They were both in Greenmeadow, and Jungler was an online celebrity of sorts, so Cordelia had no concerns about potential deceit. As for the meeting place, she hadnât chosen one.
When Jungler she hadnât specified a location, he sent over an address for the Sapphire Sojourn Hotel, with a quick message, âIs this okay?â
Cordelia shot back a reply, âSure.â
As long as it was in Greenmeadow, she feared nothing.
Merry, noticing her nonchalance, sneakily glanced at the hotel name on the messaging app. The Sapphire Sojourn Hotel was currently the most opulent fiveâstar establishment in Greenmeadow. She immediately sent private message to Yates, âYates, you familiar with the Sapphire Sojourn Hotel?â
Yates replied, âYeah, itâs my familyâs.â
Merry was stunned for a second.
Yates, âWhatâs up?â
××××
Merry cleared her throat, âStep outside for a sec, Iâll fill you in face to face. Itâs a bit of a pickle.â
After agreeing to meet at the stairwell, Merry explained everything to Yates, concluding with, âLiaâs meeting them there tonight. Letâs tag along in case things get rough. I can b back you up!â
Yates nodded, âSounds good.â
At lunch, Cordelia looked at Everard and suddenly inquired, âDo you play video games?â
Everard paused for a beat, âA bit. Which one?â
âPOT.â
Leaning his head on his hand, Everard asked again, âMobile or PC version
Cordelia was taken aback, âWhatâs PC version?â
âThat would be for the computer.â
âOh.â She had an âahaâ moment. âDidnât know this game had a PC version.â
Everard was speechless.
âSo you play the mobile one?â
Everard couldnât help but smile, âIâm good with the PC version; the mobile should be similar.â
Nodding, Cordelia then asked, âYou busy tonight?â
Everardâs deep eyes held a flirtatious glint, âWhy, is this a date?â
Cordelia was at a loss for words. His teasing made her recall their pool encounter, heating her cheeks, âNo, donât get the wrong idea.â
âOkay, Everard said, âIâm always available for you.â
After a pause, she added, âThen youâll accompany me tonight.â
Having been invited to dinner by Sweetheart and Jungler, she couldnât go alone and appear inferior
y him off
With a boyfriend as striking as Everard, it would be a waste not to show

âSure But whatâs this got to do with gaming?â he asked.
Cordelia laid out the situation and ended with, âAlmost forgot, my rank in the game was thanks to you, so you
must have some skills.â
Everard was once again speechless.
Despite his changing expressions, she reassured him, âNo worries if youâre not great, just make up the numbers.â
She figured the real game might need to be settled in the virtual world, they might be up for a fourâperson showdown tonight. With her team one member short, Everard could fill in.
Everard chuckled softly.
After her spiel, she suddenly remembered, âRight, you got an account?â
Everard replied, âFor this game, the PC and mobile versions account works on mobile,
e connected. My Pr so Iâm all set.â
âGreat.â
Everard held back a smile, thinking of Cordelia teasing him about being good for nothing but love. Last time. at the pool, heâd wanted to impress her with his skills, and now, here was another chanceâmisunderstood again. He couldnât resist saying. âIâm actually pretty decent at games.â
Hearing this, Cordelia glanced at him, âNo pressure, really. Iâve heard itâs a young personâs game. I understand if youâre not as quick as the younger crowd.â
Everard was totally at a loss for words.
Seeing his baffled expression, she wondered if sheâd hurt his feelings. Reluctantly parting with a piece of her treasured beef, she placed it in his plate, coaxing, âEat up.â
That should cheer him up, right? Cordelia thought.
âWas she comforting me now, starting to care about my feelings?â With that thought, he ate the beef and tasted a hint of sweetness.
Dating her meant finding sugar amidst the shards of glass!
After the meal, they went their separate ways.
Later, in the Midnight Scent, Everard found Skyler rifling through snacks. Unfazed by his entrance, Skyler cheerily remarked, âBoss, you move so silently, gave me a fright.â
Everard glared at him.
As Skyler spoke, he pocketed some snacks and, seeing Everardâs gaze, chuckled, âYou donât sell or eat these; theyâll just expire. Might as well let me have them!â
He then opened a bag of chips, crunching away, and shared, âIâve checked out the orphanage Lia grew up in. Special place. Someoneâs been funding it regularly since she was dropped off eighteen years ago. They never lacked for anything, even had fancy musical instruments. The place may look rundown, but inside, itâs like fancy sanatorium with a pool, a gym⦠No wonder they didnât kick Lia out even at eighteen. The orphanage
wasnât short on cash!â
He blinked his round eyes, a cute smile on his face, âBut ever since Lia was taken in by the Delaney family. the headmaster said the money stopped coming. Itâs like the benefactor vanished. Weâve been looking forever, canât figure out who it was.
Everard scoffed, âUseless.â

Skyler grinned, âWith you on it, weâll find them.â
Everard glanced at him and sat behind the counter, understanding now why she could swimâher childhood had lacked for nothing.
Heâd been searching for her for so many yearsâ¦
Evening came quickly.
After school, Merry was all sneaky and whispered that she had a ride arranged with Yates, so she was good to go. Cordelia nodded and told her to be safe.
Then, they hopped into the Delaney familyâs SUV, with Everard in tow, and sped off to the hotel.
Inside the hotelâs private dining room.
Logan glanced around at the handful of game streamers from Greenmeadow gathered there, his expression slightly sour. He hadnât expected Sweetheart to invite such a crowdâ¦.
And there she was, live streaming. âYeah, Learnerâs gonna join us in a bit. Tonightâs all about catching up and. laying everything out on the tableâ¦â
As she spoke, the chat was flooded with messages zipping across the screen:
âAwesome, canât wait to see what Learner, the oddity, looks like
âWow, that hotel looks fancy, totally jealous of Learner. Iâve never dined in such a place â
âLearnerâs probably gonna be shocked by a hotel like this⦠I mean, she must be from an average family, never spends a dime on games
Sweetheart saw these comments and her lips curled into a smile.
