Chapter 179

Charles' pupils reflected Sophia's furious and resentful face. He felt a pang in his heart.

Back then, she used to follow him around all day. Was this how uncomfortable she felt when he did not respond to her feelings?

"You have nothing to say now?" Sophia squeezed every single word out of her teeth, "Charles, do you think that it is my inherent ability to love you?

That I should continue to love you even after you’ve tortured me for two years because of a ridiculous misunderstanding?

"Yes, I was a fool for hugging a man in erotic underwear just because someone challenged me to do so. I am in the wrong for causing this misunderstanding! I am also willing to accept the punishment for my mistakes. You can break off the marriage contract with me or even chastise me!

"But you didn’t ask me anything and assumed that I was cheating on you. You broke my leg, sent me to prison, and made me work in a place like Dream Club to humiliate me... Don’t you think you’ve gone too far?!"

She was almost screaming when she said the last sentence.

The door clicked and split open into a tiny crack, revealing the hem of Megan's clothes. However, the crack vanished almost immediately when the door was closed from the outside.

Standing outside, Megan had her nerves kept on tenterhooks. She feared that Charles and Sophia would teach her a lesson, but they seemed to be completely unaffected by it like they had not heard the movements earlier at all.

Charles looked at Sophia's crimson and resentful eyes. His heart was aching so much that it felt as though someone was seizing and pulling the tenderest flesh in his heart back and forth.

He pursed his lips and wanted to raise his hand to wipe her tears, but he could not move because he was under anesthesia.

He moved his lips and wanted to say something. There were clearly a bunch of things that he wanted to say, but there seemed to be something stuck in his throat as he could not utter a single word.

For the first time in his life, he knew what regret tasted like.

Their eyes met. For a long time, neither of them spoke. Every inch of air in the ward felt like it was compressed. Even the desire to breathe had become a luxury.

"Sometimes, I really want to kill you!" Sophia put her hand on his neck, tightening slowly. "I will be free if I killed you!"

The strength in her hand was proof that she was not joking.

The color on Charles' face changed because his breathing was impeded. He looked slightly wretched, but his eyes remained deep and serene. They carried not the slightest fluctuation, like the person getting choked was not him.

"I can't move now, so you can try," He looked at her and said mildly.

The strength in Sophia’s hands increased as she screamed at the top of her voice, "You think I don’t dare to do it?"

"You weren’t even afraid to kill yourself, so what else don’t you dare to do?" Charles' voice sounded slightly hoarse because he was being choked by her. Even so, he remained calm. "You can do it now."

Sophia's anger and hatred reached its climax when she saw how sure he looked knowing that she would not hurt him. She straightened up her body slightly, exerting more strength in her hands.

She did not want to live anymore anyway. She could kill him and then commit suicide. With that, she would truly be free!

As the strength in Sophia's hands increased, Charles' face gradually turned purple. Even his breathing had turned heavy and raspy. Despite that, he continued to stare at her without any surges in his eyes, showing not the slightest trace of fear that death would bring.

Perhaps it was because of insufficient oxygen supply, but he parted his dry lips as sweat flowed down his forehead profusely.

Sophia looked at his deep and serene eyes and panted heavily. Sweat flowed ceaselessly from her cheeks onto her blouse. After a while, the strength in her hand no longer increased. She let go of him abruptly as she stepped aside with a sullen look on her face.

"You still care about me." Charles coughed twice. His good-looking face was still flushed. Anyone could see that he was uncomfortable, but even so, a layer of smile stained the depths of his eyes.

His words triggered a flash of panic in Sophia's eyes. She turned around and looked at him, saying sarcastically, "I didn’t kill you because I was afraid that I would dirty my hands!"

Charles did not answer. However, he seemed to be in a good mood.

His demeanor made Sophia irritable for some reason. She looked askance at him with frosty eyes. "I didn’t kill you right now because I still need to use you!"

"It didn’t take you long to change your excuse." Charles' breathing gradually steadied. He looked the same, but the depth of his eyes carried an extremely faint banter.

Sophia’s complexion alternated between red, blue, and white, looking like an overturned palette. She was eager to prove that she did not kill him because he was actually useful. "You think I’m making excuses?”

Charles raised his eyebrows slightly without a word.

"Leah has planned so many set-ups just to be with you. She will be the most miserable person out there if we’re together!" Sophia said with a frown.

Charles was smiling even more now. "So you agree to be with me?"

"..." Sophia wrinkled her brows so much that a lump was formed. "Will you let me go if I don’t?"

Charles replied, "No."

He paused for a moment, then looked at her and said seriously, "Leah will feel even more miserable if you marry me and have two children with me.”

"Charles Harris!" Sophia squeezed these words from the gaps of her teeth, looking beyond forbidding.

The smile in Charles' eyes diminished slightly. "If you stay with me, I will do my best to make up for the mistakes I made. As long as you promise to stay with me, I will help you to take revenge against Leah, the Jones family, and anything else."

His Adam’s apple rolled slightly. The burning sensation in his neck had yet to subside. “You can do anything you want to me provided that you don’t kill me. This is an extremely good deal for you. At the very least, this is a much better deal for you compared to walking away with nothing. What do you think?"

Sophia looked grim but was in no rush to refuse.

Like what Charles said, the conditions that he had put forward was worth so much more than if she was to leave with nothing. Most importantly, she had no way of leaving at all!

Judging from the current situation, the best choice was to agree to his conditions.

Though emotionally, getting together with him was something that she could not accept. The things he had done to her were enough to make her hate him for a lifetime!

Knock, knock, knock!

Someone knocked on the door suddenly.

Sophia was getting caught in a dilemma. She took several steps back and sat on the hospital bed. "Come in."

Atrophy of Love: Mr. Harris, Stop Fooling Around!

Chapter 178 This Was Not Love At All The door clicked open. Yvette walked in, followed by a servant who was carrying two thermos barrels in her hands.

"Why is Charles here?" Yvette looked slightly surprised when she saw Charles lying on the escort bed clad in a patient’s attire.

Sophia pursed her lips, lowered her head, and held her tongue.

"I hurt my hand by accident when I was peeling an apple," Charles said nonchalantly.

After hearing his words, Sophia looked up at him and quickly lowered her head again.

"Why are you hospitalized if you hurt your hand from peeling an apple?" From his complexion, he did not look like he was suffering light injuries.

Yvette walked over. "Show me your wound."

Charles stretched out the palm of his hand to show her. "I was thinking about something when I was peeling the apple and I mistook the blade for the handle."

Yvette glanced at the wound on his palm, hummed a response, and said pointedly, "My child has grown up. There are more things for him to worry about now."

Would a person sustain such injuries from peeling an apple? This was a pretty poor excuse.
