I was restlessly pacing back and forth across our living room. Kyle and the team that went for Logan have been gone nearly an hour and a half, which means they should have arrived. I wanted to know what was going on, if they found Logan or not. Not knowing was going to stress me out.

"Babe, chill," Jackson said. He was sitting down on the couch, clutching a cup of coffee that probably wasn't hot anymore. "You're making me dizzy."

I stopped pacing with a sigh, turning to look at him. It was just the two of us at home right now. Leo would have been here, but something came up with a customer at work, and since he was the manager, he went in. None of us have really been into work all week, too busy trying to do whatever we could to get Logan back. And now Kyle was out there, going to bring him back, and I couldn't shake the feeling that something was wrong.

"You know I worry," I said softly, going over to sit next to him.

He smiled at me, putting an arm around my shoulders. "I know." I was just leaning into his embrace when his phone rang. I pulled back from him so he could grab his phone, then answer it. "Hello?" He was quiet for a few seconds. "We'll be right there."

"Are they back already?" I asked as soon as he hung up. It took an hour to get down there. They shouldn't be back already, so why were we going somewhere? "Where are we going?"

"We're going to the hospital," he said, standing up and heading out of the room. "Come on."

I froze, not yet getting up from the couch. "What? Jackson. What did you just say?"

He stopped in the doorway and faced me. "I don't know what happened, but something did. We can't freak out though. I'm sure he's fine. Everything will be fine."

I repeated his words in my head for the next thirty minutes until we got to the hospital. It's fine. Everything is fine. Don't freak out. Leo was meeting us here as soon as he could. We'll find out what happened in a matter of minutes. It'll be okay.

I gripped Jackson's hand tightly as we walked up to the receptionist. She looked up at us, and, after we asked for Kyle, told us what room he was in.

We headed to the elevator and down the hallway on the third floor. I couldn't stop myself from worrying. We'll find everything out in a second. It'll be okay. Everything will be fine.

We stopped in front of the room and I had Jay go in before me, not wanting to be first, just in case. I don't know what I was expecting, but I've definitely come up with some of the most graphic mental images from my time in medical school. I did not want to see anyone I loved in a condition like that, ever.

The first thing I noticed walking into the room was Kyle lying on the bed, asleep. He didn't look hurt at all, just unconscious. I still rushed to his side, grabbing hold of his hand.

That's when I heard it. The small voice of my son, which filled my heart with a love I didn't know was possible. "Daddy!"

My head snapped towards the corner of the room to see Leo sitting in a chair with Logan on his lap. When had Leo gotten here? And why didn't I notice them sitting there?

Jackson knelt in front of them, pulling Logan into his arms. Leo looked over their heads, giving me a small smile. There were tears in his eyes, but were they good tears or bad tears?

"Do you know anything about his condition?" I asked, lifting Kyle's hand up a bit.

Leo shrugged. "Nothing. I got here maybe two minutes before you."

I nodded. Kyle wasn't bandaged at all and he didn't look too injured, so it shouldn't be too bad. But the fact that he wasn't awake and we had no idea what had happened still worried me to no end.

Letting go of his hand, I walked over to the rest of my family, wanting to hold my son. Jackson was still holding onto him tightly, so I placed my hand on his shoulder, making him look up at me.

"Hey buddy," Jay said to Logan. "Look who else is here."

Logan moved his gaze from Jackson to me, before fear flashed across his face and he quickly tucked his face back into Jay's shoulder, crying.

I instantly knew what happened. I look like Paul. I terrified my own son because I look like his kidnapper. My hand went up to cover my gaping mouth as I rushed out of the room.

I watched Josh run out of the room, looking like he was about to cry. I hated that sick fuck for tearing our family apart. Logan couldn't even look at his own father without being reminded of that bastard.

I quickly got up and hurried out of the room, taking one last glance at Kyle before leaving. There was so much going on right now, I barely even knew what to focus on. No one had told us what happened to Kyle, or what kind of condition he was in. All I knew was that when I came into the room, Logan was sitting in the chair I had just been in, crying quietly while he hugged his legs to his chest. He was probably terrified that his father was laying in a hospital bed - not like he really knew what a hospital was - not waking up.

Out in the hallway, I found Josh, sitting in a single chair in the hallway. Walking over to him, I wrapped my arm around his shoulders, sitting on the arm rest of the chair.

"What are we going to do?" he whispered, maybe to me, maybe to himself.

I answered, even if the question wasn't directed at me. "We're going to work through this." He looked up at me, resting his head against my arm. "I promise, baby. Everything will be alright."

He didn't say anything for a moment, so I took the time to trace my fingers along his cheek. The bruise had faded - thank god - but the memory of it was still there.

"Did anyone tell you anything about what happened to Kyle?" he asked quietly.

I shook my head. "I was told a room number and found them both in there. I was too distracted by my son being back to find a nurse. Does that make me a bad husband? He doesn't look hurt and Logan was sitting there crying."

"It makes you a good dad, definitely," he said with a small smile. "I'm sure Kyle wouldn't mind, especially if he was crying. I honestly think Kyle would be mad at you if you neglected your crying child for him."

I laughed at that. "Yeah, you're probably right." That didn't stop me from thinking things, though. I feel like I haven't been showing the same level of love towards the three of them lately. I do love them, so much. But sometimes life gets in the way of showing it. Especially lately.

"We should go find a nurse," Josh suggested, getting to his feet.

I nodded. Smart idea. That's why he was the smartest out of all of us. He used that brain of his. Unlike me.

I hadn't made an attempt to get up yet, and I realized that when Josh stood in front of me, placing his hands on my arms. "You alright?" he asked.

I nodded again. "I love you, you know that, right?"

He smiled before leaning over to kiss me. "I love you, too." He then grabbed hold of my hand. "Now come on."

I let Josh lead me down the hallway to the nurses station, then stood next to him playing with a cup of pens on the desk as he talked to the nurse that was behind it. "Do you have information on Kyle Hart, in room 317?"

The nurse looked at her computer screen. "Bit of a head wound, nothing major. He should be fine soon."

I breathed a sigh of relief. That sounded like a good thing. He'll be fine.

Josh didn't seem to think the same thing as me though. "Don't bullshit me," he said. My mouth dropped open. I've never heard him speak like that to anyone before. "I'm a doctor. There are no bandages or anything on him. He doesn't look injured at all, so why is he here and unconscious?"

The nurse sighed. "Are you family?"

Josh raised his hand to show her his ring. "I think marrying him constitutes as family, right?"

She nodded slightly before looking at me. She didn't even have to say anything before Josh spoke again. "He's family too. He can hear whatever you have to say."

The nurse took a deep breath. "We honestly don't know what happened. We know that he was hit in the back of the head, but not enough to cause any damage, just knock him out. Brain scans are fine. The only issue is that he's not waking up."

Now I understood. Well, not really, but I could see how Josh picked up on something that I didn't. And I was getting mad. How could she just not tell us that right away? How could they just not know what was wrong with him at all?

And where were the other police officers he was with? Why weren't they here? They could probably get us the story of what happened, then maybe the doctors could figure something out. That's how it works, right?

I couldn't wait there any longer with Josh asking questions with words I had no clue how to even pronounce. So I went back to the room Kyle was in to find that Jackson had taken the chair, Logan curled up on his lap, asleep.

Jay looked up when I entered. "Is he okay?"

I shrugged, going over to sit on the edge of Kyle's bed, by his feet. "He cursed at a nurse. She was trying to lie to us, downplay what's wrong." I then recapped everything I just found out, which really wasn't all that much. I even asked him if he was told anything about where the other officers were.

He just shook his head. "I figured we'd find out what happened when we got here." He started running his fingers through Logan's hair. "We should also call his dad. And Colton. Tell them what we do know."

I nodded. There were so many people that we should call about this. Including the police chief. He should be here right now, explaining to us what happened. If he wasn't going to come to us, then I was just going to have to go to him for answers.
