us," Glen laughed, pushing himself up. Standing up, he reached a hand down and pulled Hayes up. "I really am happy for you."
"Thanks G." She grinned at him, happy to have made him laugh as well. It was a sight she didn't think she'd see anytime soon. But now she was certain that this morning was officially just a blip in the road.
Stupid doctors.
"I have something to tell you now," Glen's eyes mirrored Hayes' happiness. So childlike, so free.
"What?"
"My jersey is in my bag."
"Shut up," Hayes gasped, "and you weren't going to tell me?" She punched his arm again. "So rude."
"I wasn't in a good mood." Glen rolled his eyes at her, "and I'm telling you now. You're the first to know, besides Colton obviously."
"Obviously," Hayes replied, punching him for a third time.
"Hey, stop punching me, you brute." he punched her back. A lot of love flying around.
"You deserve it." Hayes retorted, "you had me worried all day," she spoke quieter.
Glen took a breathe in and out. "Sorry about that." He hugged his sister, who he should be worrying about. Not the other way around.
"It's okay. A little worrying never hurt anyone." She laughed, "Us against the world, right G?"
He laid his chin on top of her head, closing his eyes. "Always Hay Hay. Us against the world."
ââââ
"Soooo, did y'all celebrate last night?" Abe asked, sitting down next to Glen in the cafeteria.
"Celebrate?" Hayes questioned, squinting at Glen. What did he do?
"Yeah, because you both made the team and you apparently didn't want people to know so I'll just shut up now." Abe ducked his head to avoid Glen's glare. "Yum, pizza." He took a bite out of the slice.
Glen rolled his eyes before looking at Hayes. She had a scowl on her face and it was aimed right at him.
"You made the team and you didn't tell me?" Johnna gasped, "as your best friend, I feel betrayed."
"I didn't tell anyone," Hayes replied, eyes not leaving Glen. Besides him.
"Wait, anyone? You didn't tell your brothers? I figured they'd be the first people you tell." Johnna said, popping a grape into her mouth. "Hell, shout it from the roof tops baby."
"Sibling drama," Glen said, "didn't get a chance to."
"Yuck. That sucks dude." Abe sympathized. "JP brings all the drama in our family, so I know how it can get."
"Ha ha," Johnna threw a grape at Abe's face. "We all know you're the drama queen, you big baby. 'Ow, I stubbed my toe.' or 'Ow, this hot coffee is too hot.'"
Hayes snorted at Johnna's terrible attempt to mock Abe's voice. "Yeah, something like that." Hayes agreed.
Someone's phone started vibrating, shaking the whole table. Glen frowned, it was his phone. Picking it up, he unlocked it to read the incoming messages.
Abe and Johnna continued to bicker back and forth but Hayes tuned them out. She was completely focused on Glen, trying to decipher his facial expressions. She had forgotten her phone at home, aka Austin wasn't there to physically place it in her backpack, so now her only source for updates on how Emerson was doing was from Glen and Francis.
"Is it Austin?" Hayes asked.
Glen shook his head, unable to find words. He had been completely blindsided by these messages.
"Who is it?" Hayes was curious.
"I can't believe it," he muttered, clicking on the link.
Too nosy for her own good, Hayes tried to lean across the table to read his phone upside down. Her hands were propped on the table with her upper body hovering over their lunches. Her ponytail dangled in the way, blocking Glen's view so he pushed her away.
"What does Lewis want?" She asked, sitting back in her seat properly. She managed to read his name as the messenger.
Glen dropped his phone on the table as he ran his hands through his hair, before gripping his own shoulders. Oh God, this stressed him out.
Hayes took this opportunity to grab his phone, seeing for herself what just spooked Glen. The article was still pulled up, making it easy for Hayes to snoop.
"What's that?" Johnna asked, looking over Hayes' shoulder. She was just as curious as Hayes was.
Oh holy fudge on a stick.
Hayes probably looked like a deer caught in headlights, her eyes darting to Glen's in a panic.
"Who is Vince Merling?"
Their grandfather was arrested.
