Chapter 182

Sophia threw her patient’s attire on the bed, then walked to the side of his bed. She moved so close to him that she was almost touching his face.

She said sarcastically, “You just said that you will agree to all my conditions as long as I promise to stay. You’re going back on your words so soon?"

This wild and arrogant attitude of hers did somewhat match up to her past self.

The two were so close that their breathing intertwined. She was reflected in Charles’ pupils. While there was still a tinge of bitterness in his heart, the coldness on his body had dissipated a little.

He realized that the little kid who was always on his tail saying that she would marry him had grown up. She had grown into a very beautiful woman too.

However, the scar at the end of her eyebrow looked offending to his eyes.

His gaze made Sophia uncomfortable. She mocked, "You have nothing to sa..."

A sudden and warm touch on her lips made her swallow the rest of her words. Her pupils contracted slightly. She was momentarily stunned.

Did Charles just stick out his tongue and lick her?

Smack!

After realizing what had happened, Sophia slapped Charles instinctively and took several steps back with a forbidding look on her face. She rubbed vigorously at her lips that he had just touched and glared at him.

"What happened?" Victor pushed the door and walked in when he heard the commotion inside.

Sophia was glaring furiously at Charles. Apart from the grim look on her face, she looked pretty much unscathed. The latter, however, had a striking slap mark on his good-looking face. The loud noise he heard earlier must have come from this slap on his face.

"Nothing." Charles said mildly, "My girlfriend is just throwing a temper tantrum."

Victor raised his eyebrows slightly and turned his head to look at Sophia.

"Let's go." Sophia did not say anything. She rubbed her lips with a sullen look on her face and strode out.

Victor followed behind her and walked out. However, after taking just two steps, Charles called out to him and said, "My girlfriend is mad and may sound quite harsh when she talks to you. Please excuse her, Dr. Hemingway."

"Don't worry, Mr. Harris. I may not have many strengths and merits, but I must admit that I have a very good temper." Victor smiled and walked out of the ward.

Sophia was waiting for him at the door. She walked toward the elevator when she saw him walking out.

"Ms. White, do let me know if you’re not in a good mood. Don’t bottle up your emotions for too long or things can get nasty," Victor said.

Sophia was slightly absent-minded. "Thanks for your concern, Dr. Hemingway. I will make sure to pay more attention to it."

Seeing that she was not listening to what he was saying at all, Victor sighed and did not say anything else.

Ding!

The elevator door opened and there were already several people waiting inside, including several doctors and nurses. When they saw Victor, they greeted him with smiles and laughter.

Victor smiled and returned the greetings one by one, beckoning Sophia to go in first. He walked in after her and punched the button to close the door.

"Is this Dr. Hemingway's girlfriend?" someone asked. "She’s so beautiful!"

Before Victor could answer, another person teased. "Dr. Hemingway and his girlfriend are both so good-looking. Their children will look terrific. Should we set an arranged marriage for our kids when they grow up?"

Victor was worried that things would get too awkward for Sophia and quickly clarified. "If I have a beautiful girlfriend like Ms. White, my mother would be so happy that she might even wake up from her dreams smiling!"

Sophia smiled at them. "Hello, I am Dr. Hemingway’s patient."

It was only then did they realize that this was just a misunderstanding. Finding it quite a pity, one of them said, "Are you single, Ms. White? You guys look a lot like husband and wife when you stand together. Aren’t you going to consider dating each other?"

“You said that I look good with Ms. Florence just a few days ago, Ms. Yara. Now you’re changing again... Sigh, why do women change their minds so quickly?" Victor sighed. "Or is it because I’m too handsome, that’s why I look good with everyone?"

Ms. Yara smiled. "Of course it's because you are too handsome."

They joked around a bit more when the elevator arrived and they parted ways.

Sophia followed Victor and was about to get into his car when she bumped into Ms. Yara. Ms. Yara gave her an ambiguous smile before driving away.

"It seems like Ms. Yara has gotten the wrong idea. I will explain it to her when I see her." Victor had seen the ambiguous smile on Ms. Yara’s face as well.

Sophia hummed a response and climbed into the front passenger seat.

Victor was just about to rev up the engine when his phone started vibrating. Sophia glanced inadvertently and caught a glimpse of the letter “F’.

"How can I help you, Ms. Florence?" Victor had always taken his time in his speech and actions, giving others the impression of an unhurried man.

After getting on the phone, however, he started speaking much faster than usual. He sounded as though he was in a rush.

Upon hearing Ms. Florence’s name, Sophia recalled the beautiful female patient who looked soft and weak. If she remembered clearly, she was a dancer too.

Something was said on the other end of the call and Victor replied quickly, "I’m sorry, Ms. Florence. I am going to start an operation soon, so it won’t be a convenient time for me to go out for dinner!"

He hinted at Sophia with his eyes. "What did you just say, Leonardo?"

"..." “Why didn’t you just call me Leonardo DiCaprio...’ Sophia pursed her lips and cooperated with a flagging interest. "Dr. Lance wants you to go over immediately. The patient is dying!"

Victor gave her a thumbs up. "I'm really sorry Ms. Florence. This is really not the right time, goodbye!"

He finished his sentence in a hurry and hung up the call straight away.

Sophia looked at her right leg. If her leg was healed, could she be a dancer again just like Ms. Florence?

"Fasten your seat belt," Victor turned his head and said to Sophia.

Seeing that she was in a daze, he leaned over to fasten her seat belt for her. Then, he revved up the engine.

"Thank you," Sophia said.

While turning the steering wheel, Victor said, “I’m so good at acting. I think it’s a shame that I’m not in the entertainment industry!”

"It doesn't matter even if you don't have acting skills. You won't starve to death with this face of yours, Dr. Hemingway," Sophia said.

The dimples on Victor's cheeks deepened considerably. "Finally someone has said that my face can sustain me. Aunt Lucy calls me a narcissist every time I say this."

Chapter 181 They Were The Ones Who Had Pressed Her To The Wall "What about your mother?" Maybe it was his carefree and casual attitude like he was treating an old acquaintance that made Sophia's nerves relax tremendously.

Victor turned the steering wheel and merged into the traffic. "My family gave me away to Aunt Lucy. I just returned home a year ago. I’m not very close to my mother, so she doesn’t really joke around with me."

Sophia did not know that a back story like that existed. After pausing for a moment, she said, "I’m sorry."

"It's nothing. Aunt Lucy and her family treat me very well. I have never really lacked anything compared to my peers," Victor laughed and said.

Sophia pursed her lips and remained silent.

"Now that you know a secret of mine, Ms. White, can I exchange it for a secret of yours?" Victor asked.

The car stopped at a red light.

There were a lot of cars on the road in the evening rush hour, making the road as dense as ants moving house before a heavy storm. Everyone was irritable.

Sophia frowned without a word.

"It’s just a casual question. You don’t need to feel embarrassed, Ms. White." Victor glanced at her, then looked away.

The green light came on and the long line of cars started crawling.

"It's fair to exchange one secret for another." Sophia then asked, "What do you want to know, Dr. Hemingway?"
