Chapter 15
After her postpartum period ended, Rebecca could finally leave the house and move around.
Charlie excitedly pulled her aside and asked if she would join him on a reality show.
Their parents immediately rolled their eyes at the suggestion.
Patrick warned his son, âCharlie! Donât involve your sister in such nonsense!â
Debra also disapproved. âExactly. Becky has only just finished her recovery and still needs to rest. Donât wear her out, or youâll answer to me!â
Charlie immediately got defensive. âHow is it nonsense? The entertainment industry isnât all bad, okay? Some people keep their integrity while others lose it. You guys are just biased against the entertainment world!â
After snapping at his father, he turned to his mother and hurriedly said, âDonât worry, Mom. I only have one sister, and Iâll definitely take care of her. The show is called âA Glimpse into Our Familyâ and focuses on family bonds. As her brother, Iâll make sure sheâs well taken care of and not overworked!â
Charlie then added assertively, âBesides, I heard Janet will be on the show too. That wretch has bullied Becky for so long. Donât you guys want Becky to get back at her?
âI donât care if you want to or not, I do. That wretch really ticks me off. How dare she call herself a leading actress looking like that? Ha, once Becky comes on, anyone who thinks Janet is goodâlooking must be blind!â
Debra frowned, âJanet will be on the show too?â
Charlie fell silent and was at a loss for words.
The next moment, Rebecca spoke up. âIâll go.â
Everyone then turned to look at her.
Rebecca was silent for a moment before explaining, âDad, Mom, I actuallyâ¦also wanted to apply to film school eight years ago. I dreamed of joining the entertainment industry, becoming famous, and being a star.
âShortly after my adoptive parents had adopted me, they soon had their own biological child. Since Janetâs birth, they have never treated me like their own daughter anymore. I felt like an outsider who shouldnât exist in that home. Janet always bullied me, and my adoptive parents always made me give in to her. If I didnât, they would punish me. Thatâs why I always wanted to find my real parents since I was young.
âBack then, I really wanted to be a celebrity because they stand out, and everyone in the country can see them. I thought if my parents were still alive and I became a star, they might see me. If they saw me, they might recognize me and come to find me.

Chapter 15
âWhen I took the SAT at eighteen, I scored 1450 on the test. I wanted to go to Southwood Film Academy, but Janet found out and made sure I couldnât apply to a good university, and in the endâ¦â
As Rebecca spoke, her eyes suddenly welled up with tears. She then took a deep breath to compose herself before. continuing calmly, âI ended up attending a terrible university.â
When they heard her, Debra started crying, and Patrickâs eyes also became teary.
Adrian, Bryce, and even Charlie were also infuriated.
They hadnât had the slightest idea that their sister had been bullied so badly, and that the Mitchell family would have gone this far, especially Janet.
âBecky, if you still want to continue your education, I can arrange it for you. There are many adult education programs available. If you study hard, you can still get into a good university!â Adrian quickly said, showing his support for his sister.
âExactly. You can even pursue a masterâs or a Ph.D. As long as you want it, thereâs always a way!â Bryce chimed in, believing his sisterâs future was full of possibilities if she worked hard.
As Charlie listened to his older brothers, he felt horrified since he hated studying. He thought, âBecky finally got through those school years, and now they want her to go back? Adrian and Bryce must be out of their minds. Thatâs terrifying!â
Rebecca said, âYou guys, thereâs no need to worry about me. My studies havenât been affected. Even though I didnât attend the university I preferred, I still studied hard and got accepted into a graduate program at Twin Ivy University after I graduated.
âBack then, the Mitchell family forced me to marry Theodore. After I married him, the Mitchell family couldnât control me as much, so I could continue my studies. Theodoreâs grandmother knew about this too.â
She then seriously explained to everyone, âHis grandmother likes highly educated girls, so compared to Janet, his grandparents like me more.â
Charlie was stunned after hearing her. His jaw dropped as he looked at his sister in disbelief.
He exclaimed inwardly, âWhat the heck?! Is this really my sister?â
Charlie glanced at Rebecca and shifted his gaze to Adrian, Bryce, and then, lastly, his parents, feeling life was unfair.
Charlie asked, âDad, Mom, were you playing favorites when you had me?â
âHow come Adrian, Bryce, and Becky are so clever and have excellent grades, while Iâm the only one whoâs a slacker?â he complained.

At that, everyone except Charlie burst into laughter. They were happy and relieved that despite the hardships Becky faced, she was smart and hardworking. Even though she had been adopted by such a terrible family, shet had managed to climb to the top through her own efforts.
Debra looked at her youngest son and jokingly scolded him, âHow can you say that? Adrian and Bryce are one thing, but Becky had it rough and still didnât give up on her studies. Meanwhile, you, the slacker, were always mischievous and never missed a chance to cause trouble. Now youâre embarrassed in front of your sister? Serves you right!â
âExactly! You deserve it!â Patrick chimed in.
Charlie found that he couldnât argue with that.
Everyone fell silent for a moment before Debra asked, âBecky, the entertainment industry isnât like other fields. Do you know how scary public opinion can be? No matter what, Janet has been in the industry for many years. Sheâs now a top actress with many fans. If you go on the show and go against her, her fans might attack you. Youâ¦â
âWhatâs there to be scared of? Well, she might be a top actress, but your son is an awardâwinning actor, Mom! Donât worry. Iâll protect Becky. If Janetâs fans dare to attack Becky, my fans will surely retaliate against Janet!â Charlie immediately said loudly.
Debra rolled her eyes at him. âItâs not the same! Youâre a man with a thick skin and you are resilient. Becky is a girl, and girls are naturally more sensitive. What if those insulting comments get to her?â
Charlie thought Debra was being unfair.
Debra thought about it for a moment and then looked at Rebecca, saying, âAnd Beckyâs identity is also a problem. Becky hasnât gotten her divorce license yet. We canât reveal that sheâs our daughter for now.
