It was Yvette calling.
âSoph, Charles is in deep trouble this time. Whoever reported the Harris Corporation to be involved in human experiments is a political rival of the Cox family, thereâs nothing the Cox family can do. The Harris family already tried everything possible but itâs no use.â
Unlike the previous call, Yvetteâs tone this time was much more solemn.
Sophia was completely leaning against the wall to support her body, her hands and feet ice-cold. â... Thereâs nothing the Cox and Harris family can do?â
How did the matter become so serious all of a sudden?
âYeah. Aside from that, the Jones family is pestering the Harris family to help them. Otherwise, they would expose your Uncle Harrisâ affair with that Lewis woman, as well as the news of Charles being arrested. Theyâre basically threatening the Harris family with dragging them into the mud as well.â
Yvetteâs voice was interlaced with disgust.
Sophia pursed her lips. The Jones familyâs current situation was not optimistic, hence there was a high possibility of them doing something reckless.
After all, why not smash the pot when it was already cracked?
The Harris family was in a tight spot as well. They were stuck in a corner with no means to advance nor retreat so they were forced to make a decision!
âYouâre worrying too much, you should take good care of yourself and your baby.â
âI called you just to give you a heads up that the media and police might be looking for you. Answer any questions they ask and if you donât know anything, just be honest and tell them, Iâm sure they wonât trouble you too much.â
Yvette still had other things to attend to, so she quickly ended the call after giving Sophia advice and instructions.
Sophia stared at her phone screen that went dark, and she suddenly felt that everything before her seemed dark and everything looked fuzzy.
She kept trying to summon the fighting spirit Charles had just so she could fight alongside him in this battle, but the truth was that now that he was suddenly taken away, she had no idea what to do!
âWhat are you doing here standing outside? Arenât you cold?â Sterling came out of the room with a seemingly crumpled cigarette.
He had never smoked before this, so after taking one puff on the lit cigarette, his eyes went red as he choked. Still, he did not put it down.
Not accustomed to the smell of the smoke, Sophia frowned and fanned the air. âNothing, Iâm just standing here for a bit, Iâm not cold.â
Seeing her reaction, Sterling took another puff of the cigarette before putting it out as he coughed.
The brother and sister stared at each other quietly with thoughts running through their mind.
After a long moment, Sterling asked with an odd look in his eyes, âYour sister-in-law... I missed a call from Nicole just now but nobody picked up when I called back.â
âShe... Did she... Itâs not that I want to reconcile with her. After all the things she did, I donât think thereâs any way I can ever forgive her. I just wanted to ask if she called you?â
Sophia shook her head.
She was quite hesitant whether to tell her brother that there was a mild possibility that Nicole was being threatened to do these things.
However, if Sylvia and Nicole turned out to be working together instead of what she assumed, it would just be another devastating blow to her brother.
Sterlingâs eyes dimmed as his expression returned to the same dull look as before. âEveryone always called me useless and stupid because I donât know anything, but your sister-in-law had always praised me and motivated me.â
He gave a bitter laugh before continuing, âI canât believe I trusted everything she said! What happened in the end? She threw me aside just like everyone else, and the one she truly likes is Charles...â
âSter!â Sophia quickly interrupted him. âDonât jump to conclusions about Nicole yet! Just give me... Give me three days and Iâll try to explain to you whatâs going on with Nicole.â
Sterlingâs eyes widened in shock. âWhat do you mean? Havenât we already gotten a good judge of who she is?â
Sophia averted his gaze and frowned. âSter, donât ask me any more questions. Please just give me three days and I promise to tell you everything. I still have something to do, I think Iâll leave now. Take good care of Dad, and if you decide to go back to work, please get him a caretaker.â
Not giving him a chance to ask anything else, Sophia scurried out of the room and got on the elevator with her bodyguards trailing behind her.
It was quite chilly outside, and so Sophia pulled her coat tighter as she got into the car.
The bodyguards followed suit, and the one sitting in the driverâs seat asked, âWhere to, Ms. White?â
Where was she supposed to go now?
She had no idea either.
She had no clue how this entire incident would pan out and she was hesitating whether to go to see Sylvia.
Sylvia was no kind soul so she really did not know what to expect when meeting her. It would be great if she was able to help Charles, but what if she ended up being used by Sylvia as a tool and worsened Charlesâ situation? She would be better off not going then.
âMs. White?â The bodyguard thought she had not heard him, and so repeated his question.
Sophia rubbed her sore temples and said tiredly, âLetâs... just go back to Bamboo Virtues Village.â
She did not know what to do anymore.
If she could not figure out a plan soon, she had no other choice but to ask Sylvia to meet.
The bodyguard grunted and started the car.
Sophia stared out the window blankly. Her mind seemed to be filled with wary thoughts for one second and empty the other. Halfway through the car ride, she took her phone out and gave Nicole a call.
Whether Nicole was being threatened or working alongside Sylvia, one thing for sure was that Nicole knew much more about the entire situation than her.
However, just as before, nobody answered the phone.
Sophia hesitated slightly before sending her a text.
[I know about your deal with Sylvia.]
Perhaps this might trick Nicole into talking.
The instant the tick indicating that the text message was successfully sent out, Nicole came calling.
However, Sophia did not pick up right away, afraid it might make her seem desperate. At the third ring, she finally answered the phone.
Worried that Nicole might be suspicious, she carefully considered her words. âNic...â
âWhere are you now? Have you met her yet? What did she ask her to do? Donât make any deals with her! If youâre still with her, try to come up with an excuse to get away!â Nicole spoke quickly and her tone was clearly aggravated.
Atrophy of Love: Mr. Harris, Stop Fooling Around!
ï¤Chapter 386 Even Talking About It Seems Taboo Not wanting to give herself away, Sophia kept quiet. After all, she still had no idea what happened between the two of them and she did not want to say anything wrong.
âDidnât you ask me what happened to my arm? Sylvia threatened to harm Jenna and Lennie if I didn't frame Mr. Harris for the chat records and split the two of you apart.â
âI didnât succeed... and so she had someone kidnap Jenna! Then, she said I would need to exchange one arm for Jennaâs life.â
âMr. Harris hired you a few bodyguards, right? Donât let them leave your side for a second! Then, Sylvia wonât be able to do anything to you!â
Sure enough, she had been threatened!
Sophiaâs face instantly paled and she began trembling all over.
Her sister-in-law losing an arm and her father in a coma... Did all this happen because of her?
âThere are so many people at home, how did she even get her hands on Jenna?â Even Sophiaâs voice was quivering.
Nicole laughed wryly. âItâs all my fault, I wasnât cautious enough when I was recruiting the help. The nannies taking care of Jenna and Lennie are people sent over by Sylvia, and she warned me not to try replacing the two of them. Otherwise, I would never see my two children ever again.â
âI tried getting my children back from them but the two of them would take turns guarding the children. Even when they sleep at night, they would take shifts where one slept while one guarded the twins. Theyâre too vigilant and cautious.â
âI tried so many times but I failed every time. Sylvia asked me to stop trying or I would have to face the consequences myself, and... you know the rest.â
