Chapter 43: Chapter 42 - Goodbye

Olivia POV I must’ve fallen asleep because I wake up cuddled up to Raphael, I feel so small sitting on his lap holding on to him.

I blink my eyes and I take a deep breathtaking in his scent, I missed this, I missed feeling him close to me.

“Hey” – I say looking up at him to find his eyes on me, his beautiful blue eyes.

“Hey” – he says planting a kiss on the top of my head.

I realize we are still in the hospital so with one movement I get up and start looking around.

“Has the doctor been around?”

“Yes, he’s waiting for his parents to arrive so he can debrief them about John’s condition”

“oh, I really hope he is okay, they haven’t told me anything”

“I know”

“You know I would never ask if it wasn’t important” – I say looking at him while I play with one strand of my hair.

“what is it? Anything for you” – Raphael says while he stands up and towers over me “Could you use your influence and see how he is?”

Raphael grins and walks away without saying another word. I start pacing while I wait, I am not a very patient person and my anxiety usually takes the best of me.

It felt like hours until I saw Raphael walking back with a cup of coffee for me. He passes it into my hand with a cheese toastie.

“I thought you might be hungry”

“Oh, thanks” – I say while my stomach decides to agree with him and make a massive noise.

“So” – he says while he sits on one of those uncomfortable chairs – “I spoke to the doctor”

“What did he say?” – I ask taking a seat next to him Raphael places his big hand on my knee and looks deep into my eyes.

“I am sorry, he’s in a coma, they don’t know when or if he will wake up”

“No, no” – I get up and start pacing again – “He can’t” – I say while tears flood my eyes “Hey, hey look at me” – Raphael says now standing next to me placing his finger under my chin to make me look into his eyes “They are doing the best they can”

“Who did this Raphael?”

“I don’t know” – he says and I can feel anger in his voice “Was it because of you?” – I ask taking one step back “Maybe”

“Go away” – I say getting pissed off with the fact he didn’t even try to lie about it, he could’ve said no, but he said maybe, and because of him my best friend might be a vegetable for the rest of his life “Olivia, be reasonable”

“No, Fuck you, Raphael, since you came into my life everything went down to shit, I can’t take it anymore”

“Olivia, I didn’t know you were going to be there, I have been trying to keep you safe, I would never do anything to hurt you”

“Says the guy that shattered my heart into a million pieces, fuck you Raphael”

Anger takes over him and I feel his grip tighten around my writs that he was now holding. His eyes go darker and I bit my lip and lower my gaze avoiding his eyes Without hesitation, he tilts my head up and his lips meet mine, and with that I allow myself to kiss him, I tell myself it will be our last kiss, but who am I trying to bullshit? This man has a power over me that I can’t get away from.

I push him away taking control of my breathing.

“Don’t you fucking touch me”

“That mouth of yours will get you into trouble” – he says “Don’t come near me Raphael, I am serious”

“Olivia, I need you”

“No you don’t, you think you do”

“Olivia, fucking look at me”

I look into his eyes and I see for the first time ever sadness.

“I am in love with you”

I feel as if the floor started to pin, I can’t breathe properly and I allow my body to collapse on my knees on the floor, almost at the same time he falls on his knees in front of me.

“Olivia, did you hear me? I am in love with you”

“You can’t” – I cry “Why not?” – he says while his fingers putt some of my hair behind my ear.

“Because I don’t want you” – I say looking him dead in the eyes and I see them shifting, from sadness to anger.

“Are you fucking with me right now?”

“No” – I say while tears fall down my face – “I can’t be living in fear, I can’t do it, Raphael, I can lose my best friend because of you, because of the people you deal with, you have a dangerous life and I am not willing to be a part of it”

Raphael stands up and I can see he is avoiding looking at me.

“Is that what you want?”

“Yes”

“Goodbye Olivia” – he says and I allow myself to sob on the floor.

I pull myself together and sit on the chair. My face in the middle of my hands while I think how stupid I am, How could I have done it? I love that man, I just needed him to hurt as much as I am hurting right now.

I get up and start running towards the exit of the hospital. With a little bit of luck, I will be able to catch him, I just need to run faster, I take off my shoes and I run.

I see Raphael walking fast towards his car.

“Raphael” – I call him He doesn’t look back “Raphael” – I shout again Nothing, he closes the door of the car and I see it leaving me behind. I stop running and I grab my phone from the pocket of John’s jacket.

I unlock it and start calling Raphael. But nothing happens as he is on another call.

“Shit” – I let out I start looking at my phone while I bit my lower lip.

“Michael” – I say out loud I look for his number and I start calling and when he picks up a smile shows up on my face.

“Mike, It’s me, Olivia”

“Hey, I am not allowed to talk to you”

“What?”

Silence “Mike?”

“Boss gave the order to leave you alone”

“I need to talk to him, please”

Silence “Mike, please I fucked up”

“I can’t” – he says “Mike, please I came running after him but he was too fast”

Silence “Don’t make me beg” – I whisper “I’ll see what I can do”

“Okay”

Michael hangs up and I stand there, barefoot in the middle of the sidewalk, looking at my phone as if my life depended on it.

Michael POV My phone is ringing and I see that it is Olivia calling “Boss it’s Olivia, what do you want me to do?”

“Answer it, and tell her you are not allowed to talk to her anymore”

“Mike, It’s me, Olivia”

“Hey, I am not allowed to talk to you”

“What?”

I sigh – “She is pissed off boss”

“I don’t want anyone around her anymore” – the boss says and I focus on Olivia again while I put my phone on speaker.

“Mike?”

“Boss gave the order to leave you alone”

“I need to talk to him, please”

Silence “Mike, please I fucked up”

“I can’t” – he says “Mike, please I came running after him but he was too fast”

“Don’t make me beg” – I whisper “I’ll see what I can do”

“Okay”

I end the call and when I look at the mirror I can see the Boss looking out of his window, It’s been a while since I’ve seen him this quiet.

“Boss, are you okay?”

“She told me to go away”

“She didn’t mean it boss, that girl only has eyes for you”

“Is that why yesterday she was sucking someone else’s face?”

“Boss”

“I don’t want to hear it, block her number”

“Sure”
