Charles instantly relaxed upon hearing this.
It seems that Sophia was taken away by a passer-by and she was not in danger. A small smile tugged on his lips, but he quickly wiped it away.
Mr. Zellner immediately regretted using the walkie-talkie to talk about such an important matter. He had thought that his plan was foolproof, but little did he expect such a big problem to pop up all of a sudden.
He quickly glanced at Charles who was seemingly in deep thought and frowned. However, he did not have a better solution, and so he gritted his teeth and asked, âHow long is this âright awayâ going to take?!â
Before the person could answer, Charles spoke first, âSo according to my understanding, Mr. Zellner, you have no idea where Sophia is either, do you?â
Mr. Zellnerâs grip around the walkie-talkie tightened so much that his knuckles turned white. âSo what if I donât, does it matter?â
âWell, if you donât, Iâm afraid that this deal has been called off.â Charles stared straight into Mr. Zellnerâs eyes, completely unfazed.
He had analyzed the situation very clearly to Mr. Zellner just moments ago and he believed that Mr. Zellner would not act rashly toward him now that he understood the possible scenarios.
Mr. Zellnerâs expression darkened. He had no choice. He knew that if he killed Charles right then and there, Commander Zoe would have enough valid reason to lock him up.
If he was sent into prison, the chances of coming out were near zero!
However, if he let Charles go just like this, he was not off the hook either if the accounting records fall into the hands of Commander Zoe or anyone from the Department of Justice!
Seeing that Charles was about to leave, Mr. Zellner could not think too much anymore. âWait!â
Charles stopped and turned around to look at him coldly.
âYour grandmother and step-grandfather are here, donât you want to see them?â Mr. Zellner had no clue how important Sylvia and Jax were to Charles, but no matter what differences they had, they were of the same blood. There was no way Charles would just sit around and do nothing!
Mr. Zellner clapped his hands and motioned to his subordinates to bring Sylvia and Jax over.
Tied up in ropes, the two of them looked like a sorry mess with the blue and purple bruises all over their face.
âI never lied to you from the start, killing Sophia had never been my intention, it was all your grandmother and Leahâs plan. I just wanted to sneak away some of Harris Corporationâs funds when you were down in the dumps after breaking up with Sophia.
âI never thought of killing Sophia because Iâm aware of your capability, and I knew how relentless you would be so you would certainly find out about it in the end.â
Since threats and tempts were not working, Mr. Zellner switched tactics. âMr. Harris, in all fairness, we donât owe each other anything. What about this, give me the accounting records and Iâll let you, your grandmother, and Mr. Cabot walk free? Weâll be done with each other from now on and we wonât owe each other any favors.â
Slumped on the ground, Sylvia looked up at Charles hopefully.
She had something stuffed in her mouth so she could only let out a measly whimper, but she seemed quite on edge.
Charles merely cast them a cold look and said nothing.
âIf Commander Zoe asks why you handed the records to me, you can just tell him that I threatened you and it will all be fine.â Mr. Zellner was getting antsy seeing that Charles was unmoved.
Charles looked away and said lightly, âYou can do whatever you want with them.â
With that, he turned to leave.
âMr. Harris, are you sure? This woman is your paternal grandmother!â Mr. Zellner frowned and shouted exasperatedly.
Charles did not even respond this time as he continued walking.
Bang!
A muffled gunshot rang in the air.
This time, Charles stopped in his tracks, but he did not turn around either.
Seeing this, Mr. Zellner let out a breath of relief. It seems like these two were still worth something to Charles. âThat shot hit Mr. Cabotâs leg. If you donât agree with my conditions, I have no choice but to kill him now, and then your grandmother.â
These two knew too much and they would eventually become a liability to him.
The only use they had left was to threaten Charles.
However, just as he thought Charles would relent, the man merely continued making his way to the door without even looking back.
âD*mn it!â Mr. Zellner cursed out and aimed the gun at Sylviaâs chest before pulling the trigger, but he swerved his hand just as the bullet came out and so it merely hit her left arm.
Then, another shot came right after aimed right between Jaxâs eyebrows.
Jax widened his eyes and gasped as the bullet hit him, and died on the spot.
He could leave the country right away after killing Charles!
Determination flashed in his eyes and he gently pressed the trigger.
At the same timeââ
âThe car that took Sophia away is back! They took a detour because they were trying to shake the police off their trail! Mr. Zellner, should I have them bring Sophia up now?â
The manâs excited voice sounded from the walkie-talkie.
Mr. Zellnerâs eyes widened as he quickly moved his hand away. The bullet shot out of the gun and left a hole in the door.
He would have a better option as long as he had Sophia as a bargaining chip!
Before he said anything, Charles turned around and walked back to him.
âHave someone bring her up immediately.â Mr. Zellner flung the gun on the table, his tone much lighter this time.
He sat back on the sofa and took a sip of water from his glass. âMy oh my, what a change of events! What do you say, Mr. Harris?â
Charles stood across from him and said nothing.
Mr. Zellnerâs spirits were immediately lifted, looking at the sullen expression on Charlesâ face. âOops, my bad! It slipped my mind that this gives me a way out and puts you at a dead end!â
Charles continued ignoring him. He sat back down on the sofa opposite Mr. Zellner as he drummed his fingers on his thigh.
That was a habit whenever he was annoyed.
Charles gave him a small smirk. âLetâs just go with our previous agreement.â He was not in the mood to chit chat with Mr. Zellner.
As long as he could leave together with Sophia safely, he did not care about anything else.
âI think we need to change something,â Mr. Zellner said.
Charles frowned slightly.
âDonât take it the wrong way,â Mr. Zellner said, âAs long as you give me the accounting records, you can still leave with Ms. White and your grandmother.â
He knew that she would be indebted to him if he spared her life this time.
Charlesâ only weakness was Sophia, but Sylvia had too many. As long as he could control her, he could use her to keep an eye on Charles and Harris Corporation.

âItâs fine, you can keep her.â Charles did not even glance at Sylvia.
Sitting beside Jaxâs dead body on the floor, Sylvia kept whimpering as she broke down into tears, but the two men did not seem to hear her at all.
Mr. Zellner beckoned two of his subordinates over and had them take away Sylvia, who was kicking around and letting out muffled screams like a complete madwoman, as well as Jaxâs dead body.
Then, someone came over and quickly cleaned up the bloodstains on the floor, and it was just as if nothing had happened here.
