Chapter 155 of 493

Chapter 158

“Hah.” Charles snickered inexplicably. "You’re to bear the responsibility as her daughter, then. As someone who always attends to each and every aspect of a matter, do make sure that you teach Aunt Lewis well."

This might sound like a compliment, but from his tone of voice, it did not sound like a compliment at all.

"You must be joking, Charles. My parents have always called me silly, so how am I qualified enough to teach my mom anything?" Leah covered her mouth and chuckled.

The two might look as though they were on good terms, but their words carried hidden implications. A dark tide was surging. Audrey’s eyes wandered between the two. She was frowning from time to time, seemingly pensive.

William cocked up his ears and listened for a very long time but did not hear the answer that he was waiting for. He frowned and could not help but ask, "What did Dr. Hemingway say? Will Sophia's leg heal?"

"Most probably,” Leah replied first. She looked at her leg and let out a soft sigh. “Before this, a doctor said that Sophia's leg will go back to being normal again. Besides, Dr. Hemingway will be treating her himself this time anyway."

She let out a self-deprecating laugh. "She has better luck than I do. She might be able to dance again in the future. I’m quite envious of her."

"I was just asking. I wasn’t concerned about her." William turned his head to look at Leah in the back row, guilt and self-accusation evident in the depth of his eyes.

A touch of mockery appeared in Charles’ face as he watched the interaction between the siblings, though it was only for a fleeting moment.

Leah sighed and said softly, "Don't be so nervous, William. I was just expressing my emotions. I wasn’t blaming you."

"Leah is such a considerate sister who considers your feelings in every single aspect, yet you can’t stop thinking about the woman who has put Leah in this state today." Audrey sneered. "What a great brother you are, William!"

William looked askance at her and frowned. "I never said that I still like Sophia!"

"Sure, you didn’t say it, but you can’t stop thinking about her in your heart!" Audrey said sarcastically, "Don't forget, we just got engaged. If...”

Charles was not interested in watching them argue and interrupted Audrey straight away. "I don’t think it’s appropriate for me to stay here listening to your family affairs. Please excuse me."

"Wait, Charles." Leah bit her lip and called out to him. She said sincerely, "Is Sophia feeling better now? I’d like to visit her."

"Master Lewis is getting married next month. I’m sure that as his granddaughter, you will be very busy, so you really don't need to take time out of your busy schedule to visit Sophia," Charles said, tugging at his lower lip slightly.

The smile on Leah's face froze at his words. The expression on her face turned slightly grim.

"Goodbye." After watching the changes in her expression, Charles turned around and was prepared to leave.

Leah forced out a smile. "Since you’re not driving, why don’t you take our car, Charles?"

"Thanks, but no thanks." Charles sneered inexplicably and rejected her offer.

Leah bit her lip and said softly, "You don’t have to feel like you’re troubling us. We have known each other for so long. It's perfectly normal for us to give you a lift.”

She stared fixedly at him. Longing and bitterness were hidden in the depth of her eyes.

"You got the wrong idea." There were traces of indifference and sarcasm between Charles’ brows. "I’m just worried that the brakes of this car will malfunction and that will be the end of my puny life.”

Leah's pupils contracted and her jaws tightened when she heard the words “brakes malfunction’. For the first time ever, her resolve had been broken twice in a day.

"Mr. Harris is an extremely important person. I can’t afford to bear this responsibility if something happens to you while you’re in my car." William could not stand watching Charles giving his sister the cold shoulder. He put the car in gear and zoomed off.

When Zachary came over, he happened to catch the tail of the car. "That... is the Jones family’s car?"

"Yeah." Charles glanced in the direction where the car left with dark and serene eyes, then he turned to look at him. "Send me back to the hospital and take your little lover away."

Zachary held the car key in his hand and looked askance at him. "Hmm? If I’m not mistaken, I remember that someone just dumped me and tried to leave on his own?”

"I have something to ask Sophia in private." Charles snatched the car key from his hand and walked toward the Porsche not far away. "My driver's license has been revoked. You’ll drive."

Zachary followed him wearing a look of surprise and mockery. "Your driver's license has been revoked? You, Harris Corporation’s president, with a net worth of tens of billions, had your driver’s license revoked and even have to retake the test? This is plain..."

He gave Charles a thumbs up. "Plain fancy!"

"I am a human too, not a God. It is normal to have my driver's license revoked." Charles opened the door and sat in the front passenger seat. He frowned in an almost imperceptible manner and said to him, "You reincarnated from a snail?"

Zachary jumped into the driver's seat and slammed the door shut, snapping. "You’re taking my car, asking me to be your driver, and now you’re criticizing me for being too slow! Your arrogance is sky-high, Charles!"

"I went up in a hot air balloon and flew in a plane. Those were all sky-high. I've already gone up to the sky, thanks," Charles fastened his seat belt and said, looking ahead.

Clara was chattering to Sophia about Master Lewis when she heard someone knocking twice on the door.

"Come in." Sophia motioned to Clara to stop talking for a moment before speaking.

The door clicked open. Charles and Zachary walked in one after another.

Charles actually knew how to knock on the door? Sophia pursed her lips, finding it somewhat strange. He would be polite enough to knock on the door when he was somewhere else, but for some reason or perhaps the two had grown too familiar with each other, he had never knocked on her door when he entered her territory.

"Mr. H-h-h-harris!" Clara went from being animated to being crestfallen in no time. She stood up and stuttered her greetings.

Zachary was exasperated by her cowardice and walked up to grab her by her back collar before dragging her outside.

"What are you doing?!" Clara flopped about vigorously. "I still have a lot of things to say to Sophia! I'm not leaving!"

As she could not break free, she turned her head around and attempted to bite.

Zachary had long anticipated her reaction and pinched her upper and lower lips deftly. "Stop messing around. A customer just came in. I think he has no money to fight a lawsuit and was wrongly accused."

"Someone was wrongly accused?" Clara stopped flopping about upon hearing his words. Now, she was the one dragging him out instead. "Quick, quick, quick, quick, quick. We must prove his innocence!"

She dropped her head and walked to the door in a haste before retracing her steps again. "Sophia, I will come and visit you next time. Don’t forget what we just said!"

Chapter 157 You Fell In Love With Her?

When her voice fell, she was already gone like the wind.

Sophia stared at Clara the whole time. She loathed and despised her past self who was stupid enough to believe in everyone. However, when she saw an innocent woman like Clara, she could not help but feel envious of her.

She pursed her lips and retracted her gaze. When her eyes accidentally met Charles’, she realized that he seemed to have been watching her for a long time. At this moment, she wanted to say something but stopped on second thought.
