Chapter 238 of 493

Chapter 241

Justin straightened up his back and stood up. "You’re still so blunt when you have nothing left. I really admire you, Charles."

"You will admire me even more in the future," Charles said with a smile, "Sophia is pregnant and gets hungry easily. Mr. Dennis will be here, so I will accompany Sophia to have lunch first."

Justin clicked his tongue. "I hope you can still be like how you are right now after a period of time, Charles."

"I’m counting on that." Charles entered the restroom, grabbed Sophia's coat, and put it on her, then took her hand and walked out with her.

Justin sneered and sat down again, ordering the employees in the office, "Chop chop, everybody. Grandpa is in a hurry to get this done."

Sophia and Charles walked out of Harris Corporation together. A cool breeze blew and awakened her considerably. She swung his hand away and walked toward the car.

"You shouldn't have lied and said that you’re pregnant," Charles said suddenly, following behind her.

Sophia dropped her head and walked ahead without a word. A hint of irony emerged in her eyes.

Could she have escaped Sawyer if she had not lied? Hah, her sex tape would be circulating all over the place by now!

"I would have gotten there if you could just wait a while longer," Charles said, "If you lie about being pregnant, you’ll need to use many more lies to cover up this lie."

Sophia sneered ironically and stopped dead in her tracks before turning around to look at him. "Charles, I’m already grateful enough that you aren’t torturing me. But am I supposed to leave my life and future in the hands of a man who broke my leg?”

Silence.

The atmosphere between the two was unusually suffocating.

Charles clenched his fists firmly, the back of his hand filled with ferocious-looking blue veins. After a long time, he said, "Grandpa is not that easy to deceive. Using excuses like accidental miscarriage and whatnot certainly won’t work.

The irony on Sophia's face vanished. She dropped her eyes, her eyelashes trembling a few times. She made no reply.

... She had not thought of her next course of action.

"Mr. Harris?! Ms. White?!" At this moment, a short-haired woman standing not far away called out to them in an excited manner. Then, she rushed over in a haste.

Sophia turned to look at the woman, realizing that she had never met her before. Before she could ask her anything, a group of people started running toward them.

Seeing the various recording equipment and microphones in their hands as well as the cameras aimed at her and Charles, her face turned grim.

Nothing good ever happened when reporters were around.

Charles stood next to her with his usual countenance. There were no fluctuations in his expression when he saw the reporters. It was as if he had been expecting them a long time ago.

Sophia frowned. She turned around and tried to leave but could not move an inch as she was completely surrounded by the reporters.

"Ms. White, is it true that Ms. Jones has pressed charges on you for attempted murder?"

"You used to be best friends, right? Why did you hit Ms. Jones with your car? Were you jealous of her because she likes Mr. Harris too?"

"It’s rumored that the marriage contract between the Jones and Harris families has been canceled. Are you the other woman in this relationship?"

"Ms. Jones did not press charges against you two years ago, but now you’re stepping in and breaking her and Mr. Harris’ relationship. Can you comment a bit about your attitude of returning kindness with ingratitude?"

"Sophia, you are no longer a member of the Whites and have been working in Dream Club for a while now. Do you think the Harris family will agree to let Mr. Harris take your hand in marriage?”

The reporters looked at Sophia with eagerness in their eyes as they extended their microphones to her face, wishing so badly that they could stuff it in her mouth.

Sophia's pupils contracted when she listened to their overwhelming questions. Her heart began thumping rapidly.

Leah had pressed charges against her? If she could not prove her innocence, would she be sent to prison for attempted murder?

"You’re not answering our questions, Sophia. Does it mean that these claims are true? Two years ago, you tried to kill your best friend by hitting her with a car because you were jealous, right?" A reporter's microphone was pressed onto Sophia's face.

Before Sophia could answer, she asked again with a sharp voice, "Can you explain how you got the scar on your face? Is it because you’re dating Mr.

Jones on the side and got beaten up by his fiancée for seducing him... Aargh!"

Charles grabbed the female reporter’s microphone, tossed it out straight away, and said in a frosty voice, “Even if you’re a reporter, you still need to carefully assess the evidence before asking a question. Otherwise, I have the right to sue you for defamation.”

The female reporter met his bone-piercingly cold gaze and took a few steps back subconsciously. Blood had completely drained from her face.

The other reporters stepped back as well, but they did not retract their microphones as they awaited Sophia’s reply.

"You don’t have to answer if you don’t want to. You’re under no obligation to answer their questions," Charles said.

Sophia glanced at the reporters and said with a deadpan look on her face, "It looks like everybody received the news as soon as Leah pressed charges against me. Should I feel honored that an ordinary person like me is receiving all this attention from you?"

She then pushed aside the reporter who was standing at the frontmost part of the circle. "Please move aside, thank you."

The reporters had no plans to make way at first, but she was too strong. Hence, the reporters standing nearest to the front were all pushed aside straight away. Seeing that the reporters in front had stepped aside, the reporters at the back subconsciously stepped aside as well.

Sophia made a beeline for the Porsche, opened the door, and sat in the front passenger seat. Charles followed suit and went in.

"Aren’t you worried that by speaking so harshly to them, the reporters will make baseless claims in their reports?" Charles revved up the engine and asked nonchalantly.

Sophia sneered. "The questions they asked were all so biased. They also know the details of the incident so well. It’s obvious that Leah sent them.

They won’t write good things about me no matter what I say."

Charles hummed a reply and said no more.

The two drove to the nearest shopping mall. It was only half-past ten and not even lunchtime yet, so Charles suggested that they watch a movie.

Sophia did not refuse as she had something in her mind.

When they were lining up to buy tickets and some snacks, a group of people started pointing and talking about them behind their backs.

"It's her, she's Sophia!"

"She tried to kill her best friend by hitting her with a car just because she was jealous. How can a cruel person like that exist in this world?"

"Leah regarded her as her best friend, hence she didn't press charges against her and merely put her in prison for two years. Who would’ve thought that she would interfere with Leah’s relationship as soon as she was released from prison? She’s so shameless!"

"Leah must have one hell of a rotten luck to have a friend like that!"

Sophia turned her head and saw the look of disgust on the faces of several girls who appeared to be high school students.

When they saw her staring at them, the girls did not back away either. One of the girls even scolded her in front of her face. "How is she seducing anyone with that hideous-looking face? How shameless!"

"Are all homewreckers so unbridled now?" the girl standing next to her asked.

Sophia pursed her lips without saying anything and withdrew her gaze. The reporters must have published the news. There must be a lot of people cursing her. If she argued with each and every one of them, she would probably end up driving herself mad first.

Charles turned around, his gaze falling on the girls. He frowned imperceptibly.

The girls cowered under his gaze and looked away.

"Are you girls here to watch a movie?" Charles asked as he walked up to them.
