Chapter Two: The One Without a Mask

The Six Realms were old. Older than memory. Older than names.

1. The Heavenly Realm - realm of spiritual beings, immortals, deities. Floating palaces, skies that never darken, and laughter that echoes through incense clouds.

2. The Mortal Realm - where humans live, fight, love, and forget. The only realm where time bites.

3. The Demon Realm - forbidden, corrupted. Twisted by greed and cursed power. Only ruin breathes there.

4. The Beast Realm - untamed and wild. Home to phoenixes, qilins, dragons, and creatures too old to bow.

5. The Underworld Realm - the realm of spirits and judgment. Quiet. Cold. Always watching.

6. The Void Realm - the broken one. Once a realm, now only whispers. Nothing enters. Nothing leaves.

---

"He's coming back?"

Yao leaned into her grandfather, her eyes wide, voice full of wonder.

The old man nodded, gently sipping his tea under the tree. "He went to the Mortal Realm."

"Why would someone from Heaven go down there?" she asked, tugging his sleeve.

He chuckled, brushing her hair behind her ear. "To learn what the Heavenly Realm couldn't teach him."

"What's that?"

"Regret."

---

The Heavenly Realm moved like breath - clouds shifting, light bending to beauty. But today, the clouds thinned. The skies buzzed with energy.

The Sovereign King was returning.

Younger brother to the Heavenly King. Powerful, mysterious, rarely seen. He had disappeared into the Mortal Realm for over seventy years. The reason? Unknown. His return? A spectacle.

All of the Heavenly Realm had been called to witness it.

But only those with centuries of cultivation, long-living immortals, ancient fairies, and high-level spirits were permitted to enter the Chengxu Pavilion, a palace carved from sapphire and stardust.

The rest? They'd gather around Cloudheart Lake, where the Mirror of Purity - a giant hovering pool of glowing blue-white mist - would reflect everything that happened inside the grand hall.

Fairies born not long ago, squealed in anticipation and joy. They had never met him but they have heard of him and they couldn't wait to see him.

They had heard of his beauty, charisma and most importantly, his powerful magic.

It mattered the most to Heavenly beings how powerful a person is.

Cultivation was taken seriously in the realm.

That's for sure.

Sixuan had also been summoned.

Not as a guest. Not as a curiosity. As the Protector Leader.

But the rules of the Chengxu Pavilion were firm: no weapons, no deceit, no masks. Everyone must enter as they truly were - bare and open in presence and intention.

For Sixuan, that meant showing her face.

And that had not happened in... centuries.

---

"It's unnecessary," one of her warriors growled. "A trap, maybe."

"They only want to see the face behind the blade," another muttered.

"They never respected us. Now they want a show."

"Stupid immortals! How could they disrespect you this much?" Another spat harshly.

She stood in the middle of the room, calm, armored except for the absence of her usual mask. Her voice was low but clear.

"They can't mock what they fear," she said. "And I am not ashamed of the face I wear."

"But my Lord—"

Her red robes whispered across the cold stone floor as she turned. "You worry too much. It's just skin."

---

"The Leader of the Protectors!!!" An immortal attendant announced behind closed doors.

The doors to Chengxu Pavilion opened.

Silence didn't just follow her in - it bowed.

Every being present turned. Every conversation died.

They had expected a warrior. A weapon. A man.

What they got... was a vision in red.

Her robes were elegant but strong - fitted at the waist, layered and flowing. The color bled like war.

Her untied hair cascaded like dark silk down her back, sharp silver streaks glowing under the heavenly lights.

Her expression? Blank. Calm. Dangerous.

Even the Heavenly King stared.

Even the Sovereign.

She bowed slightly to the throne.

"Lady......" The Heavenly King trailed off, clearly unsure of what to call her.

"Sixuan" She said firmly.

He looked at the scroll in his hands, blinking thrice, just to be sure he was seeing right.

It indeed was the Leader of the Protectors.

"Lady Sixuan" He rose from his silver throne

"You honor us with your presence."

"I was summoned," she said. "So I came."

Several nobles exchanged glances. Some looked amused. Some confused.

The Sovereign King stepped forward, his robes soft blue, his face young but marked by something older.

"I've heard much about you."

"Then you've heard enough."

A pause.

"I didn't expect you to be... you."

She tilted her head. "What were you expecting?"

"A weapon. Not a woman."

She stepped closer, not threatening - just firm.

"I'm both."

He smiled. Just a little. She didn't.

---

The ceremony continued. Tea was poured - celestial lotus brewed under starlight. A symbol of purity and peace.

Sixuan sat far off to the side, near no one. She sipped her tea slowly, eyes flicking around but never settling.

The Sovereign watched her.

After the formalities, the hall relaxed. Music played again. Spirits talked. Fairies floated. But his gaze didn't leave her.

He approached as she stood.

"Red suits you," he said.

"It's the color of blood. I figured it was appropriate."

"That's comforting."

She raised an eyebrow, her gaze flicking to the silver blade, cold with frost

"Do you like swords?"

"Only the ones that look like you."

"I'm not a sword"

He smiled and rolled his eyes.

She walked away.

He smiled. Again.

---

Later, a golden-robed attendant approached her.

"Lady Sixuan, the Heavenly King wishes to see you. Alone."

She followed him to the Moonwatch Balcony, high above the pavilion. The stars felt closer there.

The Heavenly King stood with his hands behind his back.

"You don't like my brother."

"I don't like people who assume things."

"He's... curious. And dangerous. Like you."

She stepped beside him, staring at the stars. "Curiosity kills."

"So does silence."

"You summoned me for a warning or a chat?"

He chuckled. "You're blunt. I admire it."

"I'm busy."

He smiled, but his eyes remained unreadable. "You should be careful around him"

She stepped back.

"You both need to be careful around me,"

He laughed - a genuine one. Rare.

She turned to leave.

"Both of you have lost your minds," she muttered.

The stars twinkled like they agreed.

And down below, the Sovereign King was still looking up - like maybe, just maybe, he hadn't come back from the Mortal Realm empty-handed after all.

Maybe, just maybe, he had found something to keep him here.

He might not have any reason to go to the mortal realm for now.

There's Sixuan.

It should be fun.
