November 12th 1:08pm

The brown-eyed girl hurried towards the familiar park, not bothering to admire the beautiful colors of the autumn scenery. She clutched the brown paper bag in her hand, thinking about her newfound friend.

Her steps quickened when she saw the battered old park bench. The wind whipped through her hair which was pulled back into a ponytail, keeping the disobeying strands out of her face.

The brown-eyed girl sat on the right side of the bench as she always did and took in a deep breath. Home sweet home.

She looked to her left and immediately caught sight of the small cream-colored dog bounding toward her. The brown-eyed girl let out a small laugh as the animal came to a stop beside her and wagged its tail. The dog looked as if it were smiling.

"Hello again, Bud," She greeted the dog, "I bet you're wanting your sandwich, aren't you?"

The dog panted and didn't respond, but the brown-eyed girl didn't expect it to.

She unfolded the top of the brown paper bag and took out one of the two sandwiches she'd prepared this morning. Both were lettuce, chicken and a little tomato. Her favorite. The dog barked excitedly upon seeing the food and sat down. Maybe it was the pup's favorite too.

The brown-eyed girl broke off the corner of the sandwich and held it out to the dog who greedily took it from her hand. Almost immediately it was gone, and the dog was waiting for more.

So, the brown-eyed girl alternated between handing the dog a piece of sandwich and taking a bite of her own lunch. This went on for a few minutes before both sandwiches had been finished by the two hungry beings.

The brown-eyed girl stood and bent down to give the pup an affectionate scratch behind the ears. "I'll come back tomorrow, okay?"

The dog stood and wagged its tail, mouth pulled back into what could be passed as a smile.

She giggled, "Bye, Bud,"

November 12th 1:39pm

The green-eyed boy walked towards his favorite park, his steps much lighter than they had been the previous day. In his hand were two plastic-wrapped sandwiches. One for him and one for his new, small friend.

The old and battered park bench came into view and the right side of his mouth quirked up into a small smile. He reached up to push his tangled knots of hair from his face as the autumn wind whipped through it restlessly.

The green-eyed boy sat on the left side of the bench as he did every day and let out a relaxed breath. He felt at home.

He looked to his right and immediately caught sight of the small, dirty animal running towards him. His barely-there smile lifted a little more at the sight of the friendly animal. A chuckle rumbled through his chest as the dog stopped beside him.

"Hey, Bud," He held up the sandwiches, "You looking for one of these?"

If it were possible, the dog's tail started wagging even faster.

The green-eyed boy unwrapped the sandwiches. Both were ham, cheese, and a little tomato, his favorite. The dog barked excitedly at the sight of food and gently pawed at his leg. Maybe it was the pup's favorite too.

He broke off a piece of the sandwich and held it out to the hungry-looking dog. Almost immediately, it was gone, and the dog was waiting for more.

The green-eyed boy began alternating between feeding the dog pieces of sandwich and taking bites of his own lunch. After only a couple of short minutes, both he and the dog were finished.

So, the green-eyed boy stood from his seat on the left side of the bench and looked down at the dog. He bent down and gave the animal an affectionate pat. "Another sandwich tomorrow?"

The dog barked twice, tail wagging enthusiastically.

He chuckled, "Bye, Bud,"
