The smile on Ted's face froze. "Charles, thatâs not what I meant. I wasnât trying to give you any dividends, I was just..."
"I thought you wanted to give me some dividends as a reward, that's why you said that you were sorry. Looks like I got the wrong idea." Charles cut him off. "If you have no plans to give me any money, then donât say things like youâre sorry and whatnot. It can sound misleading to others."
Other Harris family members listened to their conversation and most of them looked on with disdain and contempt.
Tedâs family received the most benefits from the Harris family, but his family was also the stingiest.
He did not know how to handle big things and enjoyed sticking his nose into other peopleâs business; he was more careful and detailed than anyone when it came to minor calculations and would always think that he was suffering losses. It was more difficult to dig money out of them than to pull a hair from a tiger.
With so many eyes on him, Ted felt quite embarrassed as an elder. "I didnât say anything about not giving you any money either. Ask Mr. Jake to send me your bank account number and I will give you some dividends as a reward after that."
"How much money are you planning to give me as a reward, Uncle Ted?" Charles asked.
Tedâs expression changed unpredictably. Ultimately, he said, "One hundred thousand bucks."
Charles sneered; everyone else guffawed.
"Two hundred thousand then? Two hundred thousand is a lot. I donât have anymore if you go higher than that!" Tedâs heart was aching so much it felt as though someone had cut off a piece of his body.
Charles laughed. "I was only joking with you, Uncle Ted. How could I take any money from you?"
Upon hearing what he said, Ted said in a hurry, "Youâre the one who doesn't want it, donât start saying that I refuse to give to you!"
Those around them started scorning again. Even so, hidden under their scornful faces were intense jealousy and the unwillingness to keep quiet.
They had no idea what Master Harris saw in Tedâs cowardly demeanor that he was holding his entire family members in the palm of his hands like they were some kind of treasure!
"Um, Charles. Actually, I'm here to discuss something with you." Ted said, "Look, you did so much for the company as the president but did not get as much money from it. I feel quite...â
He now had psychological trauma with the word âsorryâ. He changed his words and said, âI feel quite bad.â
"Hmm?" Charles raised his eyebrows slightly.
Ted gulped and said, "Look, why donât you let your cousin brother be the president? With that, you don't have to spend so much effort managing the company but can still receive a lot of dividends every year."
"I have no say in this." Charles said, sounding like he was placed in a tight spot, "Why don't you talk to Grandpa, Uncle Ted?"
At the thought of the furious look on Master Harrisâ face every time he mentioned this to him, he said sheepishly, "I was just asking. If you have no say in this matter then letâs just forget about it."
He left in a hurry after saying that.
At this time, Madam Hemingway arrived with a group of subordinates. After exchanging pleasantries with everyone present on the scene, she said, "I am deeply sorry to hear that Master Harris is diagnosed with lung cancer. Our hospital has prepared several wards considering that you guys will be here to accompany him at night..."
Actually, only one or two escorts would suffice to accompany the patient. However, Master Harris had stage four lung cancer with not many days left to live, hence everybody hoped to leave a good impression in front of Master Harris in order to get a tad more inheritance.
Madam Hemingway was extremely meticulous in the way she handled things. In no time at all, she had arranged a place for everyone to stay.
"Which ward are you planning to take, Mr. Harris?" Madam Hemingway walked over and asked.
Charles replied mildly, "There are so many people keeping Grandpa company. He will be fine without me."
"I have a whole new level of respect for you, Mr. Harris.â Madam Hemingway laughed.
After exchanging greetings for a moment, Madam Hemingway finally left with her subordinates.
The corridor was finally empty.
Mr. Harris walked up to Charles, looked at the wound at the corner of his eye, and asked sternly, "Youâre still making your Grandpa angry even now?"
"Even now?" Charles curled his lips sarcastically. "The inheritance that Grandpa gives you still wonât increase even if I didnât make him angry."
Mr. Harris frowned. He asked with a rather sullen look on his face. "Your grandfather asked you about Sophia, right? Did you anger him because he wasnât happy with your answer?"
"If youâre so curious about the things that Grandpa and I were talking about, why donât you go and ask him yourself?" Charles said with a faint smile on his face.
"Your stubbornness wonât work on me." Mr. Harris said, "Think about it, if you upset your grandfather and he refuses to leave you with a single penny and take away your position as the president, how would you and Sophia survive?"
"Even if you are capable enough to work in other companies, do you think people like Sawyer and Justin will let you and Sophia have it easy after youâve offended them?â
"Quit dreaming! When the time comes, Leah alone will be enough of a pain in the neck for you, let alone Sawyer and Justin! Do you think you have the power to stop her from harming Sophia when you have nothing left?â
Justin Harris was Tedâs son. He was better than his timid father, just not as good as Charles.
Charlesâ fists tightened gradually, but his countenance remained the same. âYou donât have to worry about me."
"Iâve said what I needed to say. What you plan to do is up to you." Mr. Harris raised his hand to look at his watch and walked to the elevator door.
Charles pursed his lips, his spine was stiff. He knew very well that his father was speaking the truth.
He frowned and undid two buttons on his shirt. Even so, the stifling sensation in his chest did not diminish but intensified instead.
The wound at the corner of his eyes after getting hit by the mug felt slightly painful. There were times when he lost vision momentarily. He furrowed his brows harder. After having his eyes checked at the ophthalmology department and was assured that everything was fine, he returned to the company.
Bamboo Virtues Village.
Not long after Charles left, Zachary and Clara arrived.
Sophia was bored at first, but with Clara constantly twittering next to her, she was not as bored now. She would also play along and laugh whenever Clara made her jokes.
"Charles is worried that you will be bored alone so he asked me to bring Clara here to keep you company." Zachary pushed his gold-rimmed glasses upward.
Clara clicked her tongue and expressed her surprise. "I canât believe that Big Iceberg has such a considerate side to him too!"

ï¤Chapter 193 So Much More Benefits Compared To If Sophia Was To Marry Into The Harris Family After saying those words, she slapped her head hard and said with her huge and sparkling black eyes, "Ugh! Somethingâs not right. Since when did Big Iceberg start treating Sophia so well?"
Zachary waited for Sophia's answer with great interest.
"I wonât attend Master Lewis's wedding with you anymore." Sophia changed the subject abruptly. "I need to do something that day. You might be in danger if I go with you."
Clara forgot about the previous question immediately and asked instead, "What are you going to do?"
Sophia did not answer.
"Are you going to beat Tiffany up? Or are you going to cut off Master Lewisâ beard when heâs asleep?" Clara made a few wild guesses and blinked ambiguously in the end, asking in a low voice, "Sophia, are you going to peep on Master Lewis and Tiffany at night when they do that thing?"
Zacharyâs head started aching when he heard her last speculation.
