"Alright. Everyone Move!", a German soldier yelled to the Americans around him.
Everyone swiftly stood up, rushing out of the cart as ordered once it had stopped. Helping each other down, they step foot onto the muddy ground. The clouds were grey and there were puddles everywhere. Looking around the open area of what looks to be a boot camp is settled in front of the group. Barbed wire fencing covering who knows how much land with cabins stationed almost everywhere.
There was a plethora of American soldiers littering the enemy camp. Some taking notice of those who have arrived are pushed up against the fences closest to them to see who made it in. Pushing the group forward, the soldiers make their way down the aisle lined with fencing. Soldiers are screaming at them, some being recognized. The Germans are keeping a close eye on them, ensuring they wouldn't make a move to escape. It was open field beyond them though they wouldn't get far without being sniped from the towers or run down from the guard dogs.
Y/N loves animals, especially large breeds of dogs, but here? There was no way. Teeth barred, and barking at everyone who passed, wanting to be released just to pull them to the ground was not a dog she would try to pet. She was definitely scared. Who wouldn't be?
She makes it through the crowd, pushing her way into an open area. She looks around once more before her eyes land on a man she recognized. Quite beat up but still the same handsome face she remembers. Exhaling a breath of relief, John Egan turns around looks shocked at the sight. A smile lights up her face and she doesn't hesitate to run towards the man. Meeting him in the middle, he stumbles back from the force Y/N put on him by practically running into him. She wraps her legs around his waist whilst he easily holds her up with his arms around her hips.
He buries his face into her neck and breathes her in. "I thought I lost you", he mumbles. "I looked for you, you know."
"Jesus Christ John. Never tell me to jump out of a plane again", she laughs.
"Either that or go down with the plane."
"Sometimes we've gotta make sacrifices."
He chuckles and pulls away from her neck. He places her back onto the ground and gets a good look at her face. Y/N does the same, bringing her hands up and putting them on either side of his face, his body involuntarily leaning into the touch as she analyzes his bruised eye.
"Who'd you piss off this time?", she asks, noticing the bruising was quite recent.
"Don't worry about it sweetheart", he says while giving her his charming smile.
Oh, how she's missed that sight.
"Did you put ice on it?"
"Yes, mom, I did."
Y/N rolls her eyes and takes her hands away to which Bucky's head had moved towards them slightly, yearning for her touch. Now, he can begin scanning her cut up figure more clearly, his eyes twisting with concern.
"And what happened to you?", he says while grabbing her hands and running his thumbs over the bruised skin. He then pulls up her sleeves, revealing the scratch marks that she had gotten a few days ago.
She shrugs. "I met a cute German man, and well, it turned into a one-night stand gone wrong", she jokes with a witty grin. "Quite unfortunate."
He looks her in the eyes with an 'are you serious' look. "You are unbelievable", he mutters bringing her hands up to his mouth, kissing the tender skin gently, the stubble from around his mouth scratching against her knuckles. He then places his hand on the back of the girl's head, bringing her closer and planting a kiss on the top of her head.
"Is Buck here too?", Y/N asks hopefully, observing all the men that walked around the camp.
"Yeah, he was just hanging out with the boys in our cabin."
"Oh, thank God", she lets out a breath she didn't know she was holding, her mind coming more at ease.
"Should we go get you settled in?"
Y/N nods her head and smiles gently, "Yeah... That would be nice."
She allows herself to be guided by Bucky towards his cabin. Walking through the doors, her eyes land on the table surrounded by some familiar and unfamiliar faces. They all turn to look at her. She walks up to the one blonde she could recognize, wrapping her arms around his shoulders from behind and giving him a small kiss on his cheek. He retaliates by placing his hand on her arm and giving it a squeeze.
"Glad to see you're alive Major. You had me worried for a bit."
He looks up and behind him to look her in the eyes and smiles, "Yeah, you too, Y/N"
Letting go of Buck, Y/N faces the table. "And hello to everyone else."
She gets greeted with the odd wave, and nod of the head, before the table goes back to whatever card game they were playing prior to her walking in.
Y/N looks for a bed that looks unoccupied and walks over to it. She takes off her jacket and sweater, placing them on the mattress. Goosebumps rise over her arms, but she was thankful that her tank top wasn't stained. She grabs a hair tie from her pant pocket and ties her hair up so it would be out of the way. There was a trunk under the bed full of clean clothes, so she grabbed a crewneck and put it on over her shirt.
She went to turn around to find Bucky when she was finished, but to her surprise, he was right beside her. He grabbed ahold of her arm and brought her into a separate room. He then let's go of her and pulls off a med kit from one of the walls.
"Are you gonna play nurse?", she asks, sitting on top of the desk as he makes his way to stand in front of her.
"You're pretty beat up", he replies, looking down into her eyes. "Take off your sweater", he instructs, opening the kit on the desk beside her.
She laughs lightly, "Take me out to dinner first." Grabbing the bottom of the sweater, she pulls it up and over her head, discarding it to the side.
He shakes his head and presses his tongue to the inside of his cheek at her comment. He grabbed a few alcohol wipes from inside the kit and holds onto her arms. "This is going to sting", he says before wiping down the wounds that littered her hands and arms. He was quite delicate with what he was doing, but that didn't stop the girl from wincing or hissing every so often.
He wrapped a few bandages around the more prominent cuts, then moved onto her head. He grabbed her chin and tilted her head to the side, examining the blow she had taken from both a blub and the butt of a gun.
"You didn't go without a fight, did you?"
"Don't think that I'd surrender."
"Atta girl", he smiles wiping off the dried blood from around her temple.
Bucky had stopped his medical care. He was finished, at least that's what Y/N thought, so when she looked back up to the man stood in front of her, you couldn't blame her for getting her breath caught in her throat.
The Major was already staring down at her, his hand now sliding down to the side of her neck as his thumb traces small patterns on her skin. Her gaze shifting between both of his eyes as his ran down to her lips, his breathing becoming unsteady.
She could feel his breath fanning over her face as he began to lean in slowly, making her lean back partly by placing her hands on the desk behind her.
"Bucky, what are you doing...?", she asks barely above a whisper gaining back his eyes.
Their faces were near centimeters apart, yet the gap kept closing. The man's eyes were glazed over with fondness, and he tried to speak, but each time he would close his mouth again, not being able to find the words he wished to express.
Buck clears his throat at the doorway causing Y/N to turn her head to the side as Bucky drops his.
"Sorry to interrupt, but uh, it's time for the radio", Buck explains, tapping his hand on the doorframe.
Bucky nods and moves away from Y/N, picking up the med kit and bringing it back to its original spot. "Are you coming too, Y/N?"
"Yeah, I'll uh... I'll be there in a minute."
The two men walk out of the room, and she could hear the faint voice of Bucky saying, 'come on man', while they walked down the hallway.
The girl's face was a deep shade of pink, and not just because of Buck coming in, but because Bucky had almost kissed her. And it wasn't like the moment they shared in the bar, no... It was different.
What the hell just happened
