Chapter 49: Chapter Fourty Five.

~Drunk in Infatuation~Words: 17990

Arjun stepped out of his car with an aura of menace, his footsteps striking hard against the concrete as he strode toward the first warehouse.

The heavy, rusted doors creaked open, and Karan immediately appeared, a slight tension in his stance.

“Where is he?” Arjun demanded, his voice low yet commanding.

“Cell 35.” Karan answered promptly. Without another word, Arjun moved with purpose toward the holding cell.

As he approached, he could already hear muffled shouting from within.

Through the small glass window, Arjun saw Veer, chained to a chair, his wrists bound tightly, and his eyes blindfolded.

A harsh spotlight illuminated him, casting long, sinister shadows across the room.

“Let me out! Who are you? What do you want?” Veer’s voice echoed, a mix of anger and desperation.

Arjun’s expression darkened, his jaw tightening as he signaled for one of the men to open the cell door.

The heavy door groaned as it swung open, and Arjun stepped inside, his movements deliberate and calm.

The moment the door opened, Veer’s senses sharpened. He stilled, clearly aware of another presence.

“Who the hell are you?” Veer demanded, his tone growing more combative.

Arjun didn’t respond immediately. Instead, he moved to a chair positioned just beyond the harsh beam of light and sat down, his posture casual but his eyes burning with a cold fury. The shadows cloaked him, making his presence feel even more menacing.

Karan stepped out behind Arjun and, without hesitation, ripped the blindfold from Veer’s face.

Veer squinted, his eyes struggling to adjust to the sudden brightness. He looked around the room frantically, his gaze landing first on Karan.

“Who are you? Why am I here? What the hell is going—”

“Headache. God, you talk too much.” Arjun interrupted, his voice cutting through Veer’s words like a blade. “Is this what she sees in you?”

Veer froze mid-sentence, his breath catching as he turned his head toward the direction of the voice.

Slowly, from the shadows, Arjun stepped into the light. His imposing figure loomed over the room, exuding a calm but deadly energy.

Recognition dawned on Veer, but instead of fear, his expression shifted to something harder—defiance. His narrowed eyes locked onto Arjun’s, his voice steady and cold as he spoke.

“Arjun Madhav.”

The way Veer said his name wasn’t out of awe or fear—it was a challenge. His tone was unrecognizable, far from the affectionate and easygoing voice Meera knew.

Karan, who stood off to the side, raised an eyebrow at Veer’s boldness. He glanced at Arjun, whose clenched fists betrayed his otherwise composed exterior.

Arjun took a slow step closer, his eyes never leaving Veer.

“So, you do know me. That makes this easier.”

“What do you want, Madhav? Do you think chaining me up will scare me?” Veer shot back, his tone sharp.

Arjun smirked, but it didn’t reach his eyes. “Scare you? No, Ranveer. Scaring you isn’t the goal. You took something that doesn’t belong to you. You know who I’m talking about.”

"Do I look like I give a damn about anything that belongs to you?" Veer spat, his voice sharp with anger, his wrists straining against the heavy chains that bound him. His eyes glared at Arjun with unyielding defiance.

Arjun had the faintest trace of a smirk playing on his lips. “You like to play tough, don’t you?” he remarked, his tone calm but laced with an ominous edge.

Veer exhaled heavily, frustration evident in his tense posture.

“Arjun, for the last time, I didn’t take anything that belongs to you.” he growled, yanking at the chains again. “Now get this goddamn chain off me.”

Instead of complying, Arjun chuckled–low and humorless, a sound that sent chills down Veer’s spine despite his bravado. His dark gaze bored into Veer’s, his next words sharp and final.

“Stay away from her.”

Veer froze mid-struggle, his movements halted by the weight of those four words. Slowly, his gaze flicked up to meet Arjun’s.

For a moment, the room was silent, save for the faint echo of Arjun’s chilling statement.

Then Veer threw his head back and laughed—a loud, incredulous laugh that filled the room.

“Her? Stay away from her?” Veer said, his tone dripping with amusement as he looked up at Arjun with a raised brow.

“Madhav, I have no idea who this her is that you’re so worked up about. The only her in my life is my fiancée. And if that’s who you’re talking about, I think you’ve lost your mind.”

The amusement in Veer’s tone only seemed to stoke the flames of Arjun’s fury.

Without warning, Arjun stepped forward and delivered a brutal punch to Veer’s jaw, silencing his laughter in an instant. Veer groaned in pain, his head snapping to the side from the force of the blow.

“I’m talking about her.” Arjun snarled, his voice a dangerous growl. “Meera. And let me make one thing very clear—she is not your fiancée. Not now. Not ever.”

Veer turned his head back slowly, his jaw clenching as he met Arjun’s blazing eyes. His expression hardened, the playful defiance replaced by something colder, deadlier.

“You can take everything from me, Arjun.” Veer said, his voice low and measured. “You can take anything else you want!!, But Meera?” He leaned forward as far as the chains would allow, his own fury simmering beneath his calm tone. “She’s off-limits.”

Arjun’s face twisted into a snarl, his composure cracking. “Meera doesn’t belong to you. She’s mine.” he hissed, each word dripping with possessive rage.

Veer’s jaw tightened. “Meera isn’t something to be owned, Arjun. She’s a person. Maybe that’s something your twisted mind doesn’t understand.”

The room went silent for a moment, thick with tension. Arjun’s hand twitched, his restraint barely holding as Veer’s words hit a nerve.

“You think you’re noble, don’t you? Playing the charming, perfect Man?” Arjun sneered, leaning closer.

“But I know who you really are, Ranveer Luthra. You’re just as twisted as the rest of us. Maybe worse.”  Arjun smirked.

Veer didn’t flinch, his gaze unwavering. “At least I’m not a monster who drags an innocent woman into a world she doesn’t belong in. You can’t force someone to love you, Arjun. No matter how much power you have.”

Arjun’s smirk faded, replaced by a dangerous glint in his eyes.

“You’re right about one thing. Love can’t be forced. But loyalty? That can be earned. And I’ll make sure Meera sees who you really are before this is over.”

The two men locked eyes, the room charged with an intensity that threatened to erupt into violence at any moment.

Veer’s lips curled into a mocking smile. “Good luck with that. She knows exactly who I am, and she chose me. Not you.”

The words stung, but Arjun hid it well. Instead, he turned to Karan.

“Make sure he’s... comfortable. I’m not done with him yet.”

Without another glance, Arjun turned and walked out of the cell, his mind already spinning with plans. This wasn’t over.

Far from it—It wasn’t about the chains or the room they were in—it was about the woman who had unwittingly become the center of a storm, a pawn in a deadly game between two men who would stop at nothing to claim her.

Meera’s nerves were already frazzled, and now, standing in front of Ranveer’s sprawling villa, her anxiety had reached a fever pitch.

The grand structure loomed before her, its pristine walls and ornate gates exuding an air of power and intimidation. She fidgeted with the strap of her bag, hesitating at the imposing iron gate.

This morning had been chaotic. She’d woken early to help her sister, Veda, and her parents with Veda’s luggages as she departed for the train station.

In the back of her mind, she had hoped for a message from Veer–a simple text, a call, anything–but her phone had remained stubbornly silent. After she and her parent sees Veda off, she decided to take matters into her own hands and visit him directly.

It was her first time coming to his villa. She’d never had a reason to visit before, as the only place she associated with him was her school, few ice cream parlours, or a restaurant and other casual places.

But Veer had once casually given her this address, and today, curiosity—or desperation—had driven her here.

As Meera stood there, gathering her courage, a uniformed security guard appeared on the other side of the gate.

He was polite but imposing, his sharp eyes studying her as if evaluating whether she was a threat.

“Good day, ma’am. Can I help you?” he asked, his tone formal but distant.

Meera jumped slightly at his sudden appearance but quickly tried to compose herself.

“Uh... hi. My name is Meera.” she stammered, her voice unsteady. “I’m looking for Veer—I mean, Ranveer Luthra.”

The guard’s expression didn’t change.

“I’m sorry, ma’am, but Sir isn’t available.” he replied curtly.

“What?” Meera blinked, her confusion growing. “He’s not here? Did he travel or out for something important?”

The guard shook his head firmly. “I can’t disclose his whereabouts. My boss isn’t available. Perhaps you can come back another time. Good day, ma’am.”

With that, he turned and walked away, leaving Meera standing there, stunned and hopeless. The gate remained firmly shut, an unyielding barrier between her and the answers she sought.

“What is going on?” Meera whispered to herself, her heart sinking. She glanced at the villa one last time, her mind racing, and then it hit her like a jolt of lightning.

Arjun.

The memory of that night when Arjun had cornered her, his words laced with threats about harming Veer, came rushing back. Her hand flew to her mouth as her breath caught in her throat.

“Oh my God.” she whispered, panic flooding her veins.

Turning on her heel, she walked briskly down the street, rummaging through her purse with trembling hands until she found her phone.

Her fingers fumbled as she scrolled through her contacts, searching for the name she dreaded calling.

Arjun.

When she found it, she hesitated for only a moment before contemplating if she should call or visit him in his office.

After a thought, she decided to go see him.

She needed answers!

♡♡♡

Half an hour later, Meera stood in front of the towering glass building, the A.M Empire, again. The sleek structure glinted under the sunlight, a testament to his power and influence.

She took a deep breath, paid the cab driver, and stepped out onto the pavement. Her nerves were frayed, but she had no choice—she needed answers.

As she walked through the grand entrance, she felt a wave of unease.

Maya barely glanced up, too accustomed to the parade of important visitors to notice Meera’s anxiety.

Without stopping, she headed down to the elevator, her destination clear, Arjun’s office.

Her thoughts churned as she walked.

What would she say to him?

Would he even give her the answers she sought?

She was so lost in thought that she didn’t notice someone walking toward her until they collided, papers scattering everywhere.

“Damn it!” the person cursed softly, crouching down to gather the fallen documents.

“Oh my gosh, I’m so sorry!” Meera exclaimed, immediately dropping to her knees to help. She grabbed a few sheets, and as she handed them over, she froze. It was Arjun’s PA.

“Miss Meera?” he asked, adjusting his glasses and giving her a puzzled look as he stood up, clutching the papers.

“Hi.” Meera said, forcing a small smile despite the tight knot of tension in her stomach.

“It’s rare to see you here, Miss Meera.” he remarked, his brow furrowing slightly. “Especially now that the project is complete. Is everything all right?”

Meera cleared her throat, trying to appear composed.

“Uh, yeah, everything’s fine. I just… I need to see Mr. Madhav. Is he in his office?”

The PA tilted his head, clearly surprised.

“My boss? Yes, he’s here.” he replied, then hesitated. “But he’s currently in a very important meeting. If you’d like, you can wait for him in his office. I’ll let him know you’re here as soon as he’s available.”

Meera bit her lip, frustration bubbling beneath the surface.

She didn’t have time to wait—she needed to see Arjun now. But causing a scene wouldn’t help her case.

“How long will the meeting last?” she asked.

“About an hour.” the PA said with a polite smile, seemingly unaware of her growing impatience.

An hour felt like an eternity, but Meera forced herself to nod.

“All right. Thank you.”

“No problem, Miss Meera.” he replied, stepping aside. “If you’ll excuse me, I need to deliver these.”

“Of course.” Meera said softly, watching him hurry down the hall before sighing heavily.

Her feet felt heavy as she made her way to Arjun’s office. The large door loomed ahead, a barrier to the answers she desperately sought.

Pushing them open, she stepped inside and found the space cold and immaculate, as always.

Floor-to-ceiling windows offered a stunning view of the city skyline, but Meera barely noticed, as usual, her mind too occupied.

She sank into one of the chairs, her thoughts swirling.

Each passing second felt like an eternity, the silence in the office amplifying her unease.

Arjun wasn’t a man you approached lightly, and she knew the conversation ahead would be anything but easy.

Clenching her hands in her lap, she stared at the door, waiting for the moment he would walk in and demand to know why she was there.

Her heart raced at the thought, but she steeled herself. Whatever it took, she was going to get the truth.

The meeting finally concluded, and as the executives filed out, Arjun strode confidently from the conference room, his sharp features calm but commanding.

His assistant followed closely behind, clutching a tablet filled with schedules and notes.

“Any other meetings today?” Arjun asked, his tone brisk as his polished shoes echoed against the sleek marble floor.

“Yes, sir. There’s one scheduled for 3 PM.” the assistant replied promptly.

“Cancel it.” Arjun said without missing a beat. “I have more important business to attend to.”

“Understood, sir.” the assistant nodded, quickly typing the update.

“Oh, sir.” he added, glancing up nervously. “Miss Meera is here to see you. She’s waiting in your office.”

Arjun stopped in his tracks, his expression sharp and unreadable as he turned to face his assistant.

“Meera?” he asked, his tone low but filled with curiosity.

“Yes, sir. She’s—”

The assistant didn’t get a chance to finish his sentence. Arjun had already turned on his heel, striding purposefully down the hall. His steps were quick, deliberate, and filled with an urgency that surprised even him.

Meera is here?

The thought alone sent a rush of emotions through him—annoyance that his assistant hadn’t told him sooner, but also a strange, unexpected sense of joy. She was here, in his office, and she hadn’t come for Siddhartha or anyone else—she was here for him.

A rare smile tugged at his lips, one he couldn’t suppress even if he wanted to. His mind raced with possibilities, but one thing was certain.. he was pleased.

When he reached the door to his office, he pushed them open without hesitation, the force of his entrance startling Meera, who had been seated in one of the sleek leather chairs. She jumped to her feet, her breath hitching as she turned to face him.

Their eyes locked, and for a brief moment, the room seemed to shrink. Arjun’s gaze softened, a flicker of surprise and satisfaction crossing his face. She was here. Not in his dreams, not in some fleeting fantasy, but standing before him, very real.

“Meera.” he said softly, his deep voice filling the room as he closed the door behind him with a deliberate click.

Meera swallowed hard, her heart racing as she clenched her fists at her sides.

She was nervous—no, terrified—but she had come here for a reason, and she wouldn’t back down now.

“H-hey, Arjun.” she stammered, her voice shaky as she forced herself to meet his gaze.

Arjun’s lips curled into a faint smile as he began to move toward her, his steps slow but steady. “Wow.” he said, a low chuckle escaping him. “This is… unexpected. But a welcome surprise.”

He stopped just a little too close to her, his presence overwhelming in the confined space.

Meera instinctively stepped back, her pulse quickening. She felt like a deer cornered by a predator, and Arjun noticed. His brow furrowed for a moment at her retreat, but he quickly brushed it off, his smile returning, though it didn’t quite reach his eyes this time.

“You came all the way here just to see me.” he mused, his voice smooth and filled with intrigue. “To what do I owe the honor?”

Meera hesitated, her throat dry as she struggled to find her voice.

She had prepared for this, rehearsed what she would say a hundred times in her head, but standing this close to him made every word she’d planned vanish.

“I… I needed to talk to you.” she managed, her voice barely above a whisper.

Arjun tilted his head slightly, his piercing gaze never leaving her face.

“Talk to me?” he echoed, his tone both amused and curious. “Well, I’m all ears.”

Meera took a shaky breath, trying to steady herself. She couldn’t let him intimidate her, not when so much was at stake.

“It’s about Veer.” she said, her voice firming as she summoned her courage.

At the mention of Veer, something flickered in Arjun’s eyes—an emotion she couldn’t quite place. His smile faded slightly, replaced by a more serious expression.

“Veer?” he repeated, his voice cold now, the warmth gone as quickly as it had appeared.

Meera nodded, steeling herself for whatever came next. She didn’t know how this conversation would end, but she knew one thing, she wouldn’t leave until she knows exactly where Veer is.
