Leahâs eyes glistened, and she put back her phone. She said, âI donât know what you mean by that, Charles. I just happened to record Sophiaâs voice while she was driving.â
She lifted her head to look at him and said softly, âThe police are already investigating this. They came to the conclusion that itâs an accident.
However, if I give them this voice recording, this will become an attempted murder. You know what this means, right, Charles?â
She was hurt very badly. After she finished saying that, she covered her mouth and coughed a few times. Her beautiful face looked even paler.
However, Charles did not feel bad for her. There was only anger that he could not hide. He squinted his eyes. It seemed like his sharp eyes would tear her apart. âAre you threatening me?â
âIâm just stating the facts. How am I threatening you?â Leah looked innocent. However, there was bitterness and pain in her eyes. âSophia did you wrong. Shouldnât you be happy if she were to spend the rest of her life in prison?â
Charles clenched his fist and peered at her coldly. Flames of rage were burning in his eyes.
âCharles, Sophia has been following you for so many years, but sheâs been having an affair the entire time. Sheâs entangled with my brother. I feel both sad for you and lamentable for my brother. Now that Sophia has done this, itâs only right to send her to prison,â Leah said.
The smell of disinfectant and medicine were mixed together. It was making Charles feel extremely frustrated. He frowned and said coldly, âYou have no business interfering with my and Sophiaâs business. Delete that voice recording.â
Leah was prepared for all kinds of outcomes. If Charles agreed to send Sophia to prison, it would mean he did not care about Sophia. If he had feelings for Sophia, it would be best if they disappeared after Sophiaâs affair.
However, it seemed like his feelings for Sophia were even more intense then Leah imagined. Since this was the case, she would just do this the other way.
She suppressed the sadness in her heart and shook her head at Charles. âIâm sorry, Charles. I canât delete this recording. If I do, there will be no evidence of Sophia wanting to kill me.â
Charles unclenched his fist and sat down on the chair. Then, he stood up again. He said with gritted teeth, âDo you think the police wonât be able to find out your little tricks?â
âFirst, I didnât do anything. Second, if you still donât believe me, you can ask the police to investigate this.â Leah bit her lip and smiled bitterly.
Charles stared at her for a while before turning around to leave.
However, when he just stepped out of the room, he was stopped by Leah. âCan you listen to me for a bit?â
â... Spit it out.â Charles did not turn around. He just spat out three words through gritted teeth after a short moment of silence.
Leah had been scheming and calculative since she was young. She was careful whenever she wanted to do something. Now, she was asking him to let the police investigate this, which meant she was confident they would not be able to find anything.
He could just stop caring about this. Sophia wronged him, and this was enough to be her punishment.
However, when he thought about how she was going to spend the rest of her life in prison... He could not understand what he was feeling, but he could not allow Leah to sue Sophia for attempted murder.
âEven if Sophia seduced my brother and cheated on you, even if she wants to kill me based on a misunderstanding... Weâve been best friends for so many years, I donât want to see her spend the rest of her life in prison.
âHowever, I wonât be able to convince myself to pretend the accident didnât happen.
âIf you can break Sophiaâs leg like how she broke mine, make her not be able to dance like me, and send her to East Suburb Prison for two years, Iâll agree to not sue her for attempted murder. Weâll be even.â
Leah laid on the bed. Her pale but beautiful face looked calm. It was as natural as if she was talking about what to eat for lunch.
Charles turned around to look at her. His face was cold. The veins on his neck were protruding. âYou want me to break one of her legs?â
East Suburb Prison housed all the fugitives. If they sent Sophia there, how would she be able to handle it? She had been pampered and spoilt all her life.
Leah shook her head. She said earnestly, âYou have to send her to prison for two years. Aunt Fisher and Uncle James have coddled Sophia too much, thatâs why she has the guts to kill now.
âItâs for her best to send her to prison for two years. Sheâll be more down to earth after spending her time in there, just in case she comes out and causes even bigger troubles.
âOh, right, before you send her to prison, ask the Whites to disown Sophia. If the inmates tolerate Sophia because of her family name, then my efforts will all be for nothing.â
The people in prison were all fugitives. How would they tolerate Sophia just because of her family name? It was obvious Leah wanted to use Charles to make the Whites disown Sophia.

Charlesâ gaze was as piercing as a thousand knives. They were shooting right at Leah, biting coldly and sharply. âDo you think the police are all idiots?â
âI just think itâs the fact.â Leah smiled. âI didnât say you have to agree with me right now. You can let the police consider whether to agree or not. Itâs fine even if you donât agree. Iâll just sue Sophia for attempted murder, then. Itâll have nothing to do with you anymore.â
Charles clenched his fists and averted his gaze. He strode out of the room.
âYou donât care about me even though I almost died...â Leah looked at his back and muttered. Then, she coughed while covering her mouth. Tears started streaming down her cheek again.
She could never dance from now on. She was truly upset. However, she was just exchanging a hobby with the opportunity to be with Charles. It was all worth it.
The night was cold, especially because it was windy.
Charlesâ nose felt cold. His limbs felt like they were being burnt by fire. He had been plotted against twice in two days. He was even betrayed by his fiancée. He had never felt as defeated as this before.
In the quiet night, the vibration of his phone sounded even more prominent.
Charles looked at the caller ID and picked up the phone. âMom, whatâs wrong?â
âYour grandpa heard about Sophâs attempted murder that was fueled from jealousy.â Yvetteâs voice sounded exhausted and helpless. âHe said we canât have a bad apple in our family.â
Charles tightened his grip on the phone. He recalled what he saw in Jonesâ Manor and said while furrowing his brows, âIâll cancel the engagement even if he didnât tell me to.â
âArenât you and Soph going well? Why all of a sudden...â Yevette asked.
