The moment Victor realized that he had developed feelings for Sophia was at a banquet dinner. A strange feeling rose to his chest when his finger touched Sophia's, and his heartbeat quickened. Unlike before, he dared not look into her eyes now.
He merely shrugged it off, but it was not until the next few times that he saw Sophia and his heartbeat sped up again and he realized that he would consciously pay attention to her when he realized that somehow along the way, he had developed feelings for Sophia.
However, it was too late now. He had heard everything that happened between Sophia and Charles through Sophia herself, his friends, and his aunt.
He had never expected that the person who seemingly treated Sophia the worst turned out to be the one person who treated her best.
The most important thing to a man was his career, and it was no secret that everyone treasured their lives the most. However, Charles was willing to risk both his career and life just for Sophia.
If Victor asked himself, he would not even guarantee that he could do the same.
Besides, it was obvious that Sophia only had eyes for Charles, and he would never allow himself to try to intervene. His moral grounds would not let him.
He started distancing himself from Sophia, and he forced himself not to care about anything to do with her. It was his measly attempt in suppressing his budding feelings. However, the feelings were instinctual. Whenever she appeared in his sight, his gaze would naturally fall on her.
This was when Victor realized that it was time for him to leave.
If he stayed here, he would only fall deeper in love. She was like the nicotine that he was slowly being dependent on, and if he allowed himself to fall into addiction, it would be even more difficult to quit later on.
He spent a few sleepless nights thinking about how to proceed with caution when something suddenly came up out of the blue and disrupted all his plans was trying to fake her death and she needed his help.
Most humans were visual creatures.
Sophia
He was an exception. Perhaps it was because he had been a doctor for a long time now, the human body was just another set of body parts to him. They all looked the same to him, and that was why he cared more about a person's values and personality.
Now that Sophia's face had been disfigured, maybe, just maybe there was a ninety percent chance that Charles might not be able to accept her anymore.
He, on the other hand, did not mind it at all. If they broke up, he was willing to wait for her to grieve their relationship and give her time to heal before he tried to make a
move.
Victor stopped thinking about leaving. Aside from treating his daily patients, he spent the rest of his time keeping Sophia company. After spending time with her, he could tell that she was worried about her disfigurement as well.
He wanted to comfort her but he had no idea how to begin, and so he finally decided to lay the truth on her: not only was her face disfigured, there was also a possibility of her body going out of shape once she started on hormone drug treatments.
However, everything that happened after shocked him.
The reason why Sophia faked her death was actually related to the director of the Department of Homeland Security, as well as many high-ranked officials. Moreover, the people involved in the human experiment case were a couple of the country's richest and most powerful figures.
There was also the fact that Charles had already found out that Sophia
was still alive, and he did not mind her appearance... It made sense se too, how would a man who was

Then began the sleepless nights again, all because of this one-sided budding romance that was doomed from the very beginning.
He knew he could not control his feelings, but he could not just sit around and let himself fall deeper and deeper. He did not want to end up like the Jones siblings and waste himself on a romance story that meant nothing.
He believed that there were plenty of other fish in the sea. Aside from Sophia, he would meet someone in the future.
Besides, love was not all that it was in life.
After contemplating for three whole days, Victor made up his mind to move to
Europe.
There was space for him to develop his career, and most importantly, the move
would certainly help him move on.
He went to see Sophia to tell her that he was leaving. Although she seemed upset, it was only because she had always seen him as a close friend.
He could not decide whether he had succeeded or failed, and just as he was disappointed, he had already seen it coming at the same time. At least she never noticed his feelings about her, so... That was good, at least they could remain friends.
Sophia offered to send him off at the airport, but he immediately turned down the offer. He was worried that he could not bear to leave if he saw her waving goodbye
to him.
When his parents and aunt sent him off at the airport, they babbled a lot and nagged him for a very long time, but none of those words went into his head.
As the plane took off, he shaded his eyes with his hand and looked at the sun
outside the window.
It was dazzling and bright, just like his future.
Sophia, I wish you nothing but happiness.
I wish I could find the girl I am looking for, the sooner the better.
