William stared at her intently. He seemed to have something else to say but she did not give him any more chances to speak again as she left straight away.
He watched her figure as she walked away. He wanted to go after her but after taking a few steps, he stopped in his tracks and let out a heavy sigh.
What could he say to her? He would only aggravate her!
âWilliam, what were you doing with that vixen?â Madam Jones came over with a frown. âAudreyâs watching there, donât you at least know how to avert suspicion? What if she misunderstands and breaks up with you? Who would help our family then?â
âEven if she doesnât, the Sommer family wouldnât possibly take out such a huge sum of money to help us. Now that Jones Group has fallen to this stage, you can all blame yourselves for it!â
With that, William turned on his heel and left.
Everyone in this family disgusted him, especially his mother. She was nearly fifty years old, yet she was still entangled in a love affair with Uncle Harris. Worst of all, she was pregnant with his child too!
Wherever he went, there were always people whispering about his mother and sister. He felt so miserable that he could not even lift his head up...
âWilliam? William, Iâm talking to you! Where are you going?â Madam Jones called out to him several times from behind but he merely ignored her.
She stomped her foot angrily. Right then, she saw Mr. Jones walking toward her and she rushed over. âHoney, youâre here just in time. Go talk to your son and tell him to stay away from that vixen. Audrey is standing right there, what if...â
âI need to see a few people, you can go talk to William yourself.â Although Mr. Jonesâ expression remained neutral, there was a hint of disgust and exhaustion in his eyes.
Then, he turned around without even giving her another glance as he walked toward B City Construction Bankâs manager with a wide grin plastered on his face.
First, her always-sensible son disobeyed her, and then, her usually obedient husband interrupted her mid-sentence. Madam Jones stomped her feet furiously and her eyes turned red and swollen.
She put in her heart and soul in this family, yet none of them cared about her!
If only she had married Alan Harris back then, at least he would always put her first no matter what.

Right after Sophia left William, Audrey came over to her and immediately cut to the chase. âJones Group is facing some issues with capital chain, did you agree to help William?â
âNo.â With that, Sophia wanted to walk away but Audrey stopped her.
âWilliam has liked you for so many years. Even when he believed Leahâs bullsh*t lies, he never gave up on you. Yet, you wonât even help him with such a small issue. Youâre truly cruel!â
Sophia swatted Audreyâs arm away and said coldly, âIf itâs just a small issue, why donât the Sommer family lend a hand then? Why do you have to come to me for help?â
She never liked these events because she thought they were meaningless and boring.
Now, however, she genuinely loathed these occasions because she did not want to be pestered by people whom she disliked, like William and Audrey.
Audreyâs face stiffened as she gritted her teeth. âJones Groupâs capital chain is missing a large sum of money, how can the Sommer family help with that?â
âHave you forgotten that Iâm a victim that the Jones family had persecuted multiple times? Youâre the Jones familyâs in-laws and you donât even want to help them, so why should I help my very own enemies?â Sophia snorted.
Was she really that much of an idiot in Audreyâs eyes?
Audrey furrowed her brows. âThe Jones family is indeed indebted to you in many aspects, but the people who had done you wrong were Madam Jones and Leah. What does it have to do with William? Like you, heâs just a victim of his sisterâs lies!â
âThatâs right. Heâs also a victim who had drenched me in alcohol, forced me to kneel at the entrance of a club, and verbally abused me on multiple occasions,â Sophia said sarcastically.
When William believed that she had deliberately harmed Leah, he had humiliated her relentlessly to avenge his sister!
Audrey froze slightly as her expression darkened. âHe just said a few words, itâs not like he physically hurt you. As for forcing you to kneel in front of a club, he did the same too and made headlines in the news. He embarrassed himself thoroughly just to make it up for you, is that not enough?â
âThere must have been a lot of money involved this time when the White family joined forces with Mr. Harris to set up this trap for the Jones family, right? Just take out the money, Iâm sure itâll be enough for Jones Group!â
William regarded Sophia as his lifeline and was even willing to turn against his family just for her! Why did she only remember the bad things he had done? How could she just forget all the things he had done for her and how good he was to her?
What a heartless b*tch!
âIf the Jones family had not tried to scheme against White Industries, they would not have gotten themselves in this position in the first place. They did this to themselves and thereâs no way Iâll help them.â Sophia finally realized that talking to these people was truly a waste of time and energy.
Not wanting to go on with Audrey anymore, she nodded her head to the woman and set off in search of a corner where she could sit down and rest for a bit.
However, Audrey grabbed her arm and stopped her once again as she tried to walk away.
âI will not help the Jones family, and nothing you say will change that. Ms. Sommer, please let go of me.â There were quite a lot of people present at the funeral and Sophia really did not want to cause a scene with Audrey in front of everyone.
Anger was written all over Audreyâs face, but she still restrained herself. âJust think, think of it as me begging you! For Williamâs sake that he loved you for so many years, please, I beg you to help him!â
Sophia frowned deeply, and just as she was about to reply, Victor came over.
âMs. Sommer, I think your request is a bit too much. Ms. Jones falsely accused Ms. White of a crime she didnât commit and Mr. Jones behaved rudely toward Ms. White because of a misunderstanding, and all these acts affected Ms. White so badly that she even considered committing suicide multiples times throughout the period. Yet, youâre asking her to help the Jones family now. Donât you think itâs a bit too much to ask for, Ms. Sommer?â
Audrey glared at Victor. âWhat does this have to do with you?â
She hated nosy people like him who simply barked at people like a mad dog!
âNothing much, but I just canât tolerate people who have skin as thick as walls.â Victor stopped beside Sophia as a small smile tugged on his lips.
Was he calling her shameless?
Audreyâs turned red in the face. âI suggest you mind your own business!â
âWhat if I just want to interfere?â Victor was never one to poke his nose into someone elseâs affairs because it was quite a troubling thing, but he was used to looking out for Sophia after hearing his Aunt Lucyâs endless nagging.
Audrey was stumped. She had not expected this response from him. She hesitated slightly before continuing, âAre you helping Sophia because you like her? Mind you, weâre in the Harris familyâs territory now, what do you think would happen if Mr. Harris finds out that Sophia has another suitor?â
Knowing how overbearing Mr. Harris was, there was no way he would tolerate having a potential rival!
âMs. Sommer, do you know what a friend is? Isnât it normal to look out for my friend when I see her being bothered by someone else?â Victor replied righteously.
He had never had any inappropriate feelings toward Ms. White, nor would he develop feelings for someone who was already taken. All along, he had merely looked after Ms. White because of his auntâs instructions.
Sure enough, Audrey did not have many friends. Everyone was tied together by mutual benefits, and if interests were not in play, there was not much to talk about. Who would possibly voluntarily offend someone else if there were no personal gains involved?
She bit her lip as her expression darkened. She did not know what to say.
âOne more thing, Ms. Sommer. News of Jones Groupâs capital chain issue has been quite a trending topic online. With such a long history between both families, someone thoughtfully made a thread. Many netizens left their comments and opinions, and I think you should have a look and see what they think.â
âWhat do netizensâ comments have anything to do with me?â
Audrey had seen the news online and she saw how harshly the netizens criticized Leah, but Leah should not represent the entire Jones family.
Moreover, she had not officially married into the family, and she was still ultimately uncertain whether the day would come! The public opinion and the discussion online were nothing to do with her at all!
Victor chuckled as he said, âItâs true that youâre officially married but your engagement with Mr. Jones was officially announced to the public so everyone knows about it. In the eyes of the public, youâre already a part of the Jones family.â
âIf you still insist on pestering Ms. White and badger her to help the Jones family, if things blow up, the best-case scenario would be that youâll be the only one involved in this, but the worst-case scenario would be that you drag the Sommer family into the mud as well.â
Although Victor was straying further away, Audrey knew well that what he said made sense.
Atrophy of Love: Mr. Harris, Stop Fooling Around!
ï¤Chapter 409 Would You Have Fallen For Me?
The netizens were sympathetic toward Sophia right now, so if news of her asking Sophia to help the Jones family got out, perhaps those brainless netizens might point their fingers at her and even drag the entire Sommer family down as well.
If these idiotic opinions end up affecting the Sommer familyâs business stocks, her family would certainly not forgive her!
