Chapter 35:
Isabella Me
The man sitting across from Grayson on the sofa tossed the files aside in exasperation and raised an eyebrow at him.
âAfter sleeping for so long, are you
out of practice?â
âYouâre welcome to find out.â
With those words, Grayson set his wine glass on the table and gave it a gentle push. It slid smoothly across the surface, coming to a steady stop right in front of the other man.
âHow much longer do you plan to stay in the hospital?â
âYou know itâs not something I can control.â
Graysonâs tone carried a hint of

frostiness.
âThis canât go on. Is there any way to keep that idiot from appearing again?â
Graysonâs brow furrowed slightly. After a moment of silence, he spoke slowly: âKill Isabella.â
âWhoâs Isabella?â
âThe person that idiot cares about most. If you kill her, he wonât show
up anymore.â
The corners of the manâs mouth twitched. To think there was someone in this world who would refer to himself as an idiot.
âIf itâs that simple, why havenât you done it? Donât have the heart?â
Graysonâs head snapped up, a flash of frustration in his eyes.
âEvery time I try, that idiot appears

and stops me. I need your help. If
you kill Isabella in front of him, heâll give up for good.â
The man chuckled noncommittally. Glancing at the time, he stood up.
âI donât have much in the way of midnight snacks, just a few bao. Make do with those.â
Abruptly, Grayson shot to his feet,
drawing the gun from his waist and
pointing it straight at the other man.
âDonât you dare make me eat any more f***ing waffle!!!â
Early the next morning, as soon as Isabella arrived at school, Evelyn approached her.
Isabella looked at her mockingly. âMs. Wraithwood, I see your foot healed quite quickly.â

Remembering that humiliation, Evelynâs expression darkened for a moment, but she quickly plastered
on a smile.
âIsabella, Iâm not here to pick a fight today. I wanted to invite you to a party. Weâre about to graduate, so I thought Iâd have some good friends. over to my place to relax and
unwind.â
âMs. Wraithwood, I believe youâre mistaken. Weâre not exactly friends, are we?â
Evelyn hadnât expected such a
blatant rejection. Her eyes flickered with annoyance.
âIsabella, donât be so ungrateful!â
âMs. Wraithwood, if thereâs nothing else, kindly step aside. Otherwise, I wonât go easy on you like last time.â
Isabellaâs voice was calm.

Instinctively, Evelyn took a step back, the images that had been circulating on the school forum the past few days flashing through her mind.
If Isabella could singleâhandedly take down an armed man, dealing with her would be a mere flick of the
wrist.
Just as she reached the library
entrance, Isabella received a text
from Charlotte.
âCome home quick, Dadâs sick.â
Isabella sighed softly. This family really couldnât stay out of trouble. But Edward was still her foster father in name, and now wasnât the time to cut ties with the Sterlings
completely. Sheâd better go back and check on him.
However, when she got home, only

Eleanor and Charlotte were there.
âCharlotte, didnât you say Dad was sick?â
Charlotte looked at her innocently. âSister, what nonsense are you spouting? Dadâs perfectly fine. How could you curse him like that?â
In that moment, Isabella understood. Charlotte had deliberately tricked her into coming back.
âMom, Iâm going to Ms.
Wraithwoodâs party later. Sister
rarely attends these events, so I want her to come with me today.â
Charlotteâs voice took on a
wheedling tone. Eleanor always
doted on her, naturally going along with her wishes.
âAll right, you two go together then.â
âIâm not going.â

Isabella refused pointâblank. First Evelyn, now Charlotte. These two were determined to get her to some damn party. There had to be something fishy going on.
She wasnât that stupid.
âYou ungrateful brat! Charlotteâs kindly offering to broaden your horizons, and if you donât go today, Iâll definitely tell your father about this.â
Isabella sighed inwardly, turning to look at Charlotte, who was gloating beside her.
She was curious to see what trick Charlotte and Evelyn were up to this time.
