Leah dropped her head with a bleak look on her face, not saying a word.
Madam Jones could not stand it anymore and started complaining. "Who knows what sort of spell Sophia has put on this child. At first, he broke off the marriage contract with the Sommer family for that vixen and even ran away from home!"
"Who knows what Sophia has said to him this time that he insisted on fighting Leah for the family property. He also said that he wonât recognize Leah as his sister anymore! Dad, say, do you think he will present the entire Jones Group as a gift for Sophia soon?"
Tiffany curled her lips at her words and said while stroking her belly, "William is nothing but a fool. Not only was he tricked by a cripple, but he was also bewitched by a little b*tch that he had lost all sense of direction. Just look at what kind of son you have raised!"
"Shut your mouth. Was I even asking you?!" No matter how displeased Madam Jones was with her son, she would never allow anyone to badmouth him, especially a prostitute like her whom she despised the most!
Tiffanyâs expression turned grim from getting yelled at. She wrapped her arms around Master Lewis' neck and said coquettishly, "Honey, look at her, sheâs bullying me right under your nose!"
This scene had played out in front of Lewis and Leahâs families once too many times. Despite that, they still found it difficult to accept it every time they saw it happened.
They were a family of scholars, but now their reputation was ruined by a shrew prostitute. Everybody would point fingers at them no matter wherever they went!
After coaxing Tiffany softly, Master Lewis chided them. "Is that how you should talk to someone? Sheâs your mother! Apologies!"
Madam Jones used to be the most favored one at home. She had also never suffered any grievances after marrying into the Jones family until now.
At this point, she was so infuriated that even her tears started flowing out.
"Grandpa, Ms. Lawrence is the same age as me. She can even qualify as my momâs daughter. By asking my mom to call her Mom, youâre simply...
forcing her to do something against her will.â
"Besides, my mom is just randomly grumbling about William but Ms. Lawrence started criticizing him instead. Thatâs a bit too much, donât you think?"
Leah knew that she was not supposed to be speaking out of turn, but she had suffered consecutive setbacks at Master Harris and Sophiaâs, hence she found it difficult to endure her grievances any longer.
Tiffany sprung up from her seat, pointed at her, and started cursing. "Why do you care how old I am? I married your grandfather, so Iâm your grandmother when it comes to my position in the family hierarchy. You will also have to call my son Uncle once I give birth to him! Youâre not pleased with it? Then f*cking hold it in!"
The Lewis family would normally pay the most attention to etiquette and language, hence everyoneâs expressions turned sullen after hearing her using such an obscene word.
"Why bother getting mad at the juniors?" Master Lewis grabbed her hand and pulled her down to sit on his lap. He then coaxed her with honeyed words for a while before saying, "Leah, your grandmother is pregnant. Pregnant women are more sensitive. You should be more considerate. I remember that youâre usually the most sensible."
Leahâs anger was stuck in her throat. She could not cough it out nor swallow it down. It was worse than having a fishbone stuck in her throat. She took a deep breath, stifled the rage in her heart, and said okay.
"Your grandparents are the one who summoned you here today." Master Lewis stroked Tiffany's long hair over and over again.
Leah's countenance changed slightly. She could almost guess what this was about but did not say a word.
"You are Jones Groupâs chief financial director, so you should be very clear about the recent circumstances." Master Lewis said, "As you set Sophia up, Jones Groupâs stock price has hit a limit down multiple times, our market value has shrunk by eighteen percent. Iâm sure you know how devastating that amount is, right?"
Leah was extremely displeased for getting blamed by an amateur, but she still tried her very best to lift the corners of her mouth. "I am working in an enterprise and know this better than you, Grandpa. Major corporations like us should be looking at long-term development, instead of the setback that we have suffered momentarily."
In other words, Master Lewis was too short-sighted.
"Your grandparents thought so too, thatâs why they didn't blame you after the incident and comforted you instead," Master Lewis said.
Leah said sincerely, âFor this reason, I am very grateful to my grandparents. They are both really good elders."
"But look what you did afterward?" Master Lewis raised his voice abruptly. "You went and set Master Harris up and infuriated him, landing Jones Group in even more trouble!"
"Your grandfather was planning to take a good project initially so that things would not look so negative for Jones Group. You, however, have transferred the funds to White Industries straight away, causing White Industries to snatch that project away!"
Leahâs eyes blinked several times rapidly as she attempted to lift up the corners of her mouth to no avail. "So... what are you trying to tell me?"
"Your mobility is restricted because of your leg and you arenât young anymore. We think that you should step down from your position as chief financial director and focus on rehabilitation. Once your leg has healed, we would like for you to meet several men that weâve picked out for you. This is what a woman should do," Master Lewis said.
Leah clutched the wheelchair armrest firmly. Almost failing to conceal her anger and disappointment. There was also a deep sense of incredulity on her face.
Master Lewis said, "You still have an afternoonâs time. Thatâs more than enough for you to complete the handover process. Go ahead and do the necessary preparations."
Having said that, he stood up.
Leah got up from the wheelchair and walked towards him under everybodyâs astonished gazes. "Please wait up, Grandpa. My legs are almost healed.
I didnât tell anyone yet because I wanted to give everybody a surprise."
"Scheming b*tch!" Tiffany spoke very loudly, rolling her eyes.
Leah simply acted as though she did not hear what she said. She said solemnly, "Grandpa, I will go to the matchmaking appointments that you and my grandparents have arranged for me, but I don't want to be a housewife. I remember you told me before that women must be independent, no?"
"Independence is a form of personality. It doesn't have to be expressed in the form of the amount of money you make. You are too competent at work and have crushed the majority of men out there. This will cause many men to feel psychologically imbalanced, thus it wonât be helpful for your marriage in the future."
Leah was stunned for a very long time, then laughed all of a sudden. Her laughter was both miserable and sardonic. "Can I ask why my grandparents have asked you to convey this message to me?"
"The things you did lately have disappointed them tremendously. They didnât know how to face you, hence they came to me because I am an elder who is closer to you,â Master Lewis said.
Leah dropped her head and fixed the cuff of her sleeve, saying bitterly, "It must be hard for you to come up with so many excuses, Grandpa. The only reason why all of you are doing this is because I offended Grandpa Harris, so you are afraid that the Jones and Harris families will be affected because of it, right?"
Master Lewis stared straight into her eyes without saying anything.

ï¤Chapter 325 I Will Give You My Cheek If You Want To Hit Me "Why did you gather everyone here then, Grandpa?" Leah could already guess the answer to this question, but she refused to give in and still wanted to ask the question.
Master Lewisâ gaze swept across everybody in the room and ultimately fell on her. "I summoned everybody here just to show them the many foolish things youâve done for a man so they can learn a lesson from it!"
