I am utterly confused. I mean, I bump into a guy's chest and now everything is changing. Jordan and his friends have been sitting with us every day at lunch. It's the same thing every day. I'm quiet and he'll start a conversation to get me to talk and then I end up blushing like an idiot.
Jordan is hot. I mean everything about him draws you in. His brown hair to his blue eyes to his pink lips that look so kissable, but I have my guard up. Guys like him don't talk to girls like me. We have gone to the same school for years and never once has he talked to me.
"Penny for your thoughts?" He asks with a smirk, breaking me from my thoughts. I have a banana in my hand, but it's obvious I'm not going to eat it with all of these thoughts running through my mind.
"I'm sorry. I'm just wondering why you're over here." I say. He seems taken aback by what I said and I quickly correct myself.
"I mean, I don't mind you being over here, it's just that you never talked to me before. It kind of makes me wonder why you're over here." Honesty is the best policy right now. I want us to be honest with each other so that neither one of us gets the wrong idea.
I expect him to be upset or mad at me for questioning why he is over here, but instead he lets out a small laugh. I mean any girl would want Jordan over here, no questions asked, but I'm not a normal girl. That's why I've never have had a boyfriend or been kissed.
"I get it. I would be wondering the same thing. It's just that, when I bumped into you it was something about you that made me want to get to know you." He smiles, looking sincere.
I blush. "I barely talk to you. You literally have to start the conversation every day with me. I'm not that interesting." I say, giving him a way out now.
He places his hand on top of mine, causing my heart rate to increase. I'm sure my eyes are about to pop out of my head. He's touching my hand. His hands are rough yet soft at the same time. Does that even make sense?
"Hey, I don't think that for one minute. I think it's pretty cute how shy you are." He looks me in the eyes, giving me a small smile.
He's flirting with me. It's times like this that I wish I knew how to flirt back or the right things to say. I'm sure the girls he has dated are more experienced than I am.
He's still looking at me while I blush like an idiot. I look up at him and he seems to be thinking about something. I don't get to ask because he speaks up before I can.
"Abby, why are you so shy? I mean, you hang around Jake and Alyssa and they're not shy at all. The exact opposite of you." He seems truly intrigued and I wish I could answer his question. For years I've wanted to know why I'm the way I am.
I shrug a little. "Making friends has always been hard for me. I don't exactly fit in with everyone and people know that when they first meet me. They know I'm.I'm... different." I tell him truthfully.
"I like different. It's not good to be like everyone else. You should always be yourself because if you don't, then you'll live an unhappy life." He gives me a small sincere smile and smile in return, happy that someone understands.
"Thanks, Jordan." I run a hand through my hair. Jordan is sweet and I like that, but I feel like there's something I don't know about this guy.
Something is missing. The whole sweet guy thing doesn't fit him. It's like he's hiding a part of himself from me. Almost as if he's trying to impress me or something. In fact, whenever we talk, he always asks stuff about me and never wants to talk about himself.
He clears his throat, breaking me from my thoughts. "So, today is Friday and we're having our first game. I think you should come."
He's inviting me to a game. It's nice of him to offer, but everyone knows I don't go to the games. A big crowd of popular people cheering for our team all around me. Yeah, I would stick out.
"Thanks, but no thanks. I wouldn't really fit in there." He's probably getting tired of me turning him down. I know I would be. I'm not used to this kind of attention though.
"Aw, come on. You'll have Alyssa there with you. It'll be fun, plus I want you there to cheer me on. If I see your face in the crowd, it'll give me an extra boost of confidence." He smiles, showing his perfect teeth.
That smile. I find it harder to turn him down now. That beautiful smile on that beautiful face. How can someone be so beautiful?
He raises an eyebrow, waiting for my new answer. "Fine." I agree.
His smile becomes wider and I mentally applaud myself for causing him to smile.
"Good. After the game, maybe we can hang out. There's this back to school party that everyone is going to and I would really like to take you with me." This boy will be the death of me.
"Are you trying to say I have no social life?" I ask, a playful smile forming on my face.
"Of course not. I just find myself wanting to spend time with you and getting to know you. Plus, I think it's time you break out of your shell. You're not going to have Jake and Alyssa forever. When you go off to college, you're going to have to make new friends." He points out the obvious.
I think about what he just said. He's right. I wouldn't have them forever. If I don't break out of my shell now, when I go off to college, I'm going to be a total loner. It's bad enough I'm a loser, but a loser with no friends is just sad.
"Okay, sure I'll go to the party with you." I tell him. It's funny how this cute guy can get me to agree in a matter of minutes and my friends have been trying for years.
The bell rings and I throw away my food along with Jordan. "See you in class, Abby." He smiles before walking out of the cafeteria.
Alyssa comes up to me with a smile. "So what were you and Jordan talking about?" She asks, leaving the cafeteria along with me.
"I need your help. He wants me to go to the game then after, go to a party with him. I don't know how to dress for this stuff." I panic.
"Calm down. I'll be over at your house after school. You need a game outfit and a party outfit. You can't go to the party with what you had on from the game." She says. I would be perfectly fine doing just that. This is exactly why I need her.
I hug her, "Thank God I have a friend like you."
She laughs and we enter our class together.
*****
School is over with and I'm walking to the parking lot to Alyssa's car. I'm nervous about tonight and I don't even know why. Jordan and I aren't exactly friends. I hate to say it, but it's true. We don't really know anything about each other. I guess tonight determines if we'll continue to hang out.
"Abby, wait up!" I turn around to see Jordan jogging up to me. When he reaches me a smile spreads on his face as well as mine.
"Do I need to pick you up for the party or do you have a ride?" He asks.
I'm glad he asked because if not I would have been stranded on trying to find a ride to the party.
"I'm glad you asked. I need a ride. I don't have a car." I tell him.
He's shocked by this. Why would he be? A lot of kids that can drive don't have cars.
"Did you fail your drivers test or something?" He asks, now walking with me towards Alyssa's car.
"No, I passed it. It's just my dad and I had made this deal my freshman year. He said if I got all A's on my report card all the way up to my senior year, I could have any car that I wanted. Before I can get my dream car though, he has to see my first report card of my senior year then any car I want is mine." I feel like I'm always sharing things with him, but I don't even know his favorite color.
"Wow, that's a pretty cool deal. I mean, that's a lot of hard work to keep your grades up, but the price will be worth it. What car do you want?" He asks.
"I'm not sure yet. I want something simple. Not too flashy." I tell him.
"Right because you don't like to be noticed. Well, I don't know if you have noticed, but all this week you've been getting stared at." He informs me.
I furrow my eyebrows at him before looking around me. Sure enough, people are staring at me. Whispering things like 'yeah that's her' or 'did she just move here'. Now that he mentions it, girls have been staring at me and whispering about me. I thought I had toilet paper on my butt or something.
I look back at Jordan. "Why are they staring at me?" I ask, not liking the attention. I don't think I've done anything to embarrass myself this week.
"I don't have a clue, but hey, I'll catch you later. Coach wants us to stay after school. I'll pick you up around eight thirty for the party." He winks, before jogging back towards the school.
My heart just stopped. Like literally stopped. Jordan makes me feel... special. I like that. No one has ever shown me that much attention and it makes me wonder why he's interested in me. Maybe I'm reading too much into it. For all I know, he could want a simple friendship with me.
A few minutes later, Alyssa meets me at her car. We get in and head for my house. "So do we need to go shopping?" She asks.
I look over at her. "No, I do have some cute things in my closet. There's stuff in there that my mom bought me, but I've never touched. Stuff like you and Virginia wear."
"Why don't you wear that type of stuff? I mean, I don't mind the way you dress now, but why don't you dress more like me?" She asks. I feel like all I get asked lately is questions pertaining to why I don't do this or that.
"Because you have to be confident to dress like you. I'm too shy. I'm afraid of what people would say about me." I admit.
I don't mind telling Alyssa the truth. She knows me better than anyone and probably could figure it out herself. Sometimes she asks me questions just to confirm what she already knows.
"Well, tonight, you're going to knock them dead. I already know what I want to do with you." She grins.
I laugh, "Should I be worried?"
She rolls her eyes. "Anyway, what's going on with you and Jordan?"
I shrug, "Nothing really. I guess he wants to be friends. He's a really nice guy." I smile.
"Just keep an eye on him. He's slept with more girls than an accountant can count and they can count pretty well. I just don't want you to fall for his games. It's okay to be friends with him just draw the line at friends." She gives me a caring smile.
She wouldn't say this if she really didn't think I needed to hear it. I didn't know Jordan was that type of guy. Sure I knew he was a womanizer, but I didn't know he slept with girls like that. I nod my head and she continues to drive to my house.
When we get to my house, we enter the kitchen because we're starving. I didn't eat much at lunch because Jordan makes me so nervous that I can't eat and Alyssa didn't eat because she was too busy talking to Daniel.
I put two hot pockets on a plate and put them in the microwave. I turn around and face Alyssa. "So how are you going to dress me?" I ask.
She shrugs. "According to what's in your closet, but I know for sure you're going to look hot." She smiles.
I laugh at her. "Are you going to the game and party?" I go over to the fridge and grab two waters, handing one to her.
"Of course I am. I'm not going to miss my best friend's first football game and party." She says.
"How do you even act at these things? I'm honestly clueless about all of this. I just want to back out and stay in watching Pretty Little Liars and eating popcorn, trying to figure out who A is." I rant.
"You still haven't caught up with the new season. I would honestly root for you to stay in and get caught up to the new season, but I think you'll enjoy the football game and party more than watching Aria and Ezra making out when that could be you." She smiles.
I scoff at her and look back at the microwave to see it is on three seconds. I quickly run over to it to stop it before it reaches zero and beeps. I stop it right at one second.
"That was a close one." I say, wiping pretend sweat off of my forehead.
Alyssa shakes her head at me. "Why do you do that? It's not like the microwave is going to blow up if it reaches zero."
"That's because my name is James. James Bond." I make a pretend gun with my hand and fingers, pointing them at her.
She laughs at me and I hand her a hot pocket. I get out the ranch and start to dip my hot pocket in it. For about an hour, we watch The Vampire Diaries on Netflix until she tells me it's time to get ready.
I was actually dreading this moment and it seemed to get here so fast. We are in my room now, going through clothes. She's going to pick out an outfit for me and do my hair and makeup before she goes back home and gets ready.
I'm going to call my mom and ask her if I can borrow the Altima for tonight. She picks up on the third ring. "Hey, honey." She greets.
"Hey, mom." I greet back. I don't know how my mom will feel about me going out tonight. I never go out, so I don't know what her reaction will be.
"I'm on my way home now. I was thinking maybe we could go out and eat tonight. Not really in a cooking mood." She rambles.
"Mom, can I borrow the Altima tonight? I want to go to the football game tonight. I would ride with Alyssa, but she has to go back home to get ready and we won't get there in time for kick off if she has to come back and get me." I explain.
I'm waiting for the big fat no that is about to come my way. "Sure, of course. I'm surprised you're going out tonight." She says.
Okay, even my mom knows I don't have a social life. That's sad. Really sad. "Um, thanks mom? Aren't you suppose to give me some speech now?" I ask. I really don't know how these things work. I've been a bubble for most of my life.
She laughs, "If you were Matt, then yeah, but you're Abby. I trust you. You're my daughter, which means I know you. You're not to big on being noticed, honey." She hits the nail right on the head.
Well, then. I officially feel offended. I don't know why because it's the truth. Maybe it's because it's coming from my mother. Tonight, I'm breaking out of my shell. Starting with the way I dress.
"Hey, I'm pulling in right now. I'll see you when I get into the house." My mom hangs up and I throw my phone on my bed.
"Did she say no?" Alyssa asks.
"No, she said yes." I sigh.
She comes over to me and wraps an arm around my shoulder. "Hey, if you don't want to go, then we won't go."
"It's not that. It's just, even my mom thinks I'm a loser. She was even surprised when I told her I was going out. She's not even going to give me the parent speech because she said I was Abby. My name can be used to describe a quiet loser with no social life." I slouch my shoulders and roll my eyes.
"Well, tonight, we're going to break all the opinions people have on you. They won't even recognize you after I'm done with you." She smiles.
"Make me look hot." I smile with a slight chuckle.
She grins, "Oh, I plan on it."
While she's picking out my outfit, I take a shower. When I get out, I wrap a towel around my body.
On my bed, everything is laid out. From my bra and panties to the shoes I'm going to wear. I can't believe she went through my bras and panties.
I look at the lace bra and panties. "This was in the forbidden section. My mom got these for me and I told her I would never wear them and I'm not gonna." I rant.
"Chill out. It's not like anyone is going to see them unless you decide to get your cherry popped tonight. Then it's always good to wear sexy lingerie." She jokes with a slight hint of seriousness.
"No, I don't plan on getting my," I pause, "Cherry popped." I cringe.
"You're going to be a virgin until you get married aren't you?" She asks. Alyssa lost hers when she was a freshman. She didn't even like the guy, but she was drunk and he spat some bullshit about loving her and stuff.
"Maybe. I just haven't found the right guy yet. It's not like guys are throwing themselves at me." I frown a little because I'm really starting to think something is wrong with me.
"Well, after tonight, they will be. You're going to knock them dead." She winks. I laugh at her before taking the clothes back into the bathroom to get dressed.
I put on the outfit and look at myself. It isn't too different from the way I usually dress, but at the same time it is. I'm wearing a red blazer thrown over this white t shirt that is tucked into these ripped jean pants with the bottom of the pants rolled up above my ankle. I'm also wearing my red vans.
I step out of the bathroom and she claps her hands. "You look great. God, I wish I had half the stuff in your closet. I was having a field day with putting together your outfits. Now I didn't want to go all out for the football game because no one is really going to be looking at you, so when we get back from the game I'll really get you looking hot." She explains and I nod my head.
"Okay, I'm going to get going so I can get ready. See you at the game." She hugs me before leaving.
I should have asked her what should I do with my hair. I decide to leave it down with a middle part in my hair. As for the makeup I put on a little mascara and lip gloss. That's as good as I can do.
I walk downstairs and see my mom at the kitchen table on her computer. "Hey, mom." I greet.
She does a double take when she sees me, making me want to hide. "Abby, you look amazing." She gasps.
I kind of expected this reaction from her. Just wait until you see what I'm wearing to the party. I don't even know what I'm wearing, but I know I'm going to look good if this isn't even Alyssa's best.
"Thanks, mom. Could I get a couple of bucks for the game?" I ask.
"Oh, yeah. Can't get into the game without money." She stands up and walks over to her purse that is on the counter.
She walks over to me and hands me two twenties. "Mom, it's only eight dollars to get in the game." I tell her, shocked at the amount she gave me.
She laughs, "The extra cash is just in case you want to have fun after the game. You might want to get something to eat with some friends."
I laugh nervously, "Yeah, um, I'm going to a party after the game. If that's okay with you and dad. Oh my gosh, I forgot to tell dad about going to the game. I should call him." I'm the one rambling now.
My mom grabs my shoulders, shaking me. "Don't worry about your dad. I'll talk to him. As for the party, you can go, but no drinking, getting high, or having sex." I cring when my mom says sex. There's just some things you can't discuss with your parents. No matter how cool they are.
"Okay. Well, I'm just going to head to the game now. I'll be back around seven something to get ready for the party." I tell her.
She nods her head and hands me the key to the Altima. "You wreck it and it will be your dream car for your senior year." My mom warns me.
I gulp and nod my head. She hugs me before pushing me out the door. I get into the car and adjust everything to my liking. It's a newer model, so it starts with a push of a button. I always wanted to say that. I feel like a rapper.
Hi my name is Abby and it rhythms with Tabby. My car starts with a push of a button, yeah get jealous cause that's a big something.
Yeah, my rap career is never going to take off. I start the car and head for the school. I have my phone plugged up to the aux cord and have my music playing. Onerepublic is playing. Their song Say (all I Need) is playing.
"Do you know where your heart is? Do you think you can find it? Or did you trade it for something, somewhere better just to have it?" I sing.
I love Onerepublic. I also love The Fray. I'm such a sucker for boy bands. Yup, I love One Direction, too. Niall will be mine!
"Well, bless my soul. You're a lonely soul. Cause you won't let go, of anything you hold." I sing the whole song until I get to the school.
I park the car and step out. Everyone is buying their ticket to get into the game. I feel nervous without Alyssa right beside me. I go up to the booth and smile nervously at the person. It's just buying a ticket Abby.
"How many tickets?" The girl asks. I recognize her from one of my classes.
"Just one." I tell her.
"Eight dollars." She says. I hand her a twenty and she hands me my ticket and change.
"Hey, do you go to school here?" The girl asks.
My cheeks heat up. I don't look that different. Wait, no one notices me anyway. She would have asked the question even if I wasn't dressed like this.
"Yeah, I do." I tell her before entering through the gate. I hand a person my ticket and they tear it before handing a piece back to me.
I look around the stadium. Each side is packed with fans, screaming. I smile at how crazy everything is. It's definitely not like my regular Friday night. You have the band playing stand tunes and the dance line dancing to the stand tunes. You have the fans dressed in our school color. The cheerleaders and mascot holding a sign for the football players to run through.
"Hey, ma'am. The football players are about to run through. You might want to move out the way." A guy says to me.
I step back a few feet and watch as they put up this rope to block people from getting in the way of the football team. Just like he said, the football team comes running through.
I spot Jake and wave at him. He is number twenty eight. "Hey, Jake!" I yell.
He looks my way and I can tell he's confused as to why I'm here because he stumbles a bit.
I laugh. He sends me a quick wave before following the rest of the team on the field. I don't know what number Jordan is, so I couldn't wave at him. I probably should have asked before the game.
"Looking for prince charming?" I hear someone say. I turn around to see Alyssa. She looks great, but she always does.
I laugh a little. "I don't know what number he is." I admit. She rolls her eyes and laughs at me.
"Number fourteen. Want to get something from the concession stand before we go sit down?" She asks.
I nod my head. We both get in line and she orders a chili dog and a coke. I order chili fries and a Sprite. We pay for our food and head towards the stands. We sit in the middle close to the bottom.
"So, is this all you do at a football game?" I ask.
She nods her head, " Pretty much. You weren't missing out on much. The parties are better." She winks at me.
The game starts and everyone immediately goes into yelling. The cheerleaders begin to cheer and the mascot starts to dance. My eyes stay glued on number fourteen.
I have to admit, he looks good in his football uniform. The football pants. Oh my, the football pants. The way they squeeze his butt. Cue the drool. I lean my head to the side, biting my lip, imagining things that I shouldn't be.
"You're eye raping him again." Alyssa teases, breaking me from my thoughts.
I take a bite of one of my fries. "No, I'm not. I'm watching the whole team." I deny.
"Whatever you say pervert." She shrugs, turning her attention back to the game. I ignore her and continue to watch the game. Well, Jordan.
*****
Our guys blew the other team out. Fifty six to zero. Jordan scored two touchdowns tonight. Whenever he did something good, I stood up and screamed his name which earned a few glares from people around me, but I ignored them.
I got a thrill from cheering and watching the game. It was like I became some mad woman. I literally fussed every time the other team tackled Jordan. I was like 'They can't do that' or 'Can they do that' or 'You guys are sore losers'.
I think I embarrassed Alyssa because she kept her head down the whole time and kept apologizing to people around us. I just wanted to make sure that Jordan knew I was cheering him on.
I'm walking back to the parking lot along with Alyssa. "So you're following me back to my house?" I ask.
She nods her head. "Yeah, I am."
"Abby, wait!" Someone yells. I turn around and see Jordan jogging over to us.
"Hey, Jordan. Congrats on winning the game." I smile.
He's still in his uniform and is still sweating. My thoughts immediately go back to what I was thinking earlier and I start to blush.
"Thanks. I heard you cheering me on. By the way, the other team is supposed to try and tackle me." He teases.
My head falls to the floor, "Yeah, sorry about that. First game and all." I smile shyly.
"Anyways, I was just making sure you were still riding with me to the party." He says.
"Yeah, I am. I'm going to go home and get ready now." I tell him.
He nods his head, "Okay. I'll pick you up at eight thirty. Bye Abby. Bye Alyssa."
"Bye." We turn around and start to walk back towards our cars.
"Oh, Abby." He calls and I turn back around.
"You look really good. Can't wait to see what you wear to the party." He smirks and sends me a wink before turning around and jogging back towards the locker room.
I'm sure I'm smiling ear to ear right now. Jordan just said I looked good. He noticed my effort to look good and he thinks I look good. We turn back around and start walking again.
"You are so into him." Alyssa smirks.
"I know." I sigh, but in a good way.
I get into my car and start it. I head towards my house with Alyssa behind me.
*****
I look at the new outfit I have on. I'm wearing a black crop top that has the word "punk" on it and I'm wearing high waisted white shorts and white converses.
It's amazing how Alyssa can make me look like myself, but at the same time make me look different. I step out of the bathroom and her jaw drops.
"If I was a lesbian, I would so date you." She smiles.
She gestures for me to come sit down in the "hair and makeup" chair as she calls it.
"I'm a little creeped out by your compliment, but thanks." I laugh.
She goes to work on my hair. She is going to give me a fishtail braid. She said my hair should be out of my face so that when she puts on the makeup, you can see my face more.
When she's done with my hair, she starts on my face. She starts putting stuff on my face that I have never even heard of before. When she's done, she lets me look in the mirror. I'm shocked by what I see.
It's me, but it isn't. This girl looks more confident. I feel more confident. I have on this smoky eye shadow. I've seen girls do this on Instagram and I never thought in a million years that I'd be able to pull it off. My eye lashes are thicker than usual and I have on this dark red lipstick.
"Wow, Lyssa. I went from beast to beauty." I tell her while examining my face.
She smacks me on the shoulder. "Stop calling yourself ugly. You were always beautiful. You were just too blind to notice." She gives me a small smile.
I send her a grateful smile, hugging her. The door bell rings and I grab my phone. I put my money in my pocket because I'm not too big on carrying wallets and purses.
My mom sent me a text earlier telling me her and dad went out for dinner, so I don't have to worry about them embarrassing me in front of Jordan. I go downstairs and I open the door. My mouth falls open and I would be embarrassed, but I'm too stunned to care. Is this guy a model?
-----------------------------------------------------------
Next chapter will be the party scene. Alyssa seems suspicious of Jordan. I wonder why?
I wish I had parents like Abby's. They aren't too strict, but at the same time they care. Also this chapter is dedicated to rvmjrm26. Such a cool person and keeps me motivated to write! Thanks.
Don't forget To vote and comment. I love hearing from you guys. Also when I update this chapter the next will be up also because the next one is part two of this one and it would really suck if you had to wait so just keep on reading.
