~Kyle
"Leo, goddammit," I exclaimed, gripping onto the seat. "Slow down, would you? Getting ourselves into an accident won't help us find Logan." Leo doesn't normally drive this erratically, and it was scaring me.
He let out a shaky breath as he slowed the car down and pulled off to the side of the road. "I know," he said softly, resting his head against the steering wheel. "I know. I'm sorry."
I placed my hand on his back. "Are you okay?" I knew he wasn't. None of us were. But I asked anyway, expecting the shake of the head that he gave me. "Do you want me to drive the rest of the way?" We were almost to the police station, where we were headed to try to file a missing persons report. I was really hoping I'd be able to pull some strings to get one filed now considering I worked there, even though we technically would have to wait forty-eight hours before declaring him officially missing.
Leo sat back in the seat and was about to say something when his phone started ringing. He grabbed it and, without even looking at the screen, handing it over to me to answer.
I glanced at the screen before answering. "Alyssa?"
"Kyle? Where are you guys? Are you there at the police station yet?"
"No. Why? Did you find him?" I couldn't help how hopefully my voice sounded. Even Leo looked up at the sound of my voice, mirroring my hopefulness on his face.
Alyssa sighed. "No. But I'm pretty sure I know who took him."
She didn't say any more, so I asked, "Who?" Still, she didn't say anything, although I heard her shaky breaths coming through the phone. "Alyssa, just spit it out. I don't care who it might be. I just need to find my son."
She sighed again. "Paul."
It took me a second to remember who Paul was. "Why? What does he have to do with Logan? You can't just assume that because we've never met him before today that he'll just kidnap Logan!"
"No. Kyle, listen to me. I should have told you guys this as soon as we figured it out. And then when he went missing... I wasn't thinking about it until now." She took a deep breath. "Kyle, Paul and I had sex nearly seven years ago. He was the only one I was with around then; when the twins were conceived."
My breath caught in my throat. "What are you saying?" I didn't want to believe what I just heard. It couldn't possibly be true, could it?
"Paul is their biological father."
~Josh
I breathed in the scent of Jackson as I buried my face into his shoulder. His strong arms held me protectively, and I just wanted to sit here forever, as if nothing was wrong. As if Logan wasn't missing. As if my biological brother didn't father him and Ashley. As if Paul didn't kidnap my son.
"I talked to Kyle," I heard my sister say, probably walking back into the room. I didn't look up at her. "They're mad. Of course they are. I'm so sorry for not telling you guys as soon as I realized."
"Why did you even tell him?" Jay asked.
Alyssa sighed. "I thought he should know that he fathered a couple of kids. But I told him that neither of us had any rights to them - that they legally belonged to you four. I never in a billion years expected him to do something like this."
I sat up suddenly to look at my sister, quite angry. "How can you say that, Lys? You can't have expected him to do anything because you didn't even know him. You had sex with him once and you had no idea who he was then. My brother, Alyssa. How could you sleep with someone who looks way too much like me?"
How can you have sex with someone you don't know, let alone love? I didn't say that question out loud though. I knew we had two different preferences when it came to sex. I've only ever done it with people whom I was absolutely in love with. I don't think Alyssa's really ever been in love, which was a sad thought that I never wanted to bring up with her in fear of her getting defensive on me.
"Have you tried calling him?" Alyssa asked softly, ignoring my questions. "You might be able to reason with him."
I shook my head. "I don't have his number. I never got it."
"What about Suzanne?" Jackson asked. "She's got to have it."
Why didn't I think of that? Maybe because there were too many other things going around my head right now that I couldn't keep anything straight.
"Can you hand me my phone, babe?"
He reached over to the small end table and picked up my phone to give to me. Then, dialing Suzanne's number, I waited a few seconds before her voicemail automatically picked up.
"Hi Suzanne, it's Josh," I started. "Um, I was hoping you could give me Paul's cell phone number. There was a question I needed to ask him, but I never got a chance to get his number from him before he left. Please call me back. It's urgent. Thanks. Bye."
As soon as I hung up, Jackson chuckled. "You're always so polite, even during the worst times. I would have left a lot worse of a message."
"I know you would have. But I can't exactly tell her that her son kidnapped my son through a voicemail."
My voice cracked at the end of my sentence. I didn't want to cry any more tears, but they just kept on coming. Since the moment we determined that Logan was no longer on our property, I've been crying. I just wanted to stop. I wanted Logan home and safe. I wanted Paul out of our lives for good, no matter if he was the brother that I never grew up with or not.
Which brings me back to the question that kept circling my head ever since Alyssa showed up here to tell us about Paul. If someone related to me could do such a thing, what did that say about me? I know there isn't any correlation, but I still couldn't help think these kinds of thoughts. How, if he could do that, what's to stop me from doing something equally bad, if it's in my blood?
Jackson's arms tightened around me again as I leaned into his body. His hand was rubbing circles on my back, which was helping calm me down again. I knew he'd always be there for me, Kyle and Leo too, even though I could have the capabilities to do something just as horrible as Paul did.
"Look, Josh, Jackson," Alyssa said, coming to sit on the other side of me. "I should have told you guys the moment I found out. I just... I don't know. I was worried about how'd you react when I told you that your brother, Josh, is the actual father of your children."
I shook my head. "No. He is not my brother. He will never be my brother."
"What?"
I looked towards the doorway, where Elliot had appeared. I just shook my head, tucking my face back into Jackson's shoulder as Jay explained that I was talking about Paul, not him.
"You guys all set?" Jay went on to ask.
I looked up just in time to see Elliot nod his head and Ashley run into the room from behind him. She immediately crawled in between Jackson and me, looking up at us with sleep-filled eyes.
"Uncle Colton said I'm gonna sleep over his house tonight," she said.
"That's right, pumpkin," Jackson said, running a hand over her knotted hair. They had offered to take her for the night, that way we wouldn't have to worry about her while focusing on finding Logan. I was extremely grateful to them both. "So you need to behave for your uncles, okay?"
She looked back and forth between the two of us. "Is Logan going too? Where's him?"
I choked back a sob and her eyes immediately landed on mine. We hadn't yet told her that her brother was missing. We didn't want to freak her out at all. But she was smart. I'm sure she'll figure it out, especially if we don't get him back soon.
"What's wrong, Daddy?"
I shook my head. "Everything will be okay, Ash," I said, my voice only slightly shaking. "I promise. Everything will be okay soon."
I only hoped that it was true.
~Leo
My mouth dropped open as I stared at the officer in shock. "What the fuck do you mean by that?"
She shook her head, checking her computer screen again. "I'm sorry, but the man you say took your son does not exist."
"Of course he exists! He has to exist!" I was getting mad now and I didn't even care. If Kyle were with me, he probably would have told me to calm down. But he had gone into another room to talk to someone else. "You can't tell me that there's not a single Paul Andrew in the system. Don't you have, like, every single person in the country in that thing?"
She nodded her head curtly, obviously done with my shit. "There are three people with that name. None of them match the description you gave me."
"Prove it."
She sighed and I didn't miss the eye roll she gave me. I was probably keeping her from going home for the night, but I didn't care. My son needed to come home for the night, too, and the quickest way that would happen would be if she did her damn job.
"The first one is a ten year old boy in Ohio. The second is nineteen, located in Kentucky. The third is an eighty-two year old man living in Florida."
I groaned in frustration, turning around and pacing up and down the tiny space. How were we ever going to find him now?
"Leo." I jumped at the sound of Kyle's voice. I turned to see him walking over. He grabbed my hand before pulling me back over to the woman behind the desk I had just been talking to. "Did you find anything, Keira?"
She shook her head, but I answered before she could. "He doesn't fucking exist. He gave us the wrong fucking name."
"Try Suzanne and Martin Andrew," Kyle told her. "Those are his parents." As she started typing, he turned to me. "We'll find him, Leo. We will. I talked to the chief and gave him everything on Logan. I've worked with him for years. I trust him to find our son."
I pulled Kyle to me, wrapping my arms around his back. He hugged me back, and the two of us stood like that until the woman cleared her throat to update us on her search.
"Unfortunately, neither of them are in the system either. I'm sorry, but it seems as if they gave you false names."
"Fuck!" I groaned, running my hands through my hair to keep myself from hitting something. "This is all Josh's fault," I whispered, mostly to myself. "It's all his fault. If he had never invited those fucking assholes over..."
"Woah, Leo," Kyle said, grabbing hold of my wrists and lowering my arms to my sides. He looked directly into my eyes, calming me down. "It's not Josh's fault. It's no one's fault but theirs. And we'll get Logan back. We will."
I nodded my head slowly. We'd fight anyone for Logan, of course we would. But we couldn't fight each other too. I knew it wasn't Josh's fault, it was just hard not to blame him right now.
