Getting Jaxson to the suite took a while, but was faster compared to if Adam hadnât helped. They got him up to the master bedroom that they had spent a mere half a night in together. âMy Prince, can I stay a moment?â Adam asked politely.
âOf course. I fear a guard will have to be present at all times, anyway.â
âVery true, my Prince.â
âWhat was that about Laura?â Jaxson queried, settling into the plush bed.
âPrefer to relay it to you when I do Jess. I canât be bothered to repeat myself.â
Jaxson sniggered quietly.
âSorry⦠I didnât mean for it to come-â
âDonât worry. Adam, get me some water, yeah?â
âCourse.â Adam looked concerned a moment before disappearing through the door.
Chris shuffled until he were next to his mate. âI donât like seeing you like this. Do you think marking would help?â
Jaxson slumped until his head rested on Chrisâ shoulder. âI donât know⦠butâ¦â He rubbed a finger over his canine over his flesh. âI canât.â
âWhat do you mean you-?!â Chris began in alarm before recognition slumped him back into the pillows. âOh⦠yeah.â The notion was uncomfortable that Jaxson didnât have his wolf in any capacity. Chrisâ wolf had come back almost thirty-six hours before. It hadnât been a long process at all.
Having a Royal wolf had its perks.
âWould it help If I mark you?⦠I mean, Iâll be able to heal your wounds.â
âI donât have any wounds. While yes, I want your mark⦠I want to do it together.â
Chris deflated a little against him, resting his head on the other maleâs. He understood, of course he did. He just worried they were waiting too long, they hadnât and they both got kidnapped, preventing it⦠now? They were being stalled by wolfsbane.
He didnât like it. He wanted to make it official.
âWe will. I promise. I donât want to feel like this while we do. Weâre making a commitment, a promise.â Jaxsonâs arm slid over Chrisâ stomach.
âI know youâre right. I feel impatient.â
âThatâs fine. Soon. Promise you.â
Chris waited for Adam to come back and take his leave when Jaxson fell asleep, before Chris stripped to his underwear, feeling the need for skin. Jaxsonâs skin. He slipped under the duvet, tangling his legs with Jaxson as he slept. He linked Jesse, explaining he couldnât leave Jaxson and relaid what happened with Laura.
Once the link was finished, he nuzzled into Jaxson happily, not caring he was fast asleep. âChris? Are you OK?â Klaraâs link came through.
âIâm fine. Sorry Iâve not been to see you.â
âItâs not always up to you. Youâve been busy. I heard Jaxson was found?â Klara asked kindly. She sounded bright, not as tired and sickly as she had been. Maybe all the herbal teas were doing her good.
âYeah, heâs sleeping.â Chris came out of the link enough to look at him, heâd rolled onto his side, facing the door. His quiet snores reverberated around the room.
Klaraâs link brought him back into his head. âDo you need anything? I do need to see your suite.â
Usually, he would accept. State, of course she could visit. The compliance was on the tip of his tongue âNo. Weâre fine. Iâll come see you when Jaxsonâs better.â
âNo problem. Just link if you need anything. Always here.â
âThanks. I wonât need anything.â If Jaxson needed anything, Chris would get it. He realised he probably sounded rude though. âLove you.â
âLove you too. I am here for you.â
âI know.â
Chris slid out of bed, Jaxson hadnât roused which was unsurprising. He padded downstairs, going into the kitchen he found it fully stocked. Jaxson would probably need something to eat once he woke, keep his metabolism going to burn the wolfsbane. He shoved an array of cured meat, cheese, fruit and bread on a platter, jumping when he heard a thud above him. Grabbing the crockery, he raced upstairs to find Jaxson grasping the doorframe, his face pale, fearful.
âJaxson?â Chris queried carefully, not wanting to spook him, but also wanting to alert him he was there.
âYou werenât there⦠you⦠I thoughtâ¦â he panted in hysteria.
Chris set the plate on the decorative table in the hall before grasping Jaxson around the waist. âIâm here. I didnât go anywhere.â
âI thought they took youâ¦â Jaxson slumped, his panic receding as he gripped him tightly around the waist, pressing his face firmly into Chrisâ neck.
âShh. Iâm sorry. Iâm fine. Weâre safe,â Chris soothed. âYou need to go back to bed. I brought you food.â He helped Jaxson back into the room, settling him in bed. âIâll just get the platter, you can see me,â he soothed, feeling the thump of anxiety in his chest as he stepped away.
Settling back into bed with the selection of food, he offered it to Jaxson. âIâm not hungry.â
âNo⦠but you need to burn the wolfsbane, please?â
Sighing, he complied, taking a chunk of cheese from the plate. âSorry⦠I didnât mean to panic,â he whispered before cramming the food into his mouth.
âI understand. Donât apologise.â
Jaxson shifted the plate from Chrisâ lap, his strength seeming to be returning. Setting it on the bedside table, he gripped Chris and manhandled him to lay down. He could only chuckle, allowing the large male to do as he wished. He soon found Jaxson splayed over him, an arm, leg and half his chest pinning him to the wool mattress. Jaxsonâs nose went back to Chrisâ neck, nuzzling and inhaling deeply. âHave to go through me to get you,â he muttered into his skin.
âNo one is coming, there are two guards stationed at the door. Two more further down the corridor.â
âGotta go through me,â he rumbled sleepily.
