The ward door opened.
Master Harris was in his hospital gown as he walked out in an aggressive manner. âWhat nonsense is there for you to talk about outside here so late at night instead of going to sleep? If youâd spend your time on the company instead of on these pointless acts, you wouldnât end up this way!â
Oscar said helplessly, âIâm just giving some advice because Iâm concerned over Charles as an elder. Why has it become a pointless act when youâre describing it?â
âIf you were capable enough to advise him, do you think I would allow a junior like him to be the president? Get out of here and go home to rest. Just look at what time it is. Stop annoying me by moving about in front of me every day!â Master Harris finished his words impatiently and turned to go into his ward.
When he saw that Charles did not follow him, he turned back and roared, âWhy arenât you coming in! Whatâre you waiting for?â
âItâs getting late. Do have an early rest, Uncle Oscar,â Charles said to Oscar and got into the ward, closing the door behind him.
Oscar watched as the door shut in front of him. The smile vanished from his face as a dark look crossed his eyes. He sneered coldly and walked away from the door.
âHave you thought about it?â Master Harris sat on a chair in his ward, staring coldly at Charles who was standing at the door.
Charles walked forward a few steps. âMy answer remains unchanged.â
âYou scoundrel!â Master Harris slammed the table and stood up.
Charlesâ expression remained the same as he said, âGrandpa, itâs better for you if you control your temper. Your body canât take anymore torment.â
âAre you cursing me to die?â Master Harris clenched his teeth.
Charles replied, âIâm not. Iâm just suggesting you to take care of your health. Youâre overthinking it.â
Silence.
It felt like ice was forming in the air and time had stopped.
Master Harris stared darkly at Charles while Charles remained focused, as if not bothered by Master Harrisâ stare.
Master Harris roared, âLet me ask you again. Do you agree or not?! If you say no, Iâll do whatever I want when handling your matters!â
A slight chill appeared in Charles' eyes, but he stood his ground. âIâve never done any transfer of assets, and I have no idea why such huge transactions have appeared out of thin air in the accounts. Iâm absolutely fine with you handing me over to related departments. I believe they will be able to prove my innocence.â
Charles may be the president, but the position of chief finance officer, which had gone through three hires, were all his grandfatherâs men.
The accounts never had a problem, but the moment he resigned as president and conducted his handover, problems immediately surfaced in the accounts. It did not take much to guess who was behind this.
âDo you think I wonât dare to?â Master Harris questioned him with a lowered voice.
Charles replied, âItâs not that. I just felt a chill in my heart at the thought of you fiddling with the accounts to threaten me to stay and assist Justin.â
His grandfather had gotten him to resign as president but requested him to stay as assistant to the president. Charlesâ position may be the presidentâs assistant, but in fact, he would still be doing the job of a president. The only difference was that the public would recognize Justin as the president.
This way, the companyâs actual power would fall into Justinâs hands after his grandfather passed.
To illustrate things, Justin was just like a singer who lip-synced while the real person singing was Charles. All of the popularity and income gained would belong to Justin, while Charles would be nothing but a ghost singer not meant to be seen in public.
His grandfather had messed with the accounts in order to threaten him to agree to this.
Master Harris stared at him, looking extremely angry. It took a while for him to finally say angrily, âGood for you, youâve finally decided to turn your back on me after growing up. How dare you come at me this way!â
Charles shook his head. âIâve grown up, but Iâm not turning my back on anything. Iâm not the president, nor do I have any shares in Harris Corporation. I have nothing to my name. What right do I have to come at you?â
Master Harris raged on. âThen how do you explain the situation with Dennis and the rest? Hmm? They unanimously rejected Justin as the president and are requesting for you to return to the post. How do you explain that?â
Charles looked straight at Master Harris and said, âDuring my years of tenure as the president of Harris Corporation, the company suffered a loss only in my first year. For the remaining years, weâve had a profit growth of 18% every year. As shareholders, it makes sense for them to want a capable president.â
A profit of 18% every year might not seem much for small-medium enterprises, but for an international conglomerate, it was an astonishing amount.
This was because the development of huge corporations was considered mature, making it difficult for them to advance further.
According to its financial reports, Harris Corporation has been performing well. The companyâs shares had been rising continuously to 20%, a number that was constantly reported by local and international media.
Master Harris sneered as his face clouded.
Even though Justin may not perform as well as Charles after taking over Harris Corporation, it should not be a problem for him to maintain current developments. However, Master Harrisâ plans went haywire when those people suddenly did the unexpected during the board meeting!
Charles continued, âDennis and the others only have 15% shares in total. The remaining 85% of shares belong to the Harris family. As the main shareholder, you have absolute power over this. They wonât be able to hinder your plans, will they?â
âYour aunts and your Uncle Oscar are standing with Dennis and the others. They are requesting for you to return as president. Do you dare tell me to my face that this has nothing to do with you?â Master Harris asked coldly.
Ted and his family owned 25% of the shares. With Charlesâ shares that he snatched away, there was only 49% in total shares.
Master Harrisâ eldest daughter and the others, however, had 51% shares in total, which was more than what he had.
He should never have distributed the shares so early if he knew this would happen!
Charles laughed at his words. There was a subtle sarcastic look in his eyes. âGrandpa, youâre maligning me. I have no shares in my hands. Whatâs the point of being president?
âMy aunts and the rest want me to continue being president because I can help them earn a huge profit. This is human nature. I believe Grandpa is pretty familiar with it?â
The expression on Master Harrisâ face was stormy. It took him a while before saying, âTake up the position of assistant to president and I wonât go after you for touching the companyâs assets. Iâll even return the three percent shares to you! Are you satisfied now?!â
The last sentence was almost squeezed from his throat.
âGrandpa, you know better than I do if Iâve touched that money or not. Thereâs no need for you to bring that matter up. As for the three percent, I donât plan on wanting it. Itâs not worth it for me to give my entire life for such a small amount of money,â Charles replied.
The look on Master Harrisâ face turned from bad to worse.
Atrophy of Love: Mr. Harris, Stop Fooling Around!
ï¤Chapter 248 Itâs Nothing Major âMy mom was telling me about how my uncle is doing. My uncle said that he needs help and has asked me to go over to help him out. He told me that with my capabilities, I should be able to become at least a major general. Itâs much more respectable than being a businessman with a stench of money,â Charles added as he pretended not to notice Master Harrisâ expression.
Master Harrisâ face darkened. The storm was coming. âGood for you, isnât it? Youâre indeed a member of the Harris family!â
