âA wife, a career woman, then a mother.â Scarlet chanted. âI donât know, I think I will always be a mother, a wife then a career woman.â
âHow about just a career woman and we forget about the hubby and the kids.â
âI think thatâs impossible.â Scarlet patted the side of her belly.
âDefinitely impossible.â Kayla laughed.
âWhat about you? You think of getting into the newspaper business. You would be awesome at it.â Scarlet suggested.
âI think about it from time to time. Solara thinks that I should take a whack at it, but I donât think I can leave my family behind and go to Washington.â
âArenât you the one who said that I should be a career woman?â
âI know, I know. But this place is my home and although I donât get out that much I canât leave this place.â
âI know what you mean.â Scarlet trailed Kaylaâs eyes as she looked around the massive stone mansion.
This was their home, the place where their son was raised and where Jade found a family. It would also be the place where her daughter would be born. Leaving the house they now formed their huge family and called it home would be impossible.
Scarlet got an idea, it was something that Kayla would never consider before their new life, but now she was going to consider it.
âHow about you work for the local newspaper?â Scarlet waited for her to shut her down but when Kayla was silent for a while she knew she was thinking about it.
âThe King County Chronicles? I promised myself that I wouldnât work for a small-town paper but now with my family and new life, maybe. They do have good material.â Kayla thought about it.
âDonât think of it as a small-town newspaper. Think of it as a job that you love and the nearest office to your home is the town.â
âThe nearest office to my home.â Kayla chuckled, âSure why not, but on the condition that you also go after your dreams.â
âRight now that is impossible.â Scarlet patted the side of her belly, âI have to get this one out, make sure she can walk, talk and eat on her own. As soon as she can take care of her self then I will get back to work.â
âI get it because I donât think you will be able to go walk a hundred meters with all that weight wearing you down.â Kayla teased.
âHa, ha,â Scarlet said sarcastically.
âAnyway I canât go to work now, maybe after the kids are settled in school and the baby is born. I need to make sure everything is alright.â
Scarlet knew what she meant and she too feared that it would happen, âYou are worried that I will go to siesta land for months when the baby is born?â
âHonestly I am. I want to be there for the baby in case you do. I am only watching your back and covering all the bases, it doesnât mean I wish the worst for you.â Kayla gave Scarletâs hand a supportive squeeze.
âI know that and I appreciate it. With you and Stephan beside me, I know itâs all going to be fine.â
Kayla could hear the engine of the Jaguar roar as Stephan drove up to the house. She went to the window and looked outside, âYour husband here and he seems to have something huge in the boot.â
She tried to see what it was but even with her superhuman sight, she couldnât see through the thick brown sack-like material. Stephan drove into the garage and Kayla decided to go after him.
âScarlet I think we need to go see what your husband is up to.â She held on to her and using the back door, the shortest route to they walked towards the garage.
They watched as he unloaded the sack and put it to the side then closed the garage door behind him.
âStephan?â Scarlet called out to him.
Slowly he lifted the garage door open then walked out but still shut the door behind him.
âIs there a problem my love?â he placed one hand on her belly and the other on her waist. âIs something wrong with the baby?â
âNo, I am just wondering why you are so secretive. Whatâs going on in that garage?â She peeped behind him.
âDonât worry about it you will soon know. By the way, to make you more comfortable I dropped Nikki and Susana at the airport this morningâ He smiled.
âOh?â Scarlet was surprised but a large part of her was excited. She appreciated what they had come to their home to do but was glad that they had finally left.
âI know you are happy about it, no need to act surprised.â Stephan mocked a cheeky grin on his face.
âWhat!â Scarlet laughed, âI donât mean anything negative, but I am glad they left.â
âOk then, I need to get back to the garage. Take her into the house and make sure she puts her feet up.â Stephan kissed her on the lips before turning back to the garage.
Scarlet opened her mouth to complain but shut it when Stephan disappeared on the other side of the garage door. âWhat is he up to?â
They stepped out of the way when Solara drove into the compound in the Mercedes. He stopped at the garage door and hooted. After a while, Stephan stepped out but he didnât let them in the garage instead he made them alight the car and drove it into the garage himself.
Scarlet watched in amazement, she never knew Stephan to keep Solara out of the loop, not until now.
âWhy didnât he even let Solara in?â
âBecause he knows that I will pick whatever he is hiding in there from Solaraâs mind,â Kayla explained.
âI was hoping for that. Oh well, I need to take a nap. Please help me to my room.â
âMom.â SJ and Jade shouted in unison. They ran towards their motherâs flagging a piece of paper.
âWhat is it?â
âWe got our permits.â SJ handed his to Scarlet, âSo about the cars.â
âAs soon as you can afford it.â Kayla echoed Solaraâs answer.
âMomma,â Jade whined.
âAre you kidding me?â SJ groaned.
âShe is, we canât let you walk to school, can we? Iâm going to take a nap, in the meantime find out what mischief your dad is up to then come and tell me.â She cupped her palm on SJâs jaw.
âYou want me to sneak up on and spy on dad? That is hilarious as well as impossible. You are going to have to wait and see for yourself.â SJ laughed.
