Chapter 5: 5. Abby

A Jock, A Nerd, and A BetWords: 22069

My mouth dropped open when I saw him. His brown hair was spiked up and out of his face. He was wearing a white t shirt with a dark jean jacket thrown over it. He even had his Ray-Ban glasses hanging from his shirt.

He looked at me and smiled, then his eyes went wide. He didn't try and hide the fact that he was totally checking me out. It made me blush.

"Wow, Abby. You look great." He said, still checking me out. "Thanks." I replied.

"It was all because of me." Alyssa said, coming up behind us. Of course she was going to take credit.

"Hey, Alyssa," Jordan greeted, "Are you coming to the party with us?" He asked her.

She shook her head. "Nope. I'm driving there." She told him. He nodded his head and for a moment it was awkward.

"Okay, well, let's get going." I said. I let Alyssa walk out before me so that I could lock the door. I waved goodbye to her before I got into the car with Jordan.

He started the car and headed to the party. "Do you want me to put on some music?" He asked.

I nodded my head. "Sure. What do you have?" I asked. He pointed towards the glove compartment.

"I have some CDs in there. You choose what you want to listen to." He said. I opened the glove compartment and took out a stack of CDs.

I was going through them when I saw one that I liked. Onerepublic. I think I just fell more in love with this guy. I popped the CD in and skipped to one of my favorite songs on the album.

The song started to play and he looked over at me. "You like Onerepublic?" He asked.

I laughed. "Yeah. Who doesn't? You don't seem like the type of guy to listen to Onerepublic." I said.

"There are a lot of things you don't know about me, Abby. One being that this is my favorite song on the album." He smirks.

"Mine too." I smiled. The song good life was playing. I hope he didn't mind bad singers because I was about to sing my heart out.

"Woke up in London yesterday. Found myself in the city near Piccadilly, don't really know how I got here. I got some pictures on my phone." I sang.

I passed my imaginary microphone over to him and he laughs. "New names and numbers that I don't know. Address to places like Abbey Road. Day turns to night, night turns to whatever we want, we're young enough to say." He sangs the next part.

"Oh, this has gotta be the good life. This has gotta be the good life. This could really be a good life, good life. Say oh, got this feeling that you can't fight. Like this city is on fire tonight. This could really be a good life. A good, good life." We sang and yell at the top of our lungs.

I can't stop laughing and neither can he. His laugh is really adorable and I find myself wishing I could hear more of it. We finally arrive at the party and I start to get nervous.

He parks the car and looks over at me. "You ready?" He asked. I look at the party with a crowd of people outside. If it's packed outside, I can only imagine what it looks like inside.

I look back at him and shake my head no. "Hey, listen. I'll be right there beside you. No one is going to mess with you. I promise." He smiles.

That smile. It's enough to make some of my nerves go away. I sigh. "Okay, let's go." I force a smile on my face.

I step out of the car along with Jordan. He jogged over to me and grabbed my hand. Now my nerves were back, but not because of the party. I blush at his gesture and follow him towards the house.

Everyone's eyes are on Jordan and me. We enter the party and everything is wild. The music is loud, people are dancing, playing games that involve you drinking, and last but not least, people are making out.

Guys are shaking hands with Jordan and greeting him. Girls are coming up to him and flirting with him. I kind of feel jealous that they're stealing his attention away from me.

When we get to a safe spot, he stops walking. "Do you want something to drink?" He asked.

I nodded my head. "Yeah, but no alcohol." I tell him. He nods his head before disappearing to go get our drinks.

A tap on my shoulder causes me to turn around. I see Jake with a huge smile on his face. "Jake." I yell in excitement.

I wrap my arms around him and hug the life out of him. "You know I'm mad at you." He said, playfully.

I narrow my eyebrows. "What did I do?" I asked. I started thinking about anything I could have done to him from after school until now. I came up with nothing.

"I've been trying to get you to come to one of these parties for years. Jordan asks you and you say yes without hesitation." He frowns, pretending to be sad.

We always did this. Whenever Jake got mad at me or I got mad at him, we would frown and the other one would kiss the other one on the cheek and apologize. We have done this since we were little kids.

I kissed him on the cheek. "I'm sorry, Jake. Is all forgiven?" I asked, giving him the puppy dog eyes.

A smile slowly makes its way onto his face. "Yeah, all is forgiven." He laughs. I love Jake. Plenty of people used to think we dated, but we always told them the same thing. We're just friends and we are. I never could see Jake as something more.

"Aye, Jake. Wassup man. Who you got here?" Some guy came up and asked Jake. I recognized him because he hangs out with Jordan and sits with us at lunch, but I never got his name.

Two other guys come up along with him. "This is Abby, Troy. Abby, this is Troy." Jake introduces us.

I reach out my hand to shake his hand, but instead he kisses the back of my hand, causing me to blush. "Nice to meet you, Abby." He smiles.

Jake rolls his eyes. "Alright, Mr. Romantic. These other guys are Ryan and Daniel." He said, pointing to them.

"Nice to meet you, Abby." Daniel smiles. "Pleasure to meet you." Ryan nods. All of their personalities seem to be bottled up in Jordan.

I've seen the romantic flirty side of Jordan that seems to be like Troy. I've seen the kind nice sweet side of Jordan that seems to be like Daniel. I also have seen the closed off not sharing side of him that seems to be like Ryan. I can see why they would be friends.

"It's nice to meet all of you." I said, shyly. Meeting new people isn't exactly my strong suit. These guys all look good which is intimidating.

"What have these guys said about me while I was gone?" Jordan said suddenly, coming up behind me.

I turned to him to see a smirk on his face. He handed me a canned soda and I thanked him for it.

"We haven't said anything about you. Not everyone talks about you while you're gone Jordan. You're not that good looking." Troy said.

I laughed a little and he winked at me. "Whatever, tell that to your mom. She seems to think I'm very attractive." Jordan fired back.

That earned an 'Oooohh' from Daniel, Ryan, and Jake. I continued to laugh. "The only reason why she made cookies for you was because you were sick and you said you were craving them." Troy said.

"That's not the only cookies she gave me." Jordan winked. I laughed harder now. These guys are so funny. Jordan looked down at me and smiled.

"Whatever. If you need me don't call me. I'm going somewhere else." Troy walked off.

"He seems mad. You should go talk to him and I apologize." I said.

"He'll be alright. He knows I'm just joking. Do you want to dance?" He asked.

I shook my head. "No thanks. I don't really dance. Especially to music like this and how people are dancing." I said.

I looked around me. Some Drake song was playing and girls were twerking while guys were behind them, basically dry humping them. Yeah, I will not be dancing tonight.

"Well, we'll wait for a slower song then." Jordan smiled. "Okay." I smiled back.

It's been four songs now and not once has the beat slowed down. In fact, I think it speeds up with each song. I'm standing here drinking my soda while Jordan looks bored out of his mind. I should really put him out of his misery.

"Hey, Jordan." I say. He looks up from his red cup. "Yeah, wassup?" He asked.

"How about you go dance. It's obvious that the music isn't going to slow down any time sooner and you look like you really want to dance. I'll be fine here by myself." I tell him.

"Are you sure?" He asked. He's really considering what I just told him. He's supposed to say 'No way. I'm staying right here with you'.

"Uh, yeah." I manage to say. A smile spreads across his face. "I'll be back after one song." He said before mixing in with the crowd.

I frown a little. He left me. Sure I told him he could leave me, but I thought he would be all nice and say he'd rather be here with me.

I watch as he goes in between two girls. One blonde and one brunette. They dance on him and he's enjoying himself while I want to puke.

It's been five songs now and he's still out on the dance floor. He said he'd come back after one song. One song! It's been five songs! I walk off pissed, making my way through the swarming bodies to find something to drink.

I run into someone making them spill their drink. "Shit." They curse, looking down at their shirt.

"I'm so sorry." I began to apologize. The guy looks up at me and any anger on his face vanishes when he sees me. In fact, he smiles at me.

"It's okay. I'm Stephen." He holds out his hand for me to shake. "Abby." I shake his hand.

"Are you okay?" He asks. No I'm not. I just want to go home because this party sucks ass. My best friend hasn't even arrived yet and I'm all alone, but I don't say any of that.

Instead I say, "I'm fine. I'm just ready to go, but my rides not ready to go." I tell him.

"Who's your ride?" He asked. "Jordan. Jordan Collins. You might know him." I tell him.

His jaw locks before he forces a smile on his face. "Yeah, I know him. He's on the football team along with me." He tells me.

I nod my head. I look around the party not really knowing what to say next. "Hey, Abby." Stephen says, getting my attention.

"I was just about to leave. I could take you home if you want." He said.

"No offense, but I don't really know you. You could be an axe murderer for all I know." I tell him.

He laughs, "I promise, I'm not one, but if I were a murderer, I would carry a sword instead of an axe." He smiles.

I laugh at him and start to consider the idea. He doesn't seem like a bad guy. "Alright, but let me tell Jordan first." I tell him.

I turn to walk away, but he grabs my wrist. "You don't have to tell him. He looks like he's enjoying himself and if you tell him you're leaving he's going to feel bad and want to leave too." He said.

I looked at Jordan. He did look like he was enjoying himself. I turned back to Stephen. "Okay, let's go." I said.

We walked out of the party together and I followed him to his car. He opened the passenger door for me. I smiled and said thank you. He hopped in and started the car.

"So where do you live?" He asked. "Do you know where Jake lives?" I asked.

He nodded his head. "Right beside him." I tell him. He starts to drive in the direction of my house.

Tonight was a total disaster. Jordan said he wanted to spend time with me, but ditched me the second I told him it was okay for him to leave. I looked over at Stephen and took a moment to really look at him.

He had brown hair that was pushed up and out of his face. It was kind of messy, but in a cute way. He had dreamy brown eyes and pink lips. His jaw line was absolutely perfect. He was really good looking. No doubt about it. How do I keep bumping into good looking guys?

"Hey, Abby. Are you hungry?" He asked. "A little bit. Why?" I asked.

He smiled. "Well, I think you look really beautiful tonight and that would be a waste of an outfit if you go home now. Both you and I can make the most of this night. I know a nice place we can go eat." He said.

I thought about it for a moment. I did get all dressed up for tonight. Might as well make the most of tonight. "Okay." I agreed.

He smiled and started going in the opposite direction of my house. It was quiet for a moment before he broke the silence.

"So, tell me about yourself Abby." He said. His eyes were still on the road, but every now and then he would sneak glances at me.

"Okay. I like to read. No scratch that. I love to read. I love boy bands. I'm pretty athletic, but I don't play sports. I'm really shy." I told him.

"You don't seem shy and why don't you play sports?" I asked. "Because I'm shy and scared of what people might say." I tell him.

"You shouldn't be scared of what people might say about you. People are going to talk regardless. How about I make a deal with you. What's something that you really want?" He asked.

"I've been dying to read this book called 'Don't Die, My Love', but I can't find it anywhere. I could read it on Kindle or something, but I want to be able to hold the book and turn the pages. Not hold my tablet and swipe my fingers." I tell him.

He laughs at me. "How about this. If you try out for a sport, I promise to get that book for you." He smirks.

I think about his offer. I really want that book. "Okay, deal." I said. He smiles at me and we pull into the parking lot of a restaurant called The Grill.

I heard about this place before, but never went. Jake tried to get me to come here plenty of times, but I would never come because all the cool kids would be here.

I stepped out of the car along with Stephen. "Come on. They have really good food here." He smiled.

I smiled back and followed him inside of the restaurant. The waiter introduces himself and guides us to our table. When we sit down he hands us our menu and ask us what do we want to drink.

"Um, I'll have a Sprite." Stephen says. I smile at him. "I'll have the same." I tell the waiter.

It's funny how we both like to drink Sprite. "I'll be right back with your drinks." The waiter says before leaving us.

I look over the menu and my mouth begins to water. "How do you even decide on what to eat?" I asked Stephen.

He laughed. "I still have my moments when I can't decide on what I want." He tells me.

"So what do you recommend?" I asked, looking at him. He gets up and walks over to me and bend down slightly. His face his next to mine and I'm loving the view.

"The chicken piccata with lemon caper sauce is pretty good. I usually get the grill cheeseburger or the grill chicken sandwich." He tells me.

I watch the way his lips move when he talks and I'm in a complete trance. "Abby. Did you hear me?" He asks, breaking me from my trance.

"Yeah, um, I think I'm going to get the grill cheeseburger." I tell him. He smiles at me, "Exactly what I was going to get." He winked at me before returning to his seat.

The waiter came back with our drinks and asked what we would like. We both order the grill cheeseburger with a side of fries.

"So, how did you meet Jordan?" He asked. "Um, exactly the same way I met you." I laugh.

"At a party?" He asked. "No, I bumped into him like I bumped into you. Only difference is I fell on my butt when I met him." I said.

He laughed a little. "Hey, that's not funny." I laugh a long with him. I throw my napkin at him which he skillfully catches.

"I'm sorry. It was kind of funny." He smiled. I rolled my eyes playfully at him before taking a sip of my drink.

"Why were you at that party? You don't exactly look like the partying type." He asks.

"Jordan invited me because he wanted to spend time with me, but he ditched me as soon as I gave him the okay." I told him.

"That sucks, but that should be expected of Jordan. The guy can't stick with one girl longer than ten minutes if that." Stephen tensed. I have a feeling he doesn't like Jordan.

"What do you know about him?" I asked, trying to get information now. The waiter comes back with our food and places it on the table for us.

I eat a couple of fries, waiting for Stephen to answer me. "Well, he's a jerk for one. He's slept with half the school and it would be the whole school if boys didn't attend here. He's cocky and thinks he better than everyone. Him and his friends." You can practically see the steam coming out of Stephen's ears as he talks about Jordan.

I had no idea Jordan was like that. I didn't get that impression of him or his friends. They all seem like really nice people, but it makes sense a little bit. Jordan talking to me all of a sudden. He just wants to get in my pants. I'm pissed and hurt now. I mean, I don't know if that's true or not, but it seems like it is.

"Hey, are you okay. You're about break your glass." He said, pointing to my drink in my hand.

I let go of it and sigh. "I'm pissed because I think I was being used." I tell Stephen.

"You slept with him?" He asked with wide eyes. "No, I didn't, but I think he was only talking to me to get in my pants." I said.

He reaches across the table and places his hand on top of mine. "I'm sorry. I only have known you for one night and I can already tell your an amazing girl. I don't see why anyone would want to hurt or use you." He smiles.

I can tell he means it. "Thanks, Stephen." We continue to eat our food until we're done. We sit there for another fifteen minutes arguing over who should pay for the bill. In the end we split the bill down the middle.

We get in his car and head for my house. On the way to my house, I learn a lot about Stephen. His favorite books are Percy Jackson's book. He likes all type of music. He hates math, but loves English. He wants to go pro in football or be a model. He was joking about being a model, but there's no doubt in my mind that he would make a good model.

He pulls into my driveway and we sit there for a while. "Thanks for taking me out tonight. It started off bad at first, but you made it better." I smile at Stephen.

"No, thank you. I really enjoyed your company. It was really nice getting to know you and stuff. Maybe we can hang out again sometime." He said.

"I would really like that." I smiled. Before I got out he grabbed my wrist. "Could I have your number?" He asked.

I could tell he wasn't sure about asking me for my number which made me smile. I'm not the only one who gets shy. We traded phones and put each others numbers in the phones.

When I got it back, I looked at the name he had put for himself. "That cute guy?" I questioned with a smile on my face. It had the heart eyes emoji along with the winky face and kissy face emoji.

"You're one to talk. Blue eyed girl?" He fires back. "Just so you'll know who I am." I smile.

"I have to admit. You do have some of the most beautiful eyes I have ever seen. I couldn't stop staring at them tonight." He smiled shyly.

My cheeks began to heat up. "Thanks for tonight, Stephen." I smile at him before getting out of his car. He makes sure that I'm inside of my house before leaving.

I check the time on my phone. Eleven thirty one. I also see that I have a ton of messages on my phone. Some from Jake, some from Alyssa, and some from a random number.

I read them and they all say the same thing. Where are you. Are you okay. This isn't funny where are you. We're about to call the cops and report you missing. Oh and the random number was Jordan.

I decide to call Alyssa. She picks up on the third ring. "Where the hell are you?! We've been searching the party for you! I'm about to have a panic attack. I come to the party and I try to find you, but I don't see you. So I ask Jordan and he tells me he hasn't seen you either. Then I ask Jake then he tells me the same thing and we end up trying to find you, but can't so we thought you were kidnapped." She rambles.

Once she has gone silent and I'm sure she's not going to speak anymore, I speak up. "I'm sorry. I left the party because I wasn't really feeling well." I say.

That's a lie and she's going to know it. "That's a lie. You were as healthy as a horse before you left." She said.

See what did I tell you. Best friends know when you're trying to feed them crap. "Anyways, how did you get home. You called your parents to come pick you up?" She asked.

"Uh, no. A guy took me home. He was leaving the party so he offered to take me home." I told her.

"What's his name?" She asked. "Stephen. From the football team." I tell her.

"WHO???!!!?" I hear a bunch of guys say in the background. "Lyssa, am I on speaker phone?" I asked.

"Yeah. I told you we were worried about you so as soon as you called, I answered and put you on speaker phone so the guys could hear you." She said.

"Well, I hate if I told you I kissed him or something like that." I said. There was shuffling in the background before somebody else spoke.

"You kissed him?!" I recognized the voice as Jordan. I'm still mad at him. Very mad at him. I decided I might as well make him just as mad as I am.

"That's none of your business." I tell him. I hear him let out a frustrated sigh.

"Look, if you wanted to leave the party all you had to do was tell me. I would have taken you home." He said.

"I didn't want to ruin your night. You seemed to be having so much fun with those girls you were dancing with." I said.

I hated the way it came out. I sounded like a jealous girlfriend. "Were you jealous, Abby?" I can practically see him smirking.

"Nope. Like I said I didn't want to ruin your fun. Anyways, it's getting late and I'm really tired. I'll talk to you guys later." I say.

"Abby, wait..." I hang up the phone before he gets the chance to say anything else. I'm tired. All I want to do is sleep and forget about tonight. Well, except for the time I spent with Stephen.

My parents are probably sleep so I tip toe up the stairs to my room. I close the door quietly before changing into a big t shirt, that belongs to my brother, and pajama shorts.

I slide into my bed and lay my head down. My phone buzzes and I unlock it to see that I have one message.

From that cute guy

Good night, blue eyes.

I smile at the message before sending him one back.

To that cute guy

Good night, cute guy.

From that cute guy

I'm glad that you're admitting that I'm cute. (;

Even though he can't see me blushing, I'm still blushing like crazy. I totally walked right into that one.

From that cute guy

It's okay because I think you're pretty cute too.

To that cute guy

I'm going to bed now. See you Monday (;

I know what you're thinking. That was pretty lame of me to text that back to him, but like I said, I don't know how to flirt. I closed my eyes and drifted off to sleep, dreaming about two boys with hazel and brown eyes.
