Sophia glanced at Charles who was standing beside her. âThere has been too much negative press on White family recently so I donât dare to even go out. Iâm at home now and Charles is at work.â
âOkay,â Nicole said, âCome over then, I have something to tell you.â
Sophiaâs grip around her phone tightened. âWhy canât you just tell me over the phone?â
âI donât think itâs something to talk about over the phone, just come over and weâll talk,â Nicole replied.
Worried that she would arouse Nicoleâs suspicions, Sophia simply said she would go over and ended the call.
âI still donât know what Nicole is up to.â With both hands on her shoulders, Charles turned her to face him. âI donât think you should be alone with her.â
Sophia understood his worries as well. âI need to find out what Nicole is trying to do so I have to go.â
âIâll have someone look into this matter, itâs too risky for you,â Charles said.
He had always been confident and certain in the things he did but ever since he fell in love with Sophia, things had changed.
Seeing that they were still unaware of the full picture, he was not going to let Sophia take the risk and put herself in a dangerous situation.
Sophia shrugged his hands off and said in a stern voice, âCharles, I donât need you to protect me all the time.â
Her eyes were determined and Charles knew that she had no intention of changing her mind. He took a step backward. âText me every fifteen minutes. If I donât get a text on time, Iâm going over right away.â
Sophia wanted to argue but before she could speak, Charles continued, âThatâs my only request.â

Charles drove Sophia to the White familyâs manor. Worried that Nicole would catch sight of Charlesâs car, she had him drop her off about two kilometers away from the manor.
âNicole wouldnât do anything to me in the house, Charles, you donât have to come with me,â Sophia told Charles repeatedly before finally getting out of the car. With a heavy heart, she set off toward the White family manor.
When she got to the manor, Nicole was already waiting by the door.
âDid you walk here? Arenât you cold?â Nicole looked around behind her and asked casually.
Sophia returned a smile. âI took a taxi here. I suddenly realized that I havenât been around here much ever since I was in prison for two years so I got off earlier to walk around.â
Perhaps it was because she felt overly conscious now, she thought that her sister-in-lawâs question was not as genuine and simple as it was supposed to be.
Nicole nodded and pulled her hand as she brought her into the house. âYour brother told me once that you hate the cold. You must be frozen after the long walk, come on it and Iâll get you a cup of hot tea.â
Sophia lowered her head and walked beside her quietly, a thousand thoughts rushing through her head.
No matter how well her brother treated her, he was nowhere as thoughtful as Nicole. She had long considered Nicole as a blood relative but at the moment, evidence was pointing toward Nicole for plotting against her!
âSoph, why do you look so pale? Is something wrong?â Nicole suddenly asked once they got to the living room.
Sophia froze for a second. She handed her coat to the maid as she said slowly, âI was just thinking about Charles. I have been thinking about this a lot recently but I still canât think of any reason he would want Mom dead. Nicole, do you think thereâs a misunderstanding somewhere?â
She looked at Nicole when she spoke, carefully observing Nicoleâs facial expression.
Nicoleâs eyes flashed briefly and she quickly averted her eyes.
Sophiaâs heart immediately sank. Nicole definitely had something to hide!
âI donât think so,â Nicole answered with a gentle sigh. âThatâs why I asked you here today, we need to talk about this.â
Sophia sat down on the sofa with her hands around the mug as she tried to suppress the anger she felt from Nicoleâs betrayal that surged through her heart.
âAll the chat records have been deleted on Momâs phone, I think the hacker is doing it remotely. I spent a lot of money on hiring a private investigator to find out who this hacker is. Do you know who it is?â Nicole asked.
Sophia frowned and played along. âWho?â
âHeâs a senior programmer in Harris Corporation and he told me that it was Mr. Harrisâs orders.â Nicole looked at her with an anxious and troubled look. âSophia, even if you still refuse to accept this, you canât deny anymore that Mr. Harris is the culprit here.â
Clank!
The mug in Sophiaâs hands fell to the ground and broke into several pieces.
The truth was finally out.
She was trying to frame Charles!
Sophia twisted the corner of her sleeves tightly. She felt as if she had suddenly slipped into quicksand and she could not breathe from all the tiny sand granules that filled up her airway.
If she had not talked to Nicole, she could at least still convince herself that her sister-in-law was being deceived by someone else.
However, on one hand, Nicole was telling Charles that she believed him, and on the other, Charles had a hand in Momâs death... She could no longer fool herself into believing that Nicole was innocent!
âSoph, how are you feeling?â Nicole went to her side and wrapped an arm around her shoulder warily. âYouâre pregnant now, you shouldnât get too emotional.â
Sophia shoved her arm away as her throat tightened. âIâm fine.â
She refused to believe the facts! Just as before with Charles, she held a last glimmer of hope as she asked, âNicole, do you think there might be a misunderstanding?â
âI wish there was too but with the facts in front of us now, we canât just look away! Soph, we have already confirmed that this is Mr. Harrisâs doing, you should stop holding on to your unrealistic fantasies now,â Nicole said earnestly.
That was right! Since she had now confirmed that her sister-in-law was lying, she should stop holding out hope!
Memories of Nicoleâs kind moments flashed through her mind and she felt a tinge on her nose. She could no longer hold back the tears.
âJust cry and let it all out, youâll feel much better then.â Nicole handed Sophia a few pieces of tissue paper. âAlthough we still donât know why Mr.
Harris did this, at least weâre able to confirm that heâs the one behind this. What are you planning to do now? Do you still want to stay with him?â
Sophia accepted the tissue paper and wiped the tears on her face. âIâm pregnant with his child though, and knowing how overbearing he is, itâs practically impossible for me to leave.â
Upon hearing this, Nicole quickly said, âItâs alright, donât worry about that! As long as you want to leave, Iâll figure out a way for you to leave him!â

âNicole, you seem very excited at the sound of me leaving him.â Sophiaâs throat was as dry as a dessert. She wanted to drink something but her hands were trembling so hard she could not even hold the teapot.
Nicoleâs expression froze for a moment before she lowered her head. She proceeded to pour Sophia a glass of water.
âYouâre not wrong. If you insist on staying with him even after knowing that heâs related to Momâs death, your dad and your brother would surely kick you out of the family. Iâm the last person who would want to see that happen.â
Sophia kept her head low. After a long pause, she said in a hoarse voice, âIâll think about it.â
She had never expected her sister-in-law, of all people, to plot against her. Her mind was a mess and she did not know what to do next!
A frantic look flashed across Nicoleâs eyes but she did not push the subject. âAlright, just think about it. Keep in mind though, you donât have much time. I can only keep this for another week or so before I have to tell Father and Ster.â
Sophia mumbled a vague reply and reached out for the teapot. However, she accidentally touched the pot and scalded her hand.
âHow can you be so careless?â Nicole frowned as she ran upstairs to get a soothing ointment and helped Sophia apply it to the burn on her hand.
