Marie composed herself and stopped smiling. However, there was still joy in her eyes.
âGet new hostess uniforms.â Charles lifted the cup and put it next to his lips. Under Marieâs watchful eyes, he placed it down again. âWe donât do fan service in the club.â
âMr. Harris, youâre falsely accusing me!â Marie was disappointed when he did not burn himself with the tea this time. âA cheongsam works best to accentuate a womanâs inner beauty. How has it become a fan service? Look at the other clubs! Which clubâs uniforms do not show the womenâs breasts and thighs?â
âI never went to other clubs before, so I donât know.â Charles grabbed the necklace and looked at the pendant under the light.
â...â Marie lifted her eyebrows, and her gaze suddenly turned flirty. âCheongsams are still fine, I just donât think itâs suitable for Sophia. It exposes her scar, and itâs so ugly. Iâm afraid itâll scare people away. Why donât I ask someone to make a custom uniform for her? What do you think?â
Charles put away the pendant and made a sound of approval. He agreed to this.
Marie smacked her lips and said tauntingly, âIf people donât know, theyâll think youâre jealous of Sophia being a hostess.â
âFire the person in charge.â Charles ignored her and lifted the teacup to take a sip.
âHe has worked here for ten years. Even if he has never accomplished anything, he works hard. We canât just fire him. Itâll be such a shame.â Marie blinked, and her every move was sultry. âWhy donât you give me a crime to pin on him?â
âStealing the precious property of the club. Changing the accounts of the club.â Charles leaned back against the chair. There was a layer of ice in his eyes.
âThis crime is too serious. Iâm afraid no one will want to hire him anymore if word gets out.â Marie looked at that precious pendant. She knew everything, but she still asked while smiling, âWhat did he do?â
Charles placed his hands on his knees and looked at her. His eyes were icy.
âPretend I never asked.â Marie leaned down and supported her chin with her right elbow. Her cleavage was faintly discernible. âMr. Harris, I discovered something interesting recently.â
She stopped talking to wait for him to ask her.
Even with the glorious view in front of him, he was acting like he did not see it. He only peered at her for a short while before walking away.
Marie watched as he disappeared through the door. She sighed in regret. âI shouldnât have waited for him to ask me. I should have just told him. I miscalculated...â
...
The next day, 8:30 am.
Sophia got a notice about some setbacks with her uniform, so she had to return the cheongsam. She was given a rest day before the new uniform got here.
âThe bosses finally came to their senses and gave you a day off!â Megan exclaimed.
âF*ck all of your ancestors!â Tiffany kicked the foot of the bed, and it made a loud sound. âItâs still early. Are you gonna let me f*cking sleep or not?
F*ck all of...â
âKeep screaming,â Sophia walked to Tiffanyâs bed and said flatly.
Tiffanyâs face went red. The words she had wanted to say were stuck in her throat. However, when she looked at Sophiaâs eyes, she could not say anything. She scoffed loudly and covered her head with her blanket. She purposely made a loud sound.
âSheâs crazy.â Megan scoffed and ignored Tiffany who was still kicking around in the bed. She said to Sophia, âYou hardly have a day off. Letâs go shopping.â
Sophia looked at the clothes she was wearing that were meant for summer and did not say anything.
Back then, she could still wear her clean uniforms. Now that she had returned her uniform and cheongsam to the office, she was only left with this outfit. It was the same outfit she wore when she got incarcerated.
âIâve gained weight recently, so there are some clothes that donât fit me anymore. Iâll give them to you.â Megan got out of bed in only her underwear and took out a khaki-colored coat and a pair of pants.
She looked at Sophiaâs shoes and took out a shoebox from under the bed. Then, she took out a pair of black velvet high heels and gave everything to Sophia.
After the two of them changed their clothes and put on some light makeup, they went out the door.
After they closed the door, Tiffany kicked away her blanket. She yelled at the door with her facial features contorted, âYou shameless b*tch! You murderer! Youâll f*cking regret this!â
After she yelled at the door, she still did not feel relieved. She got out of bed and took Sophiaâs cup. She removed the toothbrush inside and put in inside the toilet. After a while, she took it out and put it back into her cup.
Sophia and Megan went to the nearest mall and got some clothes as well as shoes. When they were done, it was almost noon.
The two of them were hungry, so they chose a Japanese restaurant with good ratings.
âCan we go to another restaurant?â When Sophia went inside the shop, she saw Charles and Leah sitting inside the shop.
Charles had his back toward her, so she could not see his expression. She could only see Leah covering her mouth with her hand. Her eyes turned into two crescent moons, face seemingly filled with joy.
âWhatâs wrong?â Megan was searching for an unoccupied table for them to sit at. âIâve been here many times. The food here is fresh and not too expensive. Donât mind the crowd. After you eat, youâll think that itâs worth it.â
Sophia did not want to disappoint her since it seemed like Megan wanted to eat here so badly. She made a sound of reply and went to wait for a table by the door with Megan.
Since there were so many people here, Charles and Leah might not see her. When she walked in with Megan, they were almost done, so maybe they would not run into each other.
However, everything was not as it seemed.
âWe still have seats at our table. Come with me.â William walked in front of Sophia and looked at her. He looked like he was in a trance.
When she put on normal clothes after taking off her uniform, she looked like the same Miss White from two years ago. It was as if everything was just a dream.
Megan was shocked. She knew this man. He was the young master of Jones Group. Did he know Sophia?
William was here as well? Sophia frowned. âNo need. People like me canât eat at the same table as you.â
âDo you think Iâll invite you if Leah hadnât asked me to?â William looked indifferent. âOtherwise, youâll have to wait at least an hour for another table.
Come on.â
Sophia furrowed her brows. Before she could reject, Megan said with a smile, âThank you, Mr. Jones.â
She stood up and pulled Sophiaâs hand. âLetâs go.â
Atrophy of Love: Mr. Harris, Stop Fooling Around!
ï¤Chapter 39 No Rush, Answer Me Only When You're Ready When she saw Sophia not moving, she said, âYou rarely have an off day. You canât be wasting an hour just to wait for a seat, right?â
Sophia pressed her lips together. The sun shone on her fringe and cast a shadow on the bridge of her nose.
She stood up with a grunt.
âI had the honor of meeting you before, Mr. Jones. Iâm so honored to be able to eat with you today.â Megan let go of Sophiaâs hand and walked over to William. She started talking carefully.
William grunted his reply perfunctorily and walked into the shop. After a few steps, he stopped to make sure Sophia was still following them. When he saw that she was, he continued walking.
They walked into the shop.
Charles looked at Sophia who was standing behind William. Then, he averted his eyes. He picked up the chopsticks and took some food for Leah.
During the two years in prison, Sophia had told herself multiple times not to think about Charles when she got out.
However, when she saw him being so caring with Leah, she felt that it was suffocating.
