Chapter 22: Preparing
Medicine for Master
Windsor
Alexanderâs gaze fixed on the
bloodâstained handkerchief in Master
Windsorâs hand, a shadow of concern passing over his features.
It seemed his grandfatherâs condition was far worse than he had anticipated.
Master Windsor had his own private physician, a former military medic from his unit, who had been taken in to live at the mansion upon retirement.
The servant quickly fetched the
doctor, and Alexander pulled him
aside, displaying a rare moment of unrest.
âMr. Hawthorne, what exactly is wrong with my grandfather?â

Barnaby Hawthorne sighed softly, casting a discreet glance towards Master Windsor before lowering his
voice.
âMr. Alexander, to be frank, Master Windsorâs condition is much more severe than I initially thought. His years of combat left him with numerous injuries. Though they seemed inconsequential at the time, theyâve since developed into serious
health issues.â
âIs there really nothing your medical skills can do?â Alexanderâs brows furrowed even more deeply.
Though Hawthorne was originally a military medic, he had been renowned
doctor even before enlisting.

As they discussed Master Windsorâs condition, Isabella couldnât help feeling a pang of concern.
Despite her disdain for Alexander, she
genuinely respected the old man. She had heard of Master Windsorâs
military achievements and felt
saddened that such a venerable general was now plagued by illness.
Noticing the worry in Isabellaâs eyes, Master Windsor offered a dismissive
smile, taking her hand with the warmth of a kindly elder.
âMy dear Isabella, thereâs no need to worry about this old soldier. Iâve faced life and death on the battlefield; Iâve
long since made peace with my mortality. Seeing Alexander find a good woman like you brings me comfort.
Isabella listened to Master Windsorâs words, which sounded almost like a farewell, feeling an unexpected surge

of emotion that made her nose tingle.
Without thinking, she blurted out, âMaster Windsor, youâll be okay.â
Master Windsor smiled and shook his head, his grip on Isabellaâs hand tightening as if fearing she might disappear the next moment. âThereâs no need to comfort me. I know the state of my own body.â
Taking a deep breath, as if steeling herself, Isabella said, âLet me take a
look then. I know a bit about medicine.
Let me take your pulse.â
Master Windsor, indulging her,
extended his hand with a smile,
treating the gesture as if humoring a childâs play.
The pulse was irregular, but Isabella quickly identified the root causes of his ailments: residual effects from old
injuries compounded by recent stress over Alexanderâs matters, all of which

had taken a toll on his body.
âMaster Windsor, let me prepare some medicine for you.â
âAlright, alright. If itâs made by my granddaughterâinâlaw, Iâd drink it even if it were poison,â Master Windsor agreed readily, his gaze never leaving Isabella. He didnât care if Isabella truly knew medical practices; he was simply playing along with her.
Meanwhile, Mr. Hawthorne and
Alexander, having overheard Isabellaâs
offer, were hesitant.
As Master Windsorâs personal
physician, Mr. Hawthorne naturally
opposed the idea of letting an outsider
prepare medicine for him.
Given Master Windsorâs high status,
even his daily routines were
meticulously managed by trusted insiders, and his meals were prepared by a dedicated chef.
