Chapter 193

Yvette was stumped for words, whereas Mr. Harris looked exceedingly sullen. "Yvette, don’t speak without proof."

"What’s wrong? Do you feel uncomfortable because I was criticizing her daughter?" Yvette smiled lightly.

"Idiot!" Master Harris chastised. It was unclear who he was referring to. "You really think I don’t know anything about that car accident?"

"Sophia can't even handle something as simple as that and has Leah leading her around by the nose like that. Do you think she will be of any help to the Harris family if Charles married her? We should be thankful if Leah doesn’t end up plotting a scheme against them instead!"

"Leah may have a scheming mind, but her feelings for Charles are real. Her marrying into the Harris family will not only be beneficial for the cooperation between the two companies, but she will also be a tremendous help to Charles in his day to day affairs—so much more benefits compared to if Sophia was to marry into the Harris family!”

Yvette frowned almost imperceptibly and said no more.

Sensibly speaking, marrying Leah would be more beneficial to Charles' future development.

"You don’t have to worry too much about this. Who doesn’t have a crush or two at their young age?" Mr. Harris said, "I will make sure to persuade Charles when I see him. If he really likes Sophia, he can just take her as his lover."

Yvette’s expression turned terribly sullen when she heard what he said, though she chose to remain silent in the end.

"He's a young man in his twenties, so we can turn a blind eye to his muddle-headedness, but you as parents better not be like him and get muddleheaded yourselves!" Master Harris said pointedly, staring at Yvette.

Yvette tugged at her lips forcibly. There seemed to be something stuck in her throat as she could not utter a single word.

"Don't worry, Dad, I will watch Charles and make sure that he doesn’t do anything foolish," Mr. Harris said flatly.

Master Harris snorted, somewhat satisfied with the couple’s attitude.

Suddenly, there was a series of knocks on the door.

Mr. Harris went to open the door after obtaining Master Harris' consent. Charles was standing outside the door.

"Go out, you two." After saying that to Mr. Harris and Yvette, Master Harris turned to look at the old lady sitting on one side. "You too, Jacinda. I’d like to speak to Charles alone."

Mr. Harris and Yvette agreed without the slightest hesitation and left. The old lady followed behind them. When she walked past Charles, she seemed like she was trying to say something but eventually sighed without saying anything and went out and closed the door.

"Grandpa," Charles called out, standing in front of the hospital bed.

Master Harris snorted with a sullen look on his face. "Why are you keeping Sophia by your side? Are you trying to break your marriage contract with the Jones family?"

Charles lowered his head and remained silent.

Crash!

Master Harris grabbed the mug from the table next to him and hurled it straight at him. The mug struck the corner of his eye first before falling to the ground with a clang, smashing into pieces.

"Speak!" Master Harris roared, glaring at him.

The impact made the corner of Charles' eyes slightly red, but there were no changes in his countenance. "Many of my same-age cousins aren’t married yet. If you’re eager to form a marriage alliance with the Jones family, then you can always swap me for someone else, Grandpa. It doesn't have to be me."

"Is this how you should talk to your elders?" Master Harris asked, pointing at him.

Charles' Adam's apple rolled slightly. "I'm sorry."

"On your knees!" Master Harris climbed out of the hospital bed and stood in front of him. His imposing aura did not diminish even the slightest even when he was already in his old age.

Charles pursed his lips, bowed his head, and knelt on the ground.

"If Leah promises to marry either one of your cousin brothers, then something good like that wouldn’t even fall on your head!" Perhaps it was because his time was running out, Master Harris sounded blunter than ever.

Even if she agreed, he would certainly not agree! Leah was far superior compared to any of the Harris family’s grandchildren except for Charles. He was worried that she would control the entire Harris family if she married another grandson of his.

Charles dropped his eyes and remained silent.

"Leah’s no worse than Sophia in terms of her family background, looks, and wits, why do you refuse to marry her?" Master Harris screamed himself hoarse.

Charles answered mildly, "There are enough quarrels and schemes going on in the Harris family. I don’t want to spend the rest of my life with my other half scheming against each other. Besides, judging from the current capabilities of the Harris family, whether we form a marriage alliance with the Jones family or not doesn’t really matter."

"Nonsense! The Phillips, Jones, Whites, Lewis, and Cox are all big families. Did you see any of them audacious enough to say such egotistical words?" Master Harris yelled, "I thought you were a clever person, but in the end, you’re just nothing but a fool!"

Charles dropped his head and stared at the ground. He made no reply.

Master Harris fixed his gaze on him like a nail. "That’s all I have to say to you today. Get engaged to Leah within a month and I will not change my will. Other than receiving three percent shares, you will continue to be appointed as the president of Harris Corporation."

Master Harris paused for a moment, his face turned considerably livid. "If you refuse to get engaged to Leah, then you will not receive a single penny from me when I die. Don't even dream about assuming the position of Harris Corporation’s president either! Do you hear me?!"

"Mm." Charles pressed his lips firmly and said nothing more after humming his reply.

"I get upset every time I see you!" Master Harris waved his hand at him impatiently. "Give me an answer in a week. Get lost!"

Charles held the ground for support and stood up, then turned around and walked towards the door.

Bang—

As soon as he opened the door, many of them who were eavesdropping outside to the door leaned forward and bent over at his feet.

Charles glanced at them indifferently, then lifted his foot and stepped over them and out of the ward.

Many of them looked into the ward in apprehension and shut the door in a hurry for fear that it would upset Master Harris.

"Charles, why did Grandpa ask to meet you alone? Did he mention anything about his will?"

"Why were you in there for so long?"

"What did the old man tell you?"

Seeing that Charles had come out, the Harris family swarmed up to him in an instant and all of them started talking at once.

Chapter 192 Your Grandpa Has Stage Four Lung Cancer Charles glanced at them. No matter how noble, elegant, dignified, and generous these people usually portrayed themselves to be, at this very moment, they were just like everybody else. The will was all they cared about.

Sometimes, he had no idea whether his grandfather was the biggest winner or the most pitiful person.

"This wouldn’t have happened to me if we were talking about the will." Charles pointed to the corner of his eye that was now bleeding slightly.

After hearing what he said, they all said a few words of comfort half-heartedly, while some did not even bother and dispersed immediately.

Ted walked over and patted Charles on the shoulder. "Your grandfather’s illness must have made him hot-tempered. Don’t bother arguing with an old man like him."

"Thank you for your concern, Uncle Ted." Charles took his hand away and said flatly.

Ted laughed. "You are very welcome."

He then chatted with him for a while before saying, "As your uncle, Charles, I do feel pretty sorry as you have been the president for so long and have done so much for Harris Corporation. Our family, however, is the one that ended up taking most of the dividends instead."

"Don't be sorry, Uncle Ted." Charles said, "If you are really sorry, then you can give me some of your family's dividends. I will ask my assistant, Mr.

Jake Lewis to send you my bank account number soon."
