Chapter 14: Chapter 13

Awakening: The Demigod SeriesWords: 12615

A/N: Ryder Cassius, The Stealth Team Leader

Tobago: Crescent wolf pack

Ethan stood only a few feet away from the woman he admired so greatly. Feelings of shame and guilt bloomed within him. He was responsible for her protection and he failed. He watched as the creature sunk it's fangs into her but he was too far away. By the time he had reached it was too late. She was already passed out bleeding heavily from the bite in the Alpha's arms.

Watching her now was surreal, gone was the powerful royal. What remained was a deathly pale fragile looking woman lying on a medical bed fighting to just stay alive. Just then, her pulse started dropping again as her heart beat faltered.

Ethan bent down close to her whispering quietly while caressing her hair.

"Stay strong, I'm so sorry. I'll find a way for you to survive this." He encouraged when even he himself felt hopeless.

His eyes fell on the bandage covering almost all of her tiny neck. It was stained through and through with blood again. The bite never healed and kept bleeding heavily. While now would be a good situation to start pumping blood into her to speed up her healing they weren't sure it would work. To begin with, she was never actually a werewolf therefore finding appropriate blood was impossible.

"Is she stabilizing yet?" Ethan questioned hopefully.

"No, in fact... she's getting worst. Although if we had suitable blood it should help her healing." The pack doctor spoke.

"That's not possible doctor, she is one of a kind." Ethan spoke before questioning with a growing glare. He was getting tired of the doctor being so useless in helping her.

"What's the reason for her not healing?"

"It's the venom, it's in her blood and it's blocking her supernatural abilities... in fact... the royal appears completely..." The doctor stuttered out now afraid of finishing his sentence since his next word would be a great insult to the royal.

"What is it?!" Ethan demanded with the growing death look.

"Human... She's completely human." The doctor responded now staring at the floor afraid of making eye contact.

"Human? What the hell is that supposed to mean?!" Ethan yelled at the doctor taking a threatening step forward.

Like the flip of a switch Ethan's mood changed from calm to killer. He was just about done with the doctor only giving him reports rather than actually helping her. However before he could become more out of control Noble Matthew interrupted stepping into the medical room.

"Regardless of whether the Doctor has lost it or not, Royal Alex needs her rest and your screaming doesn't help. Either clam down or step outside." He spoke sternly.

A normal Noble will dare not be so brazen with the Execution head but Matthew was an exception. Both him and Carter were close to Emma and knew she was different but unlike Ethan they didn't know the whole story.

Taking a deep breath Ethan calmed down before questioning the doctor.

"What makes you think that?"

"Well... her heart beat is slower than a werewolf, her pulse is also slower, and her body temperature is the same as a human. It didn't make sense so I took some blood and well the results. She is human." He finished as he kept glancing at the Execution head worriedly.

Ethan knew better, her heart beat, pulse and body temperature was actually correct but...

"How did you extract the blood?" He questioned confused, there was nothing he knew of that could penetrate her skin.

"A syringe." The doctor answered equally confused.

If a simple needle could pierce her skin then the doctor might actually be telling the truth.

"I want to see the results of her blood work." Ethan demanded and the Doctor shuffled to the other side of the room to retrieve it.

As Ethan carefully combed the report the truth was there. She was human. Just then Matthew spoke.

"Is it true?" Matthew didn't know many medical terms unlike Ethan so it would be gibberish to him.

"Yes, she is... human." Ethan confirmed.

"Actually... it gets worst. She's bleeding too much. If it continues her human self might not survive." The doctor stated gravely.

"Are you actually saying what I think you're saying?" Matthew questioned refusing to believe the doctor while Ethan remained quietly observing.

"Yes, the royal could die." The doctor's words were final nail.

Ethan went back to her bedside whispering comforting words into her ear while Matthew turned away as his eyes filled with tears. The woman whom had always seemed so powerful was in danger of dying something he thought was impossible for her. She had saved his life once before and now that she was dying there was nothing he could do to return the favor.

Knock Knock Knock!

Matthew quickly dried his eyes and went to answer the door.

Gamma Ryan stepped in bowing to Ethan.

"Execution head, the Stealth team is almost here. Your presence is requested to give them clearance onto the island." The Gamma spoke not once making eye contact. Since Emma was indisposed Ethan had to take control and as a result of the attack the island was on lock down.

Like the Execution team, the Stealth team was another section of the werewolf council. They were a small team made up of warriors who specialized in their covert skills. Their head was Ryder Cassius who like Ethan was also a Noble. They were just as strong as the Execution team however they weren't created for killing. They either cover up the supernatural or are spies for the werewolf council. At least on the surface that's what they appear to be.

"Don't leave her side." Ethan instructed Matthew, he wasn't leaving Emma alone.

"I wasn't planning to." Matthew spoke pulling out a chair next to her bed.

Ethan stepped out of the room with four warriors behind him as he started down the corridors. Ethan wasn't going to give the witches a second chance to attack Emma so almost half his entire team was stationed for her safety and the rest spread throughout the island. Now that the Stealth team was here he could feel a little more relaxed.

Reaching the front of the island Ethan walked onto the beach just as a chopper approached. As it came closer his ankle length jacket went flapping in the wind behind him. His golden blonde hair became messy as ocean blue eyes squinted against the sun following the chopper's descend.

Like Ethan, the Stealth team's head Ryder also knew the truth about Emma's birth. They both held the same respect and admiration for her which often was the cause of many of their disagreements as one would try to outdo the other to impress the right hand. However while they were known to never see eye to eye, for Emma they would put aside their differences. She was the one thing they had in common.

While Ethan was more stern and controlled Ryder was a free spirit and definitely more reckless. Hence it didn't surprise Ethan when a figure jumped out of the chopper landing right in front of him. As Ryder stood Ethan scowled at his childishness.

Rising to his full 6'4 height Ryder smirked mischievously at the still scowling Ethan. Forest green eyes stared into ocean blue and while Ethan had blonde hair Ryder's was dark brown, a chocolate colour. Though they had the same height Ryder was on the lean side while Ethan was more buffed a clear distinction in the nature of their jobs.

They both stood regarding each other for a few seconds as a silent agreement pasted between them. Emma needed them so for her sake they needed to play nice.

"What happened exactly?" Ryder questioned now serious as the smirk slipped from his face and was replaced by a firm stare, yet Ethan could see pass his mask to the fear that Ryder tried hiding. Despite the chopper now landing not too far from them Ethan was able to hear his every word from their close distance.

"It bit her... I was too late." Ethan spoke with down casted eyes clearly feeling guilty. Just as quickly as the words left his mouth Ryder's fist followed closely behind. Ethan stumble a step back but did not retaliate, in fact, he expected it.

"You forgot our oath. The Council Leaders trusted us to protect her. You were closer! How could you have been late?!" Ryder demanded loudly clearly angry.

"I was just a few seconds late... I watched it sink its teeth into her. We were lucky that she did a binding spell on the creature before she lost consciousness, that was the only way we were able to imprison it." Ethan continued still looking at the sand. He was much too ashamed of the fact that he came so close yet couldn't keep her safe.

"How did the venom affect her? Is she okay?" Ryder questioned worried as his tone softened.

Ethan finally raised his head to look Ryder dead in the eyes. Taking a deep breath and bracing himself in case Ryder decided to punch him again he answered.

"Not good, the venom it changed her."

A feeling of dread settled in Ryder's stomach, nothing about that sentence sounded good.

"Changed her how?"

Ethan now looking at the ground answered.

"She is now... human."

As Ryder's jaw hung open Ethan continued.

"I checked myself, there is no doubt. She is human." Ethan confirmed to a shock Ryder.

"How is that possible?" He questioned confused.

"I think it's the venom. She was fine until it bit her. She just dropped like dead weight after. At least the Alpha was close enough to catch her." Ethan answered.

"The Alpha? Why was he there and not in the safe house? Carter and Matthew should have evacuated the area." Ryder responded.

"I was too busy with Emma to care about that but it is interesting." Ethan spoke before his tone dropped to a soft whisper almost like he didn't want to say it.

"There is something else..." He trailed off.

"What else is there?" Ryder questioned firmly and despite his tone Ethan was able to pick up Ryder's distress.

"The bite it's not healing. In fact she is bleeding so much that it's now life threatening and there is no suitable blood to help her heal otherwise I would have already given her mine." Ethan spoke but as soon as the last word left his lips Ryder had pinned him up against a tree in a choke hold. Normally Ethan would never allow such humiliation but he had failed and hence deserved Ryder's wrath.

"Are you really saying what I think you're trying to say?" Ryder growled out furious as his team assembled behind him in support.

Though they were unsure of the situation their leader had taken an attack stance and so they out of training prepared for a fight. Likewise Ethan's team members also followed. One wrong move and a battle could start between the Execution and Stealth teams.

"Yes... She's dying." Ethan barely whispered out while staring at the ground. If Ryder wasn't so close he wouldn't have heard those words, in fact no one else did.

The shock of it caused Ryder's grip to grow slack as he froze up. He was lost in thought, the woman he had admired for so long the one person he never saw even bleed, was dying.

Instantly both teams relaxed sensing the danger over.

Suddenly Ryder's eyes focused and his determination came back. He wasn't about to let her die. They were going to do everything they can to save her.

"Let's go." He spoke loudly to both teams as Ethan led the way.

....

Unknown POV

Damn it! I didn't think the Execution team would get here so quickly. I was prepared to kill the Alpha and take the Hybrid but suddenly he appeared, Ethan Hawk. I couldn't risk him seeing me. I wasn't supposed to be here, if he had found me he would get suspicious. I had no excuse and it's too late now.

The Stealth team had just arrived. I watched from the distance as even before the chopper landed a figure jumped out. Besides his mischievousness Ryder Cassius was no joke. Only a very few knew this but the Stealth team isn't just for spying or concealing the supernatural. That was just a cover to hide their true purpose. They were the council's secret team of assassins with Ryder being the deadliest.

With both Ethan and Ryder there was no way I could get the Hybrid now. The plan failed, the only thing that worked was the venom. Judging from the Hybrid's response, the venom was a success. We finally found something that can subdue her. Though they did take my creation prisoner, it didn't matter. Her brothers and sisters will help me finally get the Hybrid back into my hands just like old times. Now that she is human it will be easier to take her to the witches however Ethan and Ryder will be a problem.

It's a good thing I have a backup plan. Now that she is weak all I have to do is wait for the right moment to take her away. After all we have been waiting almost two hundred years to get her back since she is the key to us finally winning the war and taking over the world.
