âI honestly donât want to tell you two anything. With the Alpha being suspicious of me and refusing to accept my mating bond with Igétas, it just seems better not to draw any attention to ourselves.â
Dr. Brown chuckles, and I stare at him with contempt. Who is he to laugh at our misery?
âViolet, you went into heat for days. The whole pack was busy saving your life. The ones who werenât helping you with your heat were in the prison cells guarding Igétas. You two have been and still are the center of attention.â
Right, life rolled by while I was suffering in pain.
âWe are bound by professional confidentiality. Whatever you tell us, we wonât tell a soul.â Maya adds.
I think about it for a second, not wanting to make a rushed decision. My mind is still scrambled from everything that happened.
âOkay,â I sigh, âmaybe it isnât a bad idea to let you know what we think. It might be good to have someone in our corner.â
âI am always on your side,â Maya slips her hand in mine, giving me the strength to tell them our theory.
âI donât have werewolf blood running in my veins. Letâs start with that. I even asked my mom if I was adopted or if my dad is really my dad.â I sigh, thinking back to that conversation. She was so upset when I asked.
âThat seems right, no one has been able to smell wolf in you.â Maya interjects.
âBut my mother had a problem becoming pregnant. She told me that she prayed to every god and goddess to bless her with a child.â I look at the two doctors. I can tell they are not making the connection.
âMy mom prayed to goddesses,â I gesture with my hands in circles. Still no response. âShe prayed to every goddess,â I wait, but still nothing. âWe believe Selene was the goddess who answered my motherâs call and bless her with me.â I point at myself to make it more clear.
Finally Mayaâs brows shoot up and Brown stammers that canât be true.
âShe was the one who gave me life. And it turns out she also gave me a mate to love me and for me to love.â
âThat canât be.â Dr. Brown tells me again. Iâm regretting telling them.
âThink about it. Mates are created by Selene. I am a mate. A human mate without any wolf-blood-line thingy. If one of you has a better idea on how this can be possible, then by all means let me know.â
I lean back in my bed.
Wow, youâre a blessing from the Goddess.â Maya stares at me in disbelief.
âYes, maybe it is true and Selene made me happen, which would explain why I am mated to Igétas, how I can have heat cycles and where my Luna-courage is coming from.â
âLetâs say you are right,â Brown starts, âThen how do you explain your heat being more intense than the ones wolves experience.â
âI am not a doctor, I am not sure. But could it be that a human body isnât built for heat cycles? It might also have something to do with the mating tier Igétas and I are on.â
âWait,â Maya interjects, âdid you do the tests?â
âNo, Igétas explained a little about the tiers. He believes the connection we have fits with the description of matings on a high tier. So, maybe the heat itâs related with the tiers?â
I look at Maya. I can tell sheâs considering it. âYes, I did read something about that, but it has never been tested.â She chuckles, âThere were never enough couples who could wait with the mating process to find out.â
âI think Igétas is right.â Brown speaks. âYou knew when Igétas was near when you had your first session with me. Without a mark, that is unheard of. You two must be very high on the mating tier to have that connection.â
âWell, that was the other mystery.â I sigh, getting tired again.
âSo, what happens now?â I look at the doctors. Maya takes charge.
âYou need to recover, take your time to find your strength again. Eat, sleep andâ¦â
Her stare darts around the room before she meets my eyes. âYou need Igétas to complete the mating bond. I donât know if I can save you if this happens again. I have no idea when the next heat will come. It can be a couple of days, it can be weeks. My advice is to just do it quickly.â She tells me sternly and I nod.
I donât want to be in pain like that again. Hell, I donât want to die before I even get to live my life with Igétas. The only problem in our way is the Alpha forbidding it to happen. He almost killed me with his stupid rules.
âMating, but the Alphaâ¦â I start and Maya shushes me.
âI know what he thinks and it is not ideal to go against his command, but your life is in danger if you donât. And if your life is in dangerâ¦â I complete the sentence. âThen Igétasâ life is also over.â
She nods and I understand. We need to get the Alpha to accept our mating and accept me in his pack as a member. He needs to be a brother to his Beta instead of an Alpha.
âJust know that we are still under attack and rogues are still being seen by the border.â Brown tells me, but I donât understand what that has to do with my mating. I am just too tired to care.
âI am feeling tired again, can we unleash my mate so I can sleep in his arms?â I ask them and they nod.
âIâll get you a wheelchair.â Maya is already up and Brown is saying goodbye.
Maya helps me get dressed and takes me outside. I feel the wind through my hair. I breathe in the fresh air and love it when I leave the hospital.
The only thing missing is my handsome mate. I miss him so much.
Letâs unleash the beast, my beast. My mate, my wolf.
